Chapter 246 West Mountain Base
Steven and Fluffy walked into the house and saw the living room lights were still on.
Turns out, Elinor and the others had been woken up by Fluffy's meowing. When they noticed Steven was missing, they decided to wait for him in the living room.
After all, Steven was the one running the shelter.
Seeing them all there, Steven said, "Glad you're up. I need your help with something."
The women, curious, asked, "What do you need us to do?"
Steven quickly filled them in on what had happened that night.
When they heard someone could walk through the shelter's solid walls, they all looked pretty worried.
Luckily, Steven assured them he had already taken care of the intruder.
Elinor, hugging her chest and frowning, said, "If two Psychics showed up at the same time, they might be part of a group. You could've stirred up their organization by dealing with those two."
Steven replied, "Don't stress about it. This shelter is tough; it can handle artillery fire from wartime. And with all this snow, big weapons are out of the question."
"I took out the wall-passing Psychic to make sure the shelter stays secure," he added.
The women finally relaxed a bit.
They didn't have any combat skills and relied on Steven for their safe and happy lives.
No one wanted that disrupted.
So, in times of crisis, their dependence on Steven grew even stronger.
"Alright, I need to give you all some tasks," Steven said. "We might be up against a powerful force, and we don't know how strong they are. We need to be ready for anything."
Steven first turned to Aubrey, the mechanical genius. "Aubrey, I need you to make a bunch of explosive bombs and place them around the house. Let me know what materials you need, and I'll get them."
Being a local of Starlight City, Steven knew where to find large chemical plants and labs. Getting materials wouldn't be an issue.
Aubrey nodded confidently. "Don't worry, I'll handle the weapons!"
Then, Steven took out the bodies of Brittany and Zane.
He removed all their electronic devices, like phones and other communication tools, and handed them to Cindy.
"Cindy, I need you to dig up any info you can on these two. The more, the better. I want to know about their organization," he said.
Cindy replied calmly, "Got it."
Steven then looked at Elinor. "Elinor, take these two bodies and do a biopsy. It's rare to find two Psychic bodies. See if you can uncover any secrets about Psychics from them."
Elinor nodded. "Okay, Steven!"
After assigning tasks, only Nora was left without one.
She stepped forward, looking eager, and asked, "Steven, what about me? I want to help too."
Everyone else had a special skill, but she didn't. Nora's pride wouldn't let her sit this one out.
Steven said, "You can help Elinor! And take care of the housework."
Nora glanced at the two cold bodies on the ground and felt a bit scared at the thought of handling them.
But to prove her worth, she reluctantly agreed.
After assigning the tasks, Steven felt exhausted and headed to his room to sleep.
The next morning, around nine, Steven woke up and instinctively checked his phone's smart system for any anomalies around the shelter.
Seeing everything was normal, he felt relieved.
He had taken out Brittany and Zane, which would definitely alert their organization. But if they were well-organized, they wouldn't attack without a plan.
This gave Steven some time to get ready.
He got dressed and headed downstairs.
In the living room, he found Elinor and Cindy waiting for him.
Both of them looked tired but couldn't hide the excitement in their eyes.
As soon as they saw Steven, they quickly reported their findings.
"Steven, I found some important info!" Cindy exclaimed.
"Steven, I've studied the biopsies of those two bodies, and they are indeed unusual!" Elinor added.
Steven walked over to Cindy, who was holding a laptop, and asked what she had found.
Cindy turned the screen towards him. "By analyzing the devices on these two, I found out they're from an organization called West Mountain Base. It's a huge place with thousands of survivors."
Cindy continued, "The West Mountain organization has a strict hierarchy and hundreds of armed personnel! And they have a powerful team called Tiger Special Forces, which seems to consist of special forces and Psychics!"
Steven sat next to Cindy, looking at the information she had gathered, feeling wave after wave of shock.
Things were pretty much as he had imagined.
West Mountain Base was likely one of the large shelters built by the government in Starlight City.
It not only had ample supplies but also a strong armed force.
Such shelters were meant to protect important government figures in emergencies.
It was no surprise that it had evolved into a powerful force.
What reassured Steven a bit was that, according to the information, West Mountain Base had only about five hundred armed personnel.
Starlight City didn't have a large military presence, only a brigade-level unit.
Even counting the police and security personnel, they had at most a few thousand people.
And not all of them were concentrated in the West Mountain organization, indicating other strong forces outside.
But those matters were irrelevant to Steven now.
At least he knew the strength of the West Mountain organization, so he wasn't as scared.
He said, "Ordinary soldiers, even well-trained and armed, can't pose much of a threat to the shelter. As for the so-called Tiger Special Forces, as long as there's no second wall-passing person, they can't harm my shelter."
"Most Psychics aren't necessarily stronger than fully armed soldiers," he added.
Psychics had weaknesses and weren't invincible.
Except for Steven, who had the super-strong, no-cost skill Dimension Door, others needed a lot of energy to use their abilities and couldn't use them indefinitely.
Take Earl, for example. A well-trained special forces soldier could silently slit his throat.
"In that case, our chances of winning are high!" Steven finally smiled with relief.
He had always imagined those unknown forces to be too powerful.
Information was indeed crucial!
Victory in war hinged on knowing yourself and your enemy.
This showed how important Cindy, the genius hacker, was to his team!
