Chapter 49 Shamelessly Borrowing Medicine from Steven
Grace and Larry were excited when they heard that Steven had medicine!
When people are at the brink of death, they will cling to any glimmer of hope.
Larry struggled to ask, "Is this true? Does he... really have medicine?"
Grace stared at her tightly, saying, "Alice, don't lie! Because of you, three of us were seriously injured."
Hearing the name Steven now also made her shudder.
Alice said, "It was just about a month ago, from that time, Steven seemed to have changed completely. He started hoarding things like crazy at home."
"I could see trucks delivering things to him almost every day."
"One time, I saw a pharmaceutical company's truck come to the neighborhood, and Steven went to pick it up."
"Then, they carried two big boxes to his house. It must be medicine inside!"
Elinor also chimed in, "Antibiotics are not rare drugs. If he really knew about the disaster in advance and hoarded supplies, he must have a lot of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs on hand."
As a doctor, Elinor was very certain about this.
Larry, seeing a glimmer of hope for his life, had a hint of madness in his eyes.
"Let's go find Steven quickly and ask him to give me the medicine to save my life!" he yelled out in pain, "My injury was caused by him, so he must save me!"
Grace, with a conflicted expression, bit her lip. "But with what just happened, he must despise us! He won't give us the medicine at all!"
Zachary was in unbearable pain.
He lay on the couch, groaning in agony. "Oh...I feel like I'm dying."
"Think of a way! Go beg Steven, make sure he saves us!" he asked.
Alice added, "We didn't harm him, and we even planned to leave some supplies for him after breaking in."
"It's him who didn't recognize kindness and turned violent against us. We are the righteous ones, we are not afraid of anything!"
Listening to these people, Elinor understood what had happened. A cold, indifferent look flashed in her eyes.
But this matter had nothing to do with her, so she refrained from commenting further.
Elinor opened the medical kit and took out bandages to stop the bleeding for the three men.
There wasn't much left in the medical kit.
The medicines she kept at home were for emergencies, not in large quantities.
These days, she had been helping several neighbors with medical care, depleting her supplies.
If Grace and the others couldn't get the medicine, perhaps she could only help remove the arrows and bandage them up.
At the very least... she could make their deaths less painful.
Alice and the others spoke with a strong sense of justice.
Even now, they still believed they had done nothing wrong.
They were just trying to survive; what could be wrong with that?
Blame could only be placed on Steven for being too selfish. Why should he enjoy such good living conditions alone?
After pondering for a while, Grace suddenly pointed at Alice and said, "It's your responsibility now! I know, Steven pursued you before, so you are the most suitable for this task."
Larry and Zachary weakly agreed.
After all, Alice caused all of this.
If she hadn't informed them about the situation at Steven's house and assured them that his defenses were weak and easily breached, they wouldn't have been so foolish to take the risk.
Although Paul was reluctant to let Alice ask Steven, the severe pain in his arm and the danger of death made him choose to stand by Grace's side.
He said to Alice, "Alice, we are a group, right? This task will have to be entrusted to you. We all need to stay alive to protect you."
Alice looked conflicted, her heart full of reluctance.
After all, she had been insulted by Steven before.
But now, she had no choice.
It was only through her relationship with Paul that she could join this group.
Otherwise, as a fragile woman with no skills other than being cute, she wouldn't have much use in confronting bullies like Andrew.
Other teams wouldn't choose to let her join.
Even if she could join, she might end up being treated as a plaything.
In the post-apocalyptic world, women, especially those without any skills other than being cute and coquettish, were so undervalued.
Elinor picked up the surgical knife, but due to limited conditions, she was unable to disinfect them.
Even with an alcohol lamp, it would solidify in this temperature.
Moreover, without medication, sterilization at present was just meaningless work.
She had Larry bite down on a towel and began to remove the arrows.
In an operating room without anesthesia, soon there were cries of agony, with Larry almost biting through the towel!
The room was filled with a chilling atmosphere, urging Alice to contact Steven for medication.
Alice, with a brave face, dialed Steven on Facebook Messenger.
"Beep... Beep... Beep..."
Steven was at home, preparing to eat.
It was quite miraculous that although it was his first time killing, his heart was surprisingly calm.
He felt no fear, only a sense of excitement from a successful revenge.
This satisfaction pleased him, for in this post-apocalyptic world, such a mindset was necessary for survival.
Initially, he was afraid he might vomit or have insomnia.
But having experienced more extreme situations than anyone else, nothing could break his composure now.
At that moment, the phone rang.
Steven, intrigued, picked it up and saw it was Alice calling. His eyes widened, with a slight smile.
"Is she calling to scold me after I beat her so badly?" he thought.
Without hesitation, he answered.
The worse the other party's situation, the happier he felt.
He put the call on speaker and started making lunch in the kitchen.
"What's up?"
Steven's voice was gentle, as if he hadn't just killed Louis, and shot arrows at Larry and the others.
But the more gentle his tone, the more chilling Grace and the others felt.
Under the gaze of the group, Alice also spoke out loud.
She pleaded, "Steven, Louis is dead, and Paul and the others you shot are dying. Can you forgive me?"
She cried bitterly, as if trying to win Steven's sympathy.
However, Steven just casually replied, "If they're dead, just let them be. They were going to die sooner or later anyway!"
With a knife in hand, he approached the microphone and said in a chilling tone, "Do you really think you can survive this snow disaster?"
His voice sounded like it came from hell, sending shivers down the spines of Grace and the others.
Steven voiced their deepest fears.
With the city snowed in, their building had become an isolated island.
Even if they managed to survive for now, their supplies would soon run out. They would either be killed by Andrew or freeze and starve to death.
Trembling, Alice continued, "Steven, I know I was wrong. It's all my fault for not agreeing to your pursuit. But now I want to change, can you forgive me?"
