Chapter 361 Scapegoat

At Emberwick Base, Christian's disappearance raised alarms for Megan and Byron.

They immediately sent people to contact Christian and dispatched personnel to search near the HY Materials Factory in the Eternal River District.

After a day of investigation, they reported the findings to Megan and Byron. "We found extensive damage at the HY Materials Factory, and almost all the materials inside have been taken. Additionally, there was no sign of Captain Christian or anyone else. They vanished along with their vehicles."

This information was quite alarming for Megan and Byron.

"Completely vanished?" A cold, murderous intent flashed in Megan's eyes.

"No matter how reckless Christian is, he wouldn't dare disobey my orders and cut off contact with the base to go elsewhere. So, it's certain that something happened to him!" Megan was furious.

Christian was her cousin. Although their relationship was average, Christian's missing was a direct challenge to her.

In this era of survival of the fittest, any sign of leniency or weakness would be devoured by other predators. So she had to resolve this issue.

Megan turned to Byron and asked, "Is there any way to track their location? There should be a locator on their satellite phone in the car."

Byron said, "That's the most puzzling part. We can't find any signal; it's as if they vanished into thin air."

"What?" A hint of hesitation appeared in Megan's eyes. "So, the other party came prepared. They must have planned to attack our Emberwick Base for a long time!"

'Is Christian's disappearance just a signal for war?' Megan thought frantically, suspecting every possible opponent.

Of course, she didn't know about Steven's existence yet, so she couldn't imagine such a powerful force.

'Silverlake Base, Frostwood Base, or Snowfall Cult? Who did it? All three have the capability. Or maybe West Mountain Base wasn't completely destroyed and just relocated?' Megan pondered.

The lack of intelligence made it difficult for her to make an accurate judgment.

The more one thought, the more complicated things seemed, as there were too many possibilities.

Byron said to her, "In the current situation, with Christian missing, we have no good way to track his movements, so we can't determine who the enemy is!"

Megan sat in her chair, crossed her long, slender legs, and fell into deep thought.

"Frostwood Base is to the northwest. Even if they wanted to occupy West Mountain Base, they could only approach from the northwest. It's impossible for them to travel a long distance to find Christian in the southeast corner. Silverlake Base is the closest to Christian. Could it be them?" Megan murmured. "Snowfall Cult has always shown reluctance to confront our bases. But their cult leader looks like a bad person, definitely harboring ill intentions. It's very likely them too."

Byron walked over, bowed, and said, "I think the incident site is closest to Silverlake Base. Why don't we contact them first and see what they say?"

Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base had always had a relatively good relationship. After all, their ships need fuel from Emberwick Base to go to sea.

Conversely, Silverlake Base provided various seafood as food for Emberwick Base.

However, Silverlake Base relied more on Emberwick Base.

Megan thought for a moment and said lightly, "Don't think our relationship with Silverlake Base is very good; it's just mutual exploitation. Those guys also want our refinery."

Byron laughed, "But for now, they still don't dare to have a conflict with us."

Megan nodded. "Then contact them."

Megan took out her satellite phone and called Leonard, the leader of Silverlake Base.

Leonard answered the call.

Megan, being straightforward, exchanged a few pleasantries and got straight to the point. "Leonard, my cousin Christian disappeared at the Horizon Group factory in the Eternal River District. Do you know anything about this?"

Leonard immediately understood that Megan was suspecting him. His tone turned serious, "You guys are quick! But I can tell you, this has nothing to do with Silverlake Base! Moreover, we also have people missing!"

His men, including Austin Griffin, who were sent to scout West Mountain Base, were killed by Steven.

Because of this, Leonard was also guessing who did it.

Megan was a bit surprised. "Your people are missing too? Where?"

"West Mountain Base. The people I sent to scout are missing! One of them was a pretty strong Psychic," Leonard said coldly. "Psychics are so rare in Starlight City. Even if there are some wandering around, they can't compete with my well-trained warriors. So I also want to ask you guys, was it you?"

There were differences among Psychics too. Psychics from large organizations had abundant resources and equipment.

In contrast, ordinary people who mutate found it hard to get stronger, and even surviving was difficult.

For example, Chase's abilities were limited by survival conditions, giving him little room to perform.

Megan understood Leonard's point; he was also suspecting some force, including Emberwick Base.

"So, we both have losses," Megan said; her eyes became much clearer. "There aren't many forces in Starlight City capable of attacking both of us simultaneously. The blacksmiths at Frostwood Base don't like to fight and have no reason to start a war with us. So, it must be Snowfall Cult!"

Leonard laughed, "Yes, you're right! It must be Snowfall Cult!"

Currently, Snowfall Cult was indeed the prime suspect.

But why did Leonard laugh? Because he and Megan had the same thought.

They had long been displeased with Snowfall Cult, which had been absorbing survivors from all over Starlight City.

Starlight City had about a million survivors, though the exact number was unknown.

As the Snowfall Cult absorbed more people, it affected their ability to get labor and even caused their slaves to escape.

The accumulated displeasure had been there for a long time, and now that they had a legitimate reason, they wouldn't miss the chance!

Since Snowfall Cult was the prime suspect, attacking them would be justified.

Even if it wasn't them, they could use this opportunity to vent their anger.
