Chapter 413 Betrayal
Lily returned inside the fortifications, and Steven breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her figure.
The group fought while retreating, and with the cover of Steven's sniper rifle and Dimension Door, they successfully withdrew to the entrance of the shelter.
Steven told them to enter the shelter, but his gaze was fixed on the Snowfall Cult members who were still watching from a distance.
"Still watching?"
Steven decided to give them a little punishment, to let them know that being a spectator wasn't so enjoyable.
"Cindy, aim all the remaining weapons at the Snowfall Cult and fire a volley!"
The fortifications in the direction of the Snowfall Cult weren't severely damaged.
Firstly, the Snowfall Cult was mostly feigning an attack, and secondly, Steven hadn't really gone all out on them initially.
But now that they were still watching, Steven wouldn't be so polite!
He wouldn't allow anyone to profit.
Cindy replied, "Understood!"
Her fingers danced swiftly over the keyboard, and soon, the weapons aimed at the Snowfall Cult were activated.
Neil had planned to continue waiting for the right moment, to help whoever won.
But the sudden gunfire and artillery attack caused heavy casualties among the ill-equipped Snowfall Cult members.
"Steven, what the..." Neil quickly retreated to the back of the group, angered by Steven's attack on them.
But he also understood that Steven was angry at their inaction!
By now, Steven's crew had ducked into the shelter, while soldiers from Silverlake and Emberwick Bases were closing in, swarming the area in front of the shelter.
Neil took a sharp breath. "Alright, it's time!"
Steven losing wouldn't benefit them at all.
The major base organizations were their most hated enemies!
He immediately ordered a group of Snowfall Cult members to charge out and head towards the shelter.
By now, the shelter was completely surrounded.
Someone threw smoke grenades around the shelter, greatly interfering with Steven's sniping.
Steven didn't activate the infrared function to prevent the enemy from using grenades or other explosives to harm his eyes.
Lily and the others looked at the dense crowd of soldiers outside, feeling very tense.
"Steven, what do we do now? Should we abandon the two surface levels and hide underground?" Henry asked for Steven's opinion.
"What's the rush? The shelter's defenses aren't that easy to break."
Just as Steven finished speaking, he suddenly heard a noise.
Through the smoke, he vaguely saw the crowd parting as a huge engineering vehicle slowly approached.
Steven frowned, sensing something was wrong.
He then opened The Extradimensional Space and took out boxes of grenades and explosives.
With Dimension Door covering the window, Steven began throwing grenades and explosives out of the window.
Violent explosions and flames erupted among the attackers!
Seven or eight people were instantly blown away, with blood and limbs flying everywhere.
And the grenades and explosives kept coming out of the window without stopping.
Having emptied the West Mountain Base's warehouse, Steven was never short of weapons and ammunition.
"You really think breaking the first layer of fortifications means you've won? How foolish!" Steven scoffed as he chucked out a massive bundle of explosives. "This shelter's my ace in the hole!"
The continuous explosions quickly killed over a hundred people!
The remaining soldiers were panicked and tried to hide.
But facing Steven's abilities, they had no way to fight back.
Some tried, but the ammunition that went into the Dimension Door ended up falling on their own people!
The shockwaves from the explosions dispersed the smoke, and Steven finally saw clearly that the person driving the engineering vehicle looked familiar.
After thinking for a moment, he recalled that this person was Alexander from IronShield Security Company!
"Didn't expect them to find him. No wonder these forces are so confident in attacking my shelter!" Steven's tone was somewhat hostile as he immediately grabbed a grenade and threw it in that direction.
But the engineering vehicle was the key to this operation and was naturally well-protected.
Seeing Steven's grenade flying over, a figure suddenly flashed in mid-air, catching the grenade and tossing it aside.
It was Oliver, the deputy of Silverlake Base, whose ability was [Rubber Man].
As long as the kinetic energy didn't exceed a certain threshold, he could catch almost any physical attack.
Meanwhile, Alexander took the opportunity to drive the engineering vehicle to the side of the shelter.
A long mechanical arm extended from the vehicle, aimed at a specific spot on the wall, and began cutting with a thin blue flame!
Megan calmly ordered, "Spread out and attack from the sides! Obscure his vision!"
Thick fog rose around, covering the surroundings of the shelter.
They couldn't counter Steven's sniping, but they could limit it.
Sure enough, this caused Steven a lot of trouble.
At that moment, Steven suddenly heard Aurora's alarm.
"Warning, warning! The shelter wall is undergoing continuous high-temperature cutting, damage level 0.001%!"
"Continuous cutting?" Steven immediately realized what was happening.
Alexander was using the engineering vehicle to damage his shelter.
This shelter was built by the company Alexander used to work for, so he knew exactly where to cut to make it easier!
"How long until it's breached?" Steven asked calmly.
Aurora replied, "At the current rate, it will take 1 hour and 29 minutes to completely breach."
Steven felt much more at ease.
Just breaching would take that long; opening a hole big enough for people to enter would probably take a whole day.
That day would be enough time for him to kill many people!
He had said that if these people really fought him to the death, it would be a fight to the finish!
Even if the shelter was breached, they could still move underground.
But these forces would suffer heavy casualties!
Steven decided to ignore the engineering vehicle.
He used his sniper rifle and grenades to kill as many enemies as possible.
However, the smoke grenades affected his sniping efficiency significantly.
But as long as he hit one, the target was sure to die!
Henry and the others on the first floor couldn't see what was happening outside, but they could hear the cutting sound from the wall, which made them worried.
"Captain, should we retreat?" Earl asked anxiously.
"No rush, wait a bit longer!" Steven said steadily.
Less than 20 minutes into the battle, they were already surrounded. From the looks of it, they were at a disadvantage, only able to take hits passively.
But facing the strongest forces of Starlight City, killing hundreds without any casualties was hardly a loss for Steven and his team.
However, with Alexander's appearance, continuing the fight would mean the shelter couldn't hold.
Steven was waiting.
The Snowfall Cult had been slacking off.
Since different forces were responsible for attacking from different directions, Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base hadn't noticed that yet.
Now, both bases had suffered heavy casualties.
Would the Snowfall Cult give up such a good opportunity?
Of course not!
Megan and Leonard were commanding from the rear. Seeing the shelter so close, they felt the situation was under control.
They both felt a sense of relief.
At first, no one expected this small shelter to be so difficult to attack!
They had lost a lot of soldiers just to control the shelter.
But fortunately, ordinary soldiers could be replaced after they died.
As long as they could get the large amount of supplies Steven had, this battle wouldn't be a loss!
Moreover, they could later divide the resources of West Mountain District and Eternal River District.
At this moment, members of the Snowfall Cult started slipping into the crowd.
Nobody batted an eye—things seemed normal.
Sure, the big players and the Snowfall Cult usually didn't get along, but this time, they were working togerther.
Once over a hundred of them had spread out, they were all grinning ear to ear.
Some even walked up, slung an arm around soldiers from the two bases, cracking jokes and laughing like old buddies—right before yanking the explosives strapped to their bodies.
