Chapter 9 The Super Warehouse
The issue of obtaining a gun was resolved, and Steven felt much more at ease.
In the apocalypse, having a powerful gun would give him a tremendous sense of security, whether he encountered humans or non-human entities.
The next day, Steven packed some important items from his home into his personal space.
Since the house needed to be turned into a safe house, he had to move into a hotel temporarily.
Early in the morning, three black vans drove into Sunshine Community.
A large group of workers from IronShield Security Company, dressed in uniforms, got out of the vans and began measuring the dimensions of Steven's house.
Many neighbors watched this scene with curiosity.
"What's going on with Steven lately? Why is he always creating such a big fuss?"
Some neighbors even joked, "Yeah, I saw him at the supermarket the other day, buying three shopping carts full of food!"
"Hahaha! Anyone who doesn't know might think doomsday is coming. Stocking up on so much food, won't it all go to waste when it expires?"
"Maybe there's something wrong with his mind!"
Everyone found Steven's unusual behavior incomprehensible, but no one really cared; they just saw Steven as a joke.
Even Alice and Ivy thought Steven had lost his mind.
Ivy suddenly realized, "I get it now. No wonder he went to a Michelin three-star restaurant that day. Turns out he's gone crazy!"
Alice frowned, feeling particularly unhappy.
Thinking back to that day when she had approached Steven and helped him push all those things home, making her feet sore, she was very angry. "What's Steven up to, anyway?" she fumed.
Ivy, however, was a bit worried. "He did promise to treat us to a big meal. He hasn't forgotten, has he?"
She had been eagerly looking forward to dining at a Michelin three-star restaurant!
Alice scoffed, "Forget it! Seeing how he's been acting so crazy lately, I wouldn't go even if he invited me."
"If people saw us eating with him, how embarrassing would that be!" Alice planned to marry a wealthy husband in the future, and she couldn't afford to ruin her reputation.
Hearing Alice say this, Ivy felt reluctant but had no choice but to give up.
As for Steven, he didn't care at all about what the neighbors thought of him.
In a month, they would understand who the real joke was.
Steven left his house and drove to the Walmart warehouse.
It was Monday, and he had to go to work. He also planned to thoroughly inspect the warehouse to make it easier to take everything when the time came.
The Walmart warehouse was in the economic development zone, on the outskirts of Starlight City.
Because the land here was relatively cheap, many large corporations in Starlight City had their warehouses here.
Even some pharmaceutical companies had their warehouses here.
This made it convenient for Steven to get some special medications.
After arriving at the Walmart warehouse, Steven clocked in as usual.
As the warehouse manager, Steven was extremely familiar with the place.
He knew every warehouse and even every shelf like the back of his hand.
In the past, he found coming here particularly boring.
But today, seeing these massive warehouses and the goods worth tens or even hundreds of billions of dollars, he couldn't contain his excitement.
Because soon, he would take all these things, making them his most important resources in the apocalypse.
As the southern regional warehouse for Walmart, the amount of goods here was beyond anyone's imagination. There were tens of thousands of cases of cola stored alone!
The entire warehouse covered millions of square feet, packed to the brim with various living supplies.
In addition to food, clothing, and hardware tools, there were even cars, drones, diesel generators, and barrels of gasoline.
You could say that if a supermarket sold it, you could definitely find it here.
Having worked here for many years, Steven was very familiar with the contents of each shelf.
He also knew the work schedules and the locations of the cameras very well.
Despite the tight surveillance, he knew the system's vulnerabilities and could disable the entire monitoring system within ten minutes.
Then he could use his spatial abilities to take everything from the warehouse!
However, Steven wasn't in a hurry to act just yet.
Time was still on his side, and he didn't want to raise any suspicions too early.
After wandering around the warehouse, he left.
With a pack of cigarettes in his pocket, Steven headed to the MediWise Pharmaceutical Company warehouse next door.
Since he worked in the same area, he was quite familiar with the staff there.
After arriving, he found one of their warehouse managers, Derek Rivera.
Everyone knew each other's situations.
In large corporate warehouses, many people lived nearby and consumed items from the warehouse.
Derek's brother-in-law was the vice president of MediWise Group.
So, he often stole some medications from the warehouse to sell.
After finding Derek, Steven chatted with him for a while and then subtly mentioned his purpose.
He wanted to get a few boxes of special medications for treating acute illnesses.
Derek was initially cautious.
But when Steven mentioned he was willing to pay double the market price for the medications, Derek couldn't resist.
In the end, they struck a deal for $400,000 for five large boxes of medications.
For a normal person, the total number of illnesses in a lifetime wouldn't even use up half of that.
With the medications secured, Steven was almost fully prepared with all the supplies he needed for the apocalypse.
With less than a month until doomsday, he had no interest in continuing to work.
So, he went to the warehouse manager's office and lied, saying that his grandfather had passed away and he needed to go back home for the funeral, requesting twenty days off.
Steven was well-liked and had a good relationship with the manager.
So, despite the somewhat outrageous request, he wasn't given a hard time and easily got the leave approved.
For the next period, Steven planned to relax comfortably in a five-star hotel.
He would wait for the supplies he ordered to arrive and for the safe house to be completed.
As he walked out of the manager's office, he saw Alice bent over, making coffee at the coffee machine.
He had to admit, this woman had some assets that made her a scheming person; her whole demeanor exuded a certain allure.
Even while making coffee, she couldn't help but wiggle her hips.
This naturally attracted some young suitors who were very attentive to her.
A guy next to her, smiling, invited Alice to a concert, waving his tickets boastfully.
The guy was Paul Sanchez, and Steven had a strong impression of him.
They lived in the same neighborhood.
Moreover, he was Alice's most loyal follower, and in his previous life, Paul was one of the people who had a hand in Steven's demise.
