Chapter 67 Prove That You Are Harmless to Me
The room was unbearably hot.
Elinor felt like she was roasting in a furnace while wearing her down jacket; it was extremely uncomfortable.
Regardless of Steven pointing a gun at her, she quickly took off her thick down jacket to cool herself down a bit.
She was gasping for breath.
The tears in her eyes showed her inner excitement at this moment.
Warmth, there was so much warmth!
Such a comfortable indoor temperature was the ideal environment for human survival.
And she hadn't felt this kind of simple happiness for a long time.
"Did you forget something? Like this is my house, and you haven't completely passed my test yet." Steven said coldly to her.
At this moment, Elinor remembered there was a man in front of her.
Steven's gun was still aimed at Elinor.
Elinor forced a smile, "You are really cautious. I have already done as you said and taken care of your enemies, isn't that enough to earn your trust?"
Steven said blandly, "Those people were also a serious problem for you. Taking them out wasn't entirely for me; you also needed to survive."
"Taking them out only proves you have some utility and meet the basic conditions to be my helper."
"But next, you need to prove your harmlessness!"
Steven pointed out the crux of the issue.
After experiencing a long post-apocalyptic life, he was unwilling to easily trust anyone.
Because no matter what kind of person someone was in the past, they could lose their humanity in the apocalypse.
He could only trust himself; only by doing so could he survive in the apocalypse.
Elinor felt a bit helpless; she had done everything Steven asked, but she didn't know how to make Steven trust her.
However, she was unwilling to leave this warm house!
"So what do you want me to do to prove that I'm harmless to you?" Elinor looked at Steven with pleading eyes, almost begging.
Steven looked at her and asked cautiously, "You don't have any weapons hidden on you, do you?"
Elinor raised her hands speechlessly, "Look, in this state, it's impossible for me to hide any dangerous weapons, right?"
Steven's expression remained indifferent as he shook the gun in his hand.
"Raise your hands!" He demanded suddenly.
Steven meant to search her to ensure she didn't have any weapons hidden on her.
Elinor felt a bit embarrassed.
But she also understood that she had no right to refuse now.
Steven's home was too warm!
Compared to her previous living conditions, she thought this place was like heaven.
To get something, one must pay an equivalent price; she understood that very well.
"Okay, I understand." Elinor mustered the courage to do as Steven asked.
She was a smart woman and knew what to give to get what she wanted.
Steven looked at her with caution, preventing her from suddenly pulling out any deadly weapon.
This was entirely for safety; he wouldn't have any other thoughts.
Elinor slowly raised her hands, then placed them behind her head, pressing her body against the door as described in TV shows.
Steven cautiously walked over and searched her.
"Is this okay now?"
Elinor asked after Steven finished searching.
Steven confirmed Elinor wasn't carrying any weapons.
Then he glanced at the medical kit on the floor and said to Elinor, "I suggest you take a shower first."
Elinor's face turned deeply blushed. She hadn't showered for a long time, and she might have some odor, but there was nothing she could do about it!
Embarrassed, she quickly ran into the bathroom.
Steven found some women's clothes from the extradimensional space and threw them outside the bathroom. "Here are some clothes to change into. Try them on and see if they fit. If not, I'll find you other clothes."
Steven had managed the warehouse for so long that he had developed a good eye.
He could tell Elinor's clothing size at a glance.
Elinor answered softly from the bathroom.
Then, the sound of running water came.
Steven went to her medical kit, carefully opened it, and inspected it.
He found that there were no medications left inside, only a few rolls of nearly used-up bandages and two unopened syringes.
Steven thought for a moment, took the syringes, threw them into the extradimensional space, and then closed the medical kit.
He sat leisurely on the sofa, waiting for Elinor to finish her shower so he could continue talking with her.
In the bathroom, Elinor turned on the shower, and as the hot water sprayed on her head, her eyes filled with tears of excitement.
Only after losing something do people understand what happiness is.
She didn't realize the importance of everyday things until the apocalypse came.
Human civilization had developed for thousands of years, bringing convenient products that made humans increasingly delicate.
Since she hadn't showered for half a month, Elinor washed especially carefully this time.
After half an hour of washing, she suddenly realized this was Steven's house and sped up her shower.
After all, water resources were also very precious now.
Steven, however, didn't say anything or rush her because he had a large reserve of water.
Even in extreme situations, there was plenty of snow outside to use.
Human activities had been put on hold, and natural snow water was very clean, even drinkable.
Suddenly, the bathroom door opened.
Steven looked over and saw a steaming arm reach out from inside the door to pick up the clothes he had left outside.
Shortly after, Elinor came out wearing pajamas.
Her wet hair draped behind her, giving her a breathtaking beauty.
Steven, holding a gun, was indifferent to this beauty and remained cautious.
Until he was sure this woman was safe, he wouldn't lower his guard.
Even seemingly weak women or children could become deadly threats in the apocalypse.
"Thank you, Steven. I haven't showered in a long time. I hope you don't mind the water I expended."
Elinor looked a bit embarrassed.
Coming to an unfamiliar man's home, she felt very restrained.
Especially now, she didn't know what kind of person Steven was.
At times like this, it was always better to be careful and respectful; she didn't want to anger Steven, ending up being thrown out.
After experiencing the comfort of a safe house, no one would want to return to the freezing cold outside.
