Chapter 214 Mutant Creatures
The girl's words sent shivers down everyone's spine.
Every time that monster showed up, it picked a few people to kill, never going on a full-blown rampage.
It was like it was raising chickens and ducks, just picking a few to eat whenever it felt like it!
"We're doomed!" the girl cried out in despair. "No one's coming to save us; this world is finished!"
Right then, the class president, Warren, clenched his teeth and said, "There will be, there has to be! We're the best of the best, destined for greatness. We can't die here!"
He looked up at the sky, now sealed off by thick ice and snow. "As long as we get out of here and contact the outside world, my dad will definitely send help!"
But getting out and onto the ice was a huge problem.
Lily was a powerhouse. As a special instructor at Innovation Academy, she used to be a top Taekwondo expert in the Astralium Kingdom and even served as a bodyguard for a high-ranking official's wife.
Now that she had awakened her supernatural ability, she was even stronger.
But no matter how strong she was, she couldn't take on that mutated monster while carrying a bunch of people!
Steven, Earl, and Henry followed the GPS and finally reached the old site of Innovation Academy after more than an hour.
When they arrived, everything was just a vast expanse of white.
Luckily, there was a small hill near Innovation Academy they could use to confirm their location.
The three got out of the car, and Steven held his gun, saying to the other two, "Stay sharp and watch out for danger."
Earl swallowed hard and took a step back.
Henry, on the other hand, stood firmly at the front.
Not just because he was the strongest, but as a soldier and the oldest, he felt it was his duty to protect Steven and Earl.
But looking at the endless snow, Henry was also at a loss.
"With everything covered in snow, how do we find the person you want to rescue?"
Steven pulled out his phone, trying to contact Cindy.
But he couldn't get through.
"My signal's terrible!" Steven said, frustrated. "Let's look around! The school's big; there must be some tall buildings sticking out."
He added, "The map shows the school's layout. Once we find a building, we can figure out where Cindy might be."
Earl looked worried. "This elite school is huge! I heard it even has a golf course."
Steven nodded. "The school covers 0.47 square miles. We can drive around slowly; no need to rush."
If it were not for the car, who knows how long it would take to find anything.
Henry suggested, "Let's split up to search; it'll be faster."
Steven shook his head. "No way. For safety, we stick together. Slow and steady wins the race!"
Henry smiled and agreed.
So the three got back in the car and started looking for tall buildings.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before they spotted some spire-like structures.
"There's a tower ahead! Let's check it out," Steven said.
He and Earl got out of the car and walked over to investigate.
Comparing it with the online blueprints, Steven confirmed this was the Innovation Academy's Astronomy Center.
"The Astronomy Center is in the southeast, near the front of the campus. The dorms and cafeteria are up north, pretty far apart!"
Steven looked at his phone, deep in thought.
Earl chimed in, "Think they might be hiding in classrooms or the gym? Places with more open space?"
"Yeah, to move around under the snow, they need a big space. Otherwise, the oxygen would run out, and there's always the risk of the snow collapsing," he added.
Steven frowned. "Hard to say. This campus is huge; we can only check the most likely spots."
"First, the dorms and cafeteria—they've got clothes, beds, and food. Then, the gym and academic buildings." Steven carefully analyzed where Cindy might be.
Meanwhile, Earl and Henry didn't just stand around. They climbed to the top of the observatory tower, looking for an entrance.
This was a piece of cake for Earl.
He used his supernatural ability to manipulate the ice and snow, spreading it around and quickly revealing a space about 16 feet deep.
The spire of the observatory gradually grew larger, exposing the windows below.
"Steven, we can get in here!" Earl said excitedly.
Steven replied coolly, "What's the point of going down there? We're not here to collect telescopes."
Earl thought he'd get a pat on the back, but Steven didn't seem to care, and his excitement deflated.
Steven looked up, changing his tone, "However, grabbing the professional astronomical equipment inside might come in handy later."
Professional-grade telescopes could be useful for reconnaissance.
Since they were already here, they might as well take the good stuff.
Earl's confidence surged, and he and Henry started figuring out how to jump in through the window and get some things out.
At that moment, Steven suddenly felt a prickling sensation on his back, making his hair stand on end!
It was the feeling of being watched by a predator!
Steven immediately turned around, assuming a combat stance, his guns aimed forward.
When he saw what was in front of him, his pupils couldn't help but contract.
In the vast snowy landscape, a giant black monster lay quietly on the snow, its eyes fixed on him.
Its body seemed ready to pounce at any moment.
With half of its body buried in the snow, Steven couldn't gauge its size.
But having visited a dinosaur museum, Steven knew that the monster's head was about the same size as a T-Rex's!
Its pitch-black body, covered in hair like steel needles, and its amber eyes stared at him with a strange, mocking look.
'Mutated creature!' The term immediately popped into Steven's mind.
If he wasn't mistaken, this was the source of the sound he heard during his call with Cindy!
Steven watched it warily, ready for its attack at any moment.
But to his surprise, the monster just stared at him without any intention of attacking.
Steven frowned slightly, sensing that things were not that simple.
Monsters would attack as soon as they found an opportunity.
Steven had his back to it just now, but it didn't attack.
Even now, facing each other, he felt something eerie from the monster but not the bloodthirsty intent to kill.
'What the hell is going on?' he thought.
