Chapter 311 Bait
There were just 31 hours left until the missile strike at midnight tomorrow.
Cindy had already tweaked the coordinates sent out by West Mountain Base, swapping them with the base's own coordinations.
So, unless something crazy happened, the missile would hit West Mountain Base for sure.
To deal with the tough shelter, Silvercrest District would definitely use a bunch of bunker busters.
According to Aubrey's calculations, those missiles couldn't destroy West Mountain Base, which was buried hundreds of feet underground, but they could cause some serious shaking, like an 8.0 earthquake.
Steven told Cindy, "When the time comes, you'll take control of West Mountain Base's network and cut off their power! Their main energy source is electricity. Once the power's out, the whole base will be temporarily paralyzed, causing major panic."
Cindy reminded Steven, "I can control the power outage through the network, but they have manual operations inside that can restore the power system."
Steven grinned. "Doesn't matter; you just need to cause short-term chaos. By then, Lily will lead her students to escape from The Fourth Life Warehouse."
As Steven said this, a sly smile crossed his face.
"With Lily leading, the whole Fourth Life Warehouse will be mobilized. Those who've been oppressed for so long will definitely try to take over West Mountain Base. The thousands of people inside will cause even more chaos. That's when we'll make our move!"
With just Steven and his team, it would be tough to take down the massive West Mountain Base.
But the thing was, the internal conflicts within West Mountain Base were already pretty intense.
Steven just needed to light the fuse, and they'd self-destruct.
Another key point—the residents of The Fourth Life Warehouse weren't just ordinary folks.
At the start of the apocalypse, the ones who took refuge in West Mountain Base were all big shots from Starlight City.
These people were ambitious and ruthless, not the type to be content with generating electricity by pedaling bikes.
So Steven figured these people would definitely seize the chance to rebel.
Aubrey, arms crossed, said worriedly, "But won't Ms. Evans and the others be in great danger? Usually, the ones who start the riots face the soldiers' suppression first."
Steven said indifferently, "If they want freedom, they have to be ready for sacrifices. They should understand that. Plus, with Lily protecting them, not too many people should die."
In reality, Steven didn't care at all about the lives of those students.
As long as Lily could help him trigger the chaos in West Mountain Base, he didn't care if the others lived or died.
"Then we'll take advantage of the chaos to break in, and then... what do we do next?" Earl scratched his head, feeling a bit lost about the mission's purpose. "We say we want to destroy West Mountain Base, but what does that even mean? Kill their leader Peter? That doesn't make much sense. If we kill one Peter, another will just take his place. Are we supposed to kill everyone in West Mountain Base?"
Earl laughed after saying this, thinking he had made a funny joke.
But Steven's smile was dead serious.
Earl's laughter stopped abruptly, and he looked at Steven in shock. "Captain Rogers, you don't really want to kill them all, do you?"
Not just Earl, but everyone else looked at Steven in surprise, thinking this plan was way too crazy and impossible to pull off.
Steven didn't hold back and said straight up, "At the very least, we need to wipe out more than 80% of their leadership, cutting down West Mountain Base's personnel by over 80%. Ideally, we kill them all."
He went on, "This is doable. I've got a ton of explosives, some we seized when they tried to destroy the shelter, and some are from my own stash. Do you get what happens if we set off that much explosive in a packed underground space?"
The others didn't really get the technical stuff, so they all looked at Aubrey and Cindy.
After thinking for a moment, Aubrey explained, "Steven has about 2200 pounds of explosives. If we set off that much, it'll definitely wreck the structure, destroy part of West Mountain Base, and kill a bunch of people nearby. But the real damage is way worse."
Aubrey continued, "First, it'll take out various life support systems in West Mountain Base, like the power supply, water circulation, air circulation, and even the escape routes. Any of these systems going down will make the underground space unlivable."
"Plus, the explosion will eat up a ton of oxygen, and most people not in the blast radius might suffocate from lack of air."
Aubrey's explanation made everyone realize just how terrifying Steven's plan was.
It was all interconnected, and even if one part didn't kill enough people, there were other deadly methods waiting for the folks at West Mountain Base.
Earl chimed in, "Captain Rogers, your plan is solid. But how do we get into West Mountain Base? If we just walk in, we might get lost and be easily recognized!"
Steven said, "Of course, I've thought about that. First, we need to memorize the layout of West Mountain Base. There's a 3D structure diagram on the computer; you need to study it carefully! This is life and death, and we can't mess up."
Steven continued, "As for getting in and planting the explosives, we just need to disguise ourselves."
As Steven spoke, he reached into the extradimensional space and pulled out two sets of white combat suits.
Earlier, he had used the extradimensional space to swallow a few special forces members.
These two combat suits were stripped from those special forces guys.
"We'll wear these suits, and with the chaos going on, it'll be easy to slip in." Steven pointed at the computer screen. "The explosives will be placed in The Second Life Warehouse. All the key life support systems of West Mountain Base are there. We don't need to be picky about the spot; just find a hidden place. With 2200 pounds of explosives, it'll do the job no matter where we put it."
When it came to facing the enemy's Psychic and a direct confrontation, Steven and his team had no need to worry.
Steven's Dimension Door was even more powerful in tight spaces.
It would form an impenetrable defense unless the opponent had some insane power to break through it—something no human had shown yet.
