Chapter 516 Inside the Shelter

Natasha went quiet, her head down, lost in thought.

'These days, the leftover forces in Starlight City are no match for me! But I can't afford to challenge the Silvercrest District. That Otha is dangerous.'

That terrifying force that wiped out everything in its path, even Natasha was scared of it now.

But she also coveted it. That's why she handed Frostheart over to Otha.

Among the thirty-six different supernatural abilities she had absorbed, none of them even came close to a tenth of [Annihilation].

"If we don't go over there, they'll get suspicious, right?" Natasha said, keeping her cool.

Neil thought for a bit and nodded. "You're right, we should go."

"But just me, you stay here. Even if things go south, as long as you're safe, it's all good!"

He looked at Natasha's cold face, his eyes showing a warmth he couldn't hide.

It was a love he couldn't openly show but kept deep in his heart.

Natasha didn't turn down Neil's idea. Compared to her big ambitions, no one was irreplaceable.

Natasha walked over and hugged Neil gently. "You're the best."

A few minutes later, Neil left the church.

He gathered the remaining priests and pastors of the Snowfall Cult.

After a quick rundown of the situation, he started giving out orders.

"Dean, Avery, Cleo, Bianca... you guys come with me to Emberwick Base for backup."

"Hayden, Tony, Zack, you three stay here with the others."

Neil took almost all the combat power with him.

Because now, the Snowfall Cult had nothing left worth protecting.

And the person he cared about most didn't need anyone to guard her anymore.

The Snowfall Cult rounded up eight Psychics, leaving behind the regular soldiers, and drove the snowmobile Megan had given them towards Emberwick Base.

At Emberwick Base.

Otha and six others approached in a snowmobile.

Megan had already got everyone to hide in the shelter, while she stayed outside with some warriors, waiting for the investigation team.

From a distance, they saw the snowstorm raging on the snowfield, coming from the horizon, a scene they'd never seen before.

Even though they'd fought zombie hordes before, they'd never faced one this wild!

"Damn it, what did they stir up!" Megan's face showed fear.

With their remaining combat power, there was no way they could handle such a huge horde!

The black snowmobile rolled into Emberwick Base, and Megan immediately ran over with her people, shouting, "Quick, over here!"

The car headed in the direction Megan pointed.

It didn't stop, and the door was already open.

Otha, Theron, and Daron jumped out, weapons ready.

"Quick, get into the shelter, the horde behind is too massive!"

They didn't need to explain; Megan and the others had already seen it.

The horde was right behind, filling the space around the refinery.

Megan's heart sank; her refinery was completely trashed! Once the battle kicked off here, the whole refinery would be toast.

But now wasn't the time to dwell on that.

"Quick, we gotta hide now!"

Megan knew resisting was pointless; facing such a massive horde was a death wish!

Everyone fired off a few shots, taking down some of the leading zombies, then quickly fell back.

At the shelter entrance, a bunch of soldiers were guarding the door, yelling.

"Quick, get in!"

Eris drove the snowmobile into the shelter, and after Otha and the others cleared out some trailing zombies, they jumped inside fast.

Megan ordered the heavy door of the shelter to be shut.

It was a door made of seven layers of heavy alloy, and once it was closed, no horde could bust through.

Not long after everyone was inside, the horde completely took over the land.

Through the shelter's surveillance, they could see the zombies roaring and attacking the door like crazy. But the door stood still.

Everyone let out a sigh of relief.

Otha noticed Megan's sour expression.

Her carefully managed base was wrecked in an instant; no way she'd be happy about that.

Otha said to her, "I've already notified Steven, Sebastian, Leonard, and the Snowfall Cult folks. They'll be here to back us up soon."

"Then we can team up to handle the horde outside!"

Megan turned and walked to the control panel.

"But judging by the size of the horde out there, it's no less than what we faced at Snowfall Cult that day."

"And now, our combat power is less than half of what it was. How do we fight?"

"Can't you ask for backup from Silvercrest District?" Megan stared at Otha, her face serious.

Otha replied, "It's not that easy to get people from Silvercrest District. Almost all the investigation teams are tied up with tasks."

Actually, Otha's team was one of the top forces in Silvercrest District.

If they couldn't fix this, calling in other teams wouldn't help much. Unless they mobilized a large force to wipe out the horde.

But that would need orders from the highest level of Silvercrest District, which was a hassle.

"So, what do we do then?" Megan closed her eyes, sounding a bit defeated.

She wanted to blame Otha and his team, but then she found it unfair.

The zombie crisis was in Starlight City, with or without the team, they had be deal with it eventually. The team was actually helping them.

She was just... really bummed out.

Eris opened the computer and quickly accessed the satellite system to get a view outside the shelter.

"Here's what's going on outside."

Otha, Megan, and the others gathered around the computer to check out the scene.

From up high, the whole refinery was swarming with zombies, like a field overrun with locusts. Just a single look, and it could freak out anyone with trypophobia.

"Great, now we're all stuck in here!" Megan crossed her arms and sighed, feeling pretty hopeless.
