Chapter 185 Waiting

After setting up the traps, the three of them returned to the room.

Nora and Elinor were both participating in such a dangerous activity for the first time.

Moreover, it was very likely that someone might die because of the traps they set.

A cocktail of adrenaline and terror surged through their veins. But beneath the fear, a thrilling current of excitement pulsed. After all, they had never experienced anything like this before.

Nora's eyes sparkled with a complex light, and she even seemed a bit eager to try. "Steven, when will the enemy come?"

Seeing the anticipation in Nora's eyes, Steven couldn't help but laugh. "I really hope there's never a day when we need to use these preparations, but you seem to be hoping someone will come and attack us."

"However, it shouldn't be anytime soon." After saying that, he pointed to his head. "Anyone with a bit of brains wouldn't easily attack others at a time like this. No one who has survived until now is weak."

Nora rested her chin on her hand and looked out the window. "So, that's how it is!"

She didn't know whether she hoped someone would come and step into her traps or if she wished to remain in a peaceful but boring safe environment.

Just as she was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a piercing sound.

Nora turned her head and saw Steven installing a bolt on the passageway with a welding machine. "What are you doing? Aren't these two heavy metal doors secure enough?"

Steven thought of the deceased Dawson.

He continued installing bolts on both sides of the passageway and said, "Most areas of this villa are automated. In other words, if someone can hack into our control center, they can easily open these two doors."

"Sometimes, technological advancements bring huge flaws. But the basic principles of physics don't lie!" he explained.

Steven installed three bolts on the passageway, all secured with 4-inch diameter construction steel bars!

This way, even if someone broke through to the passageway, it would be impossible to break all three steel bars in a short time.

"Better safe than sorry!" Steven took a deep breath and said seriously.

Seeing Steven being so cautious, Nora was somewhat speechless, while Elinor was already used to it.

Elinor looked at Steven with a smile, her eyes full of admiration.

Thinking it over, Nora also felt that Steven's actions made a lot of sense.

He was undeniably a cautious and death-fearing man, perhaps even a touch excessive, but in a world where death lurked around every corner, a man this meticulous about survival had a better chance of greeting tomorrow than most.

Looking at the arrangements inside and outside the shelter, Steven felt much more at ease.

The only thing that still worried him was network security.

"If only we had a network expert here," Steven couldn't help but mutter to himself.

When Nora heard Steven's words, a trace of sadness suddenly appeared on her face. "Cindy was quite good with networks. It's a pity..."

Steven looked over when he heard this. "What happened?"

Elinor suddenly thought of something and asked Nora, "Isn't Cindy studying in Starlight City? Do you know how she is now? Is she... still alive?" Elinor's voice weakened as she spoke.

How many people could survive under the blizzard?

If it weren't for meeting Steven back then, Elinor might have already become a frozen corpse, or, even worse, someone else's food.

Seeing Steven's inquiring look, Elinor explained to him.

It turned out that Nora had a cousin studying in Starlight City named Cindy Yoder.

It was mentioned before that the Yoder family was a true scholarly family, with everyone being a genius, except for Nora, who didn't do well in school and became an actress. Everyone else was elite in their respective fields.

For example, Elinor, at the age of 26, had already earned a PhD from a world-class medical school and was a chief physician at renowned hospitals.

And Cindy, who was 18 years old, was studying at the prestigious Innovation Academy in Starlight City.

She had been in poor health since childhood, suffering from polio, which left her legs paralyzed.

However, her mind was exceptionally brilliant, and she had a terrifying talent for computers.

It was said that she had won numerous international computer awards by the age of 16.

According to Elinor, she was also a top-notch hacker in secret!

She revealed. "Two years ago, the NexusPulse website of Star Country was hacked and the flag of the Astralium Kingdom was displayed. That operation was done by her!"

After hearing Elinor's account, Steven couldn't help but sigh.

The gap between people was even greater than the gap between humans and dogs!

"Where is she now? Can we find her?" Steven urgently needed a computer expert to maintain network security for him.

Nora closed her eyes in pain and slowly shook her head. "She has been out of contact for a long time! After the snowstorm hit, I tried to contact her, but there was no response."

"With her abilities, if she were still alive, she would have found a way to contact me. If she couldn't, it can only mean..." Nora's voice choked, and she turned her head away with tears in her eyes.

Elinor was also very sad. Although she didn't contact Cindy often, they were still cousins.

Steven thought for a moment and then said to Nora, "Maybe she just doesn't want to deal with you."

Nora had expected some comfort from Steven, but she didn't expect him to ask such a strange question.

"What?" She stomped her foot in anger. "What are you doing? Why would you say something like that?"

Steven said calmly, "Look, everyone in your family is a genius, and in their eyes, you're just a fool. If they were in danger, who would seek your help?"

"You... you're so mean!" Nora couldn't help but clench her small fists and lightly pounded Steven's chest.

'Comfortable. Keep going!' Steven thought.

The originally heavy atmosphere was thus eased.

Steven still felt a bit regretful and thought, 'If that girl named Cindy are still alive, having her join my team will be a good choice.'

After all, her legs were paralyzed, posing little threat to Steven.

Moreover, with Nora and Elinor being so beautiful, how could their sister look any different?

The excellent genes were evident!

"What a pity!" Steven sighed.

But since he couldn't get what he wanted, there was no point in dwelling on it.

After all, the shelter's network already had a strong firewall.

Unless they encountered an exceptionally skilled hacker, it wouldn't be easily breached.

"Next, we only have one thing to do—wait!" Steven squinted his eyes, his gaze deep.
