Chapter 471 Nonsense

The morning sun hit the Snowfall Cult's headquarters, casting a harsh light on the aftermath of last night's brutal battle. A lot of cult members didn't make it through the night.

But thanks to the Snowfall Cult's army of Psychics and their knack for dealing with zombies, the death toll was starting to drop.

After meeting up with Otha, Neil and his group headed back to HQ and started moving the non-combat folks to safety.

They chose the underground parking lot as their hideout, barricading the doors with whatever they could find.

Only the fighters stayed outside to keep everyone safe.

They had tried sending cult members to the upper floors before, cutting off the stairs below. But those relentless zombies could even scale the building to hunt them down.

The Snowfall Cult had learned from their losses and wised up.

The area around the Church of the Holy Ground was a mess.

The dawn didn't promise a fresh start.

There were bodies everywhere—human, zombie, and giant rat alike.

Cult members, exhausted from the day's battles, now had to clean up the battlefield in a hurry.

First, they had to clear the bodies and move them to the abandoned building next to the church for the Bloodfeeder Vine to take care of.

Otherwise, the recently deceased could turn into new zombies.

Some were gathering the giant rat corpses. They were fresh meat—a rare find these days.

No one knew if they carried any nasty viruses or diseases, but as long as eating them didn't kill you right away, they were fair game.

No one was thinking long-term; being full for a day was good enough.

Chase, a priest with some status in the Snowfall Cult, had been well-protected last night.

But the battle was so intense that he got separated from his family.

He had only found his wife, Dione, and now they were frantically searching the battlefield for their son, Delbert.

"Where did Delbert go? It's so dangerous out here, why won't he listen!" Dione's face was etched with worry.

With dead bodies everywhere, she was terrified that Delbert might be among them.

Last night, they could have stayed hidden.

But Delbert, worried about his girlfriend Clio, ran off to find her despite Dione's protests.

They hadn't seen Delbert or Clio since.

Chase's face was just as grim as he asked around the battlefield about Delbert.

But they were new to the Snowfall Cult and didn't know many people.

No one had the time or concern to worry about Delbert's fate.

The two of them anxiously combed through the area, calling out for Delbert.

Then Chase reached a corner of a building's ruins, and what he saw left him speechless—In the shadows of the ruins, Delbert lay on the ground, covered in blood, his lower body soaked in dark red.

Standing over him, the Snowfall Cult's leader, Natasha, held a sharp dagger, staring down at him with a cold, emotionless gaze.

Chase's mind went blank.

But the next moment, the instinct of fatherly love made him shout "Delbert!" and rush towards him.

Natasha continued to look down at Delbert, a hint of madness struggling in her eyes.

Without turning her head, she extended her left hand towards Chase.

Chase felt as if he had been hit by a truck, flying backward and landing heavily on the ground.

Dione arrived at this moment, seeing Chase fall and the scene Delbert was facing, her face turned deathly pale!

Natasha looked down at Delbert and murmured, "You're too filthy! You need to be purified."

The scene before them filled Chase and Dione with utter despair.

They couldn't understand why the holy Natasha would harm their son Delbert!

At that moment, the high priest Neil appeared.

He glanced at the situation, frowned slightly, and then walked past Chase and Dione to Natasha's side.

He was tall, a head taller than Natasha.

Seeing Natasha's twisted and struggling expression, he opened his large cloak and embraced her.

Natasha's body remained stiff, but the madness in her eyes seemed to dissipate a bit.

"I'm helping him," she said slowly in a cold tone. "Original sin, unforgivable."

"I know, I know. You did nothing wrong!" Neil let Natasha hold the blood-stained dagger and then led her away.

Chase and Dione could only watch them leave.

They were filled with anger and fear, but they had no time to think about it and hurriedly checked on Delbert.

When they reached Delbert, they found him unconscious, his face pale. His lower body was covered in blood, but his upper body had no fatal wounds.

Chase's face turned extremely grim.

He thought of the initiation purification ritual.

It was said that many young boys who joined the Snowfall Cult went through that step.

Previously, he had served the Snowfall Cult with his Supernatural ability, thinking Delbert could avoid this fate.

But he hadn't expected this day to come!

The two were heartbroken.

The only good news was that Delbert's life was saved.

After performing the surgery, Natasha hadn't forgotten to use her ability to stop his bleeding.

But when he woke up, how would he face the changes in his body?

Chase and Dione were in tears. Anger, helplessness, despair, pity, and confusion filled their hearts.

They couldn't understand why Delbert had been treated that way by Natasha.

At that moment, Dione noticed a trembling figure not far away.

In the shadow of a corner, Delbert's girlfriend Clio was huddled, hugging her knees and shaking with fear.

Dione remembered that Delbert had gone out to protect her and gritted her teeth, shouting at her, "Clio, what the hell happened! Why did Ms. Carter treat Delbert like that? Was it because of you?"

Facing Dione's questioning, Clio shook her head repeatedly, crying. "I... I didn't do anything!"

She lowered her head, looking aggrieved and confused.

"We were just escaping for our lives, and he kissed me once, then Ms. Carter saw us. And then she..."

Clio thought of the scene just now, filled with sorrow. "I don't know why she acted that way either!"
