Chapter 322 One-on-One

Charles and the crew couldn't believe what they were hearing from Steven. He had to be out of his mind!

They'd checked his file—just some ex-warehouse manager, nothing to write home about.

But Charles? He was the real deal. A Special Forces legend, now a top-tier Psychic. Hell, he could wipe the floor with every other Psychic in the unit without breaking a sweat.

Clay said to Charles, "Captain Reed, Steven must have a plot. Don't agree to it! Let's just fight them directly!"

They knew that Steven's proposal for a one-on-one fight with Charles must have some hidden agenda.

After all, they had already suffered too many losses at his hands.

However, Charles had his own thoughts.

He wasn't sure how tough Steven's crew really was, but he knew Lily's combat power was terrifying. Even in the Special Forces, only he had the power to take her down.

Henry, who could enlarge himself, was probably weaker than Shane, but not by much.

Earl, who looked harmless, could control ice and snow.

Charles had just seen Earl's performance underground, but the underground wasn't Earl's home turf; the icy world outside was.

Charles couldn't even begin to guess Earl's full potential, let alone the mutant cat lurking in the shadows. That thing was a complete wildcard!

Charles was totally out of his league when it came to Steven's intel game.

If it came to a chaotic battle, Charles was confident he could win, but he feared it would be a pyrrhic victory.

If his comrades died in battle, he would never forgive himself.

"One-on-one, fine! I'll fight you one-on-one!" After some thought, Charles accepted Steven's suggestion.

Clay and the others reminded him, "Captain Reed, be careful of tricks!"

Charles sneered. "In the face of absolute strength, all schemes are meaningless. If he hasn't prepared in advance, wouldn't this be a one-sided slaughter?"

Charles might not know the full scope of everyone's abilities, but he was pretty damn sure he had Steven pegged—most of the way, anyway.

All Steven could do was soak up hits and throw them back. Big deal.

So, as long as Charles launched a quick attack in a direction where Steven hadn't opened a Dimension Door, he was sure to win!

The two agreed to a one-on-one duel in a nearby valley.

No one else was allowed to intervene until one of them was dead.

Steven and Charles walked into the valley from different directions.

Outside the valley, both sides continued to face off.

They locked eyes, icy and unyielding, neither willing to step into the valley nor letting the other side make a move.

Still, Clay and his crew seemed way more confident. They knew Charles's power better than anyone. There was no doubt in their minds—in a straight-up fight, Charles wasn't losing to anyone.

On the flip side, Earl and his gang looked a little on edge.

Steven had said that he wouldn't choose a one-on-one plan unless absolutely necessary.

And they had no idea if Steven could defeat Charles.

After all, even they didn't fully understand Steven's abilities.

Clay glanced at Earl and his crew, who were trying way too hard to act cool, and a smirk crept across her lips.

She suddenly said, "By the way, since our leaders are already dueling, let me tell you a little secret. Did you know that some Psychics have the ability to devour others' powers?"

Earl and the others were shocked; they had never heard of such a thing.

After all, they had experienced very few Supernatural ability battles.

But Fluffy, sitting on Henry's shoulder, opened its eyes and stared at Clay.

Clay smoothed her wind-blown hair and continued, "It seems you don't know! Here's a free tip: Only the strongest Psychics can absorb the powers of weaker ones and boost their own. Our cap? He's taken out three enemy Psychics on missions and claimed their abilities. That's why he's on a whole other level!"

Clay cruelly smiled, "Steven's done for! He's just too arrogant!"

Henry and the others couldn't help but look tense.

Even Lily was secretly worried, but at this point, they had no other choice.

"No way, Captain Rogers won't lose!" Earl gritted his teeth and suddenly retorted.

Clay and the others looked at Earl, asking, "Why do you say that?"

Earl mustered his courage and said seriously, "Because Captain Rogers is very afraid of death! He would never risk his life!"

"What kind of reason is that? Just watch, Captain Reed will come out with your captain's head soon!" Clay sneered.

Everyone fell silent, waiting for the duel's outcome. Though the fight hadn't even begun, everyone was on edge, weapons at the ready.

Steven and Charles had declared it a one-on-one, but everyone knew the stakes—these two were the heavy hitters of their teams. If one came out on top and rejoined the standoff, the power balance would shift drastically.

Would they really let the others go as promised?

That was an unknown.

But for Steven, it was crystal clear—he had no intention of playing fair.

As long as he killed Charles and had strength left, he would undoubtedly break the agreement and attack Clay and Shane.

But now was not the time to think about that; he had to deal with the immediate crisis.

In the valley, the two walked on the hardened snow, the surface ice reaching their knees.

It was a slog, no doubt about it, but since both sides were dealing with the same mess, it kinda evened out.

They were dozens of feet apart.

Steven looked at the murderous Charles in the distance and sighed. "Can we not fight? I'm not a combat type. My Supernatural ability is more supportive."

Charles coldly said, "No. You must die here today!"

Steven said helplessly, "I didn't want it to come to this; you forced me. I once had a dream, in the apocalypse..."

Charles, feeling irritated, interrupted loudly, "Can you stop babbling? Stalling won't change your fate!"

Seeing his plan exposed, Steven clenched his fists in frustration. "Hope you keep your promise. If I die, spare my friends. They are innocent."

Charles took a deep breath and nodded. "I promise I won't harm them."

Steven said, "And my cat—just let it go. My friends will take care of it."

Charles's veins bulged. "Are you a woman? So nagging. Alright, let's fight!"

Charles didn't want to hear Steven's babbling anymore. He stomped the ground, snow flying, and charged at Steven like an arrow.

"Quadruple speed!" Steven unhesitatingly boosted his speed to the maximum!
