Chapter 25 Scolding Clara
Steven sneered.
In his previous life, he underestimated the severity of the snow disaster.
Thinking it would be nice to do a favor for his neighbors, he took out some of his hoarded supplies.
But what was the result?
Instead of receiving gratitude from his neighbors, he was mistaken for having a large amount of supplies at home.
The final result was that he was killed by people who broke into his house and treated as food.
It could be said that Clara was also implicated in his death from his previous life!
He smirked and casually sent a voice message.
"Well, that's great, we've run out of supplies at home. Mrs. Lewis, when you collect supplies, please remember to share some with me!"
Clara was furious and immediately started scolding in the room.
"You scoundrel! Who do you think you're fooling? Your family must have hoarded a lot of things."
"You've been working at the warehouse for so many years, I don't believe you haven't brought back supplies!"
She was so sure because Steven often helped neighbors buy discounted goods from the Walmart warehouse.
For example, some damaged packaging products and expired food would be sold at very low prices.
As an insider, he had the privilege of priority purchasing.
Sometimes, the warehouse even distributed them as employee benefits.
Clara's expression froze, but she was not willing to give up.
She was convinced that Steven had plenty of supplies at home, and as long as she could persuade him, she and her grandson could get a lot of supplies. At least they could survive for another week!
Clara took a deep breath and tried to use a gentle yet stern tone to say, "Steven, don't play jokes with me. Everyone knows you're the manager of the Walmart warehouse, youcan't lack food and drinks."
"This time it's an order from the organization, you must obey! If you make contribution, all of us will remember your kindness."
"Listen, hand over all the things in your house to me, set an example!"
Steven picked up a toothpick to clean his teeth, as he had eaten chicken wings for lunch and had something stuck in his teeth.
With a lazy tone, he said, "I'm not lying to you, we've run out of everything at home. Nowadays, even the wealthiest people don't have food reserves!"
"Mrs. Lewis, can you give me a few pieces of bread! As a member of the neighborhood committee, you should set an example and show some spirit of dedication!"
Steven mocked.
Seeing that Steven was still stubborn, Clara knew that a gentle approach was not going to work.
She intensified her tone, her voice becoming lower.
"Steven!"
"I'm talking to you nicely, but you don't want to listen, right?"
"Do you assume I'm talking with you individually? I'm acting as a representative of an organization!"
"You refuse to hand over the supplies, it's a confrontation with the organization. I will definitely punish you then!"
Steven chuckled.
"Ridiculous!"
"You still represent the organization? You really turned this small matter into a tool for your abuse of power!"
"You're just a worker in the neighborhood committee, let alone a high-ranking position, you're not even a government official."
"You usually deceive those uneducated elderly people, Now want to deceive me? You foolish woman!"
"If you have the ability, go ahead and punish me. I'll be waiting for your punishment at home!"
Steven ruthlessly exposed Clara's true colors.
The neighborhood committee staff were just social workers, not high-ranking officials, and certainly not government employees.
Moreover, Clara was just a runner in their neighborhood committee, not even a small leader.
Of course, even if she were a big shot, at this point, Steven wouldn't bother with her.
After scolding Clara, Steven decisively hung up the phone and blocked her.
This old woman loved to curse people, and he didn't have the time or patience to argue.
His actions infuriated Clara!
Steven had opposed her several times, showing her no respect.
As the self-proclaimed leader of the neighborhood, she couldn't stand it!
"Steven, you damn scoundrel! I really want to kill you!"
Clara shouted in anger.
But she could only curse him for a few words. In fact, she was struggling to protect herself now and couldn't really do anything to Steven.
She wanted to remove Steven from the homeowners' chat group.
But upon second thought, doing so wouldn't harm Steven much.
She also considered rallying everyone in the group to collectively condemn Steven.
However, if she did that, everyone would know that Steven refused to share supplies.
If everyone followed suit, she wouldn't be able to deceive them anymore.
Regardless, at this point, she couldn't do anything to Steven.
The more Clara thought about it, the angrier and more upset she became.
But she had no choice but to endure her anger.
For her now, the top priority was to deceive others.
She had to take advantage of them not being alert yet and try to get their supplies!
Over the next two days, Clara used a combination of coaxing and intimidation to successfully deceive some supplies.
But not everyone was a fool.
In the face of doomsday, everyone's priority was to ensure their own and their family's survival.
Some people chose to ignore Clara's requests.
Some with a more aggressive temperament directly scolded Clara and sent her away when she came asking for supplies.
And people like Andrew and Frank, who were not easy to deal with, she didn't even have the courage to approach.
Steven could see all of these through the surveillance cameras.
But he continued enjoying his own life, as he had no need to meddle in other people's affairs.
From the arrival of the ice storm to now, it had been five days.
Ordinary households only had supplies for three to five days.
In their case, since some people worked at the large warehouse, they had slightly more supplies at home.
But due to the severe cold, heating required fuel and food, causing supplies to deplete faster.
In these days, a sense of hostility gradually emerged in the chat group.
The homeowners who initially behaved cooperatively and waited for official rescue began to change their attitudes due to the lack of energy for heating and food.
Especially those families, who had been deceived by Clara and lost supplies, finally couldn't help but question Clara in the group, asking how she planned to distribute the supplies taken.
[@B2, Rm 1502-Clara Lewis & Mrs. Lewis, you promised to distribute the supplies after taking them. When will you take action]
[Our supplies have run out, and it's been two days. Can you give us some!]
[Yes, you promised to distribute them uniformly, so everyone has something to eat!]
The homeowners clamored, including those who hadn't taken anything out before, hoping to get some supplies.
Clara seemed to have disappeared, not responding at all.
She could see these messages, but at this point, she had no intention of giving out any supplies.
In the whole building, only she and Steven really knew what was going on.
Outside had already descended into chaos, and survival required supplies; otherwise, they could only wait to die!
She held her grandson close, curled up in five layers of blankets, gritting her teeth and saying, "The supplies I've worked so hard to deceive, how could I possibly give them back to you!"