Steven's plan was super detailed, and even Earl, who was usually a bit of a scaredy-cat, let out a long sigh of relief after hearing it, thinking it was totally doable.
Next, Steven went over the battle plan again with everyone and handed out weapons.
Even though regular firearms didn't do much against Psychics, having them could still be useful, even if just to take out some regular soldiers.
Especially for Earl, whose Supernatural ability would be tough to use inside the base, he'd have to rely on guns to fight.
Everyone gathered in a room, checking their firearms and gear, talking about how to coordinate during the mission, and how to handle any surprises.
Earl was visibly nervous, with sweat starting to bead on his forehead.
Henry, on the other hand, looked much more composed and calm.
He had years of military experience, and he and Steven had been through multiple life-and-death battles in Sunshine Community, so he wasn't as tense.
But you could still see a trace of excitement and thrill in Henry's eyes, showing he wasn't entirely calm inside.
And Steven?
He was probably feeling the same as Henry.
Facing such a high-level opponent for the first time, it was impossible for Steven not to be nervous.
But since he had already decided to go through with it, he wouldn't hesitate.
Steven also had an escape plan. If things went south, he'd be the first to lead the team out.
Fluffy, being an animal, moved much faster than regular Psychics.
At that time, it could transform into a battle vehicle to help Steven escape from the underground.
If they were outside, Steven's snowmobile could easily outrun the enemy.
After all, West Mountain Base only had one snowmobile and a few dozen sleds, which were no big deal.
"Remember, completing the mission is the second most important thing. The first is to stay alive!" Steven seriously reminded Henry and Earl.
Henry smiled and nodded, while Earl nodded quickly.
At West Mountain Base...
After finishing her conversation with Steven, Lily immediately removed the SIM card from her phone and turned it off.
To avoid being caught for contacting the outside world, Lily only turned on her phone at intervals to check if Steven had messaged her.
Knowing that Steven would come to support her tomorrow night, Lily couldn't help but feel a bit excited.
Finally, she could lead her students out of this hell!
That night, Lily went to The Fourth Life Warehouse to find her students.
She didn't tell them about the escape plan for the next day.
After going through so much, Lily had gotten smarter and knew that such an important action must not be leaked, or everyone might be in danger.
Lily only told everyone not to sleep at midnight tomorrow because she had something very important to tell them.
Everyone agreed without any objections.
In recent days, more and more people around them had gone missing.
Especially recently, the frequency of these disappearances had increased, and everyone was scared.
Lily had become their only leader, so they naturally followed her instructions.
After notifying the students in The Fourth Life Warehouse, Lily returned to The Second Life Warehouse to find Molly and Sophia, now Peter's mistresses, and Nathan, who had become a member of the special forces.
She wanted to take all her students who were still alive; she couldn't leave anyone behind!
"Come to The Fourth Life Warehouse at midnight tomorrow. I have something very important to tell you," Lily said to the three of them.
Nathan agreed without hesitation. "Okay, Ms. Evans!"
As for Molly and Sophia, after hearing Lily's words, they started to think.
"Ms. Evans, you don't plan to escape, do you?" Molly leaned against the wall, her eyes cold as ice.
"In West Mountain Base, escaping without permission is considered betrayal and is punishable by death!" Sophia added nonchalantly, carefully applying her lipstick at the dressing table. "Ms. Evans wouldn't be that foolish, right? She is now the captain of the special forces, with a prestigious status and a comfortable life. There's no need to do such a thing."
Seeing their current state, Lily couldn't help but feel a bit heartbroken.
In just a few months, the youthful innocence they once had was gone, replaced by the appearance of two prostitutes.
They were not even twenty years old, yet their clothing and makeup were extremely mature, desperately showcasing their feminine charm.
Lily took a deep breath and said to them, "West Mountain Base is not the paradise you think it is. There are many dirty things here that you don't know about! Take my advice; this place is not suitable for you."
Unexpectedly, after hearing Lily's words, Molly and Sophia looked at each other and laughed. "Did you hear that? Ms. Evans said we don't understand anything? How ridiculous, Ms. Evans, do you really think we're children?"
The two girls laughed until their stomachs hurt.
Lily looked at them in shock. "You..."
Molly suddenly raised her head and coldly stared at Lily. "Don't be naive, Ms. Evans. We know better than you what this place is like!"
Molly walked step by step toward Lily, staring into her eyes. "But so what? This place is hell, but do you think the outside world is any better? At least here, we can live well and enjoy a superior life. We don't care about the lives of others!"
Sophia finished applying her lipstick, admired herself in the mirror, and then turned to Lily. "Ms. Evans, stop holding onto those naive fantasies. We appreciate you helping us survive, but this world is cruel. If you keep being a good person, you'll suffer one day!"
Lily looked at her students, feeling they were strangers.
Just a few months ago, they were still those cute girls, showing enough innocence and kindness in front of her.
But now, how could she describe them?
Although Lily didn't want to use such a word, "whore" indeed came to her mind.
Lily lost hope in them. She sighed and said, "Actually, I just wanted everyone to gather together for once."
After saying that, she turned and left their room.
Sophia and Molly were a bit stunned by her words and looked at each other.
"Do you believe what Ms. Evans said?" Sophia asked.
"I don't, do you?" Molly said.
"Neither do I," Sophia replied.
A sinister look suddenly flashed in Molly's eyes. "It seems she really plans to betray the organization! I'm going to report this to Mr. Martin!"
