Chapter 343 The Entanglement of Human Nature

Lily knew she couldn't keep spoiling these students any longer. She had to make them independent.

Only by experiencing the hardships of life and striving to live with their own hands could they become upright individuals.

Perhaps then, they wouldn't just complain when faced with difficulties.

So she decided to leave and go to Steven's shelter. Apart from delivering food to them daily, she would no longer cater to their excessive demands.

Lily sighed softly in her heart. After saying these words, she felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders.

She admitted that she also longed for comfort and had always wanted to be part of Steven's group, living in that comfortable mansion.

The only reason she had stayed was to take care of these students. But if the result was making them more fragile and unable to fend for themselves, she had no choice but to let go.

After Lily finished speaking, the room fell into a brief silence.

Suddenly, a girl, her face flushed with excitement, said, "Ms. Evans, are you taking us to live at Steven's shelter? That's great!"

Her thoughts were indeed naive.

Perhaps in her mind, Lily was someone who should sacrifice everything for them without any personal desires.

Before the other students could join in the cheer, Lily loudly said, "That's not the case! I'm the only one going. You all need to stay here and learn to live on your own!"

"Steven promised me he could provide food for ten people daily, and I will bring it to you every day. But if situations like today arise, there's nothing I can do. And for the food that isn't enough, you'll have to find a way to get it yourselves. I won't spoil you anymore."

The students looked at Lily's serious face, hardly believing their ears.

How could the kind Lily suddenly change like this?

"Ms. Evans, you can't just leave us! You weren't like this before!" A girl said, almost in tears.

Another one chimed in, "Yeah, Ms. Evans, this is too selfish of you!"

Someone else said, "How can you think only of your own comfort and leave us to suffer here?"

Listening to the students' complaints, Lily lost all hope in them.

Flowers grown in a greenhouse wouldn't appreciate the gardener's hard work; they would just take everything for granted.

She had to let them face the harsh realities on their own.

"I've made my decision. There's no need to say more."

Lily gripped the Broadsword in her hand, gritted her teeth, and turned to walk out of the igloo.

The students panicked and hurriedly chased after her, shouting desperately.

If Lily really went to the shelter, who would take care of them in the future?

People only realize what they have when they lose it, and they were desperately trying to keep Lily.

Someone said, "Ms. Evans, we were wrong. Please don't leave us!"

Someone elese said, "We promise we won't slack off when catching fish anymore!"

Seeing Lily unmoved, a boy gritted his teeth and shouted, "You brought us to the West Mountain Base and then took us out. How can you just abandon us now? Is this what a teacher should do?"

Lily's body suddenly trembled. Her pupils contracted, filled with disbelief and heartache.

The students she cared about the most hurt her the deepest.

So, all her silent efforts were misunderstood, and they thought she had harmed them?

Lily took a deep breath, her eyes resolute as she quickened her pace, ignoring the students' desperate pleas.

Lily arrived at the shelter once again.

Elinor warmly invited her in, though her eyes were curious, wondering why Lily had returned.

Lily felt embarrassed to explain the situation to Elinor. After all, it was Steven who decided whether she could stay, so it was better to talk to him directly.

Of course, Lily was quite confident.

First, she knew her value. A powerful Psychic was highly sought after anywhere.

Second, she had a good relationship with Aubrey and Cindy, who could put in a good word for her.

Seeing Lily hesitant to speak, Elinor smiled and called Aubrey and Cindy over, saying, "You two keep Ms. Evans company! She seems to be in a bad mood."

Elinor glanced at Lily and smiled.

Aubrey nodded. "Okay, leave it to us!"

Cindy's eyes flashed with a peculiar look. "Ms. Evans, you seem to have figured things out!"

Aubrey and Cindy happily approached Lily. Since parting at Innovation Academy, this was the first time they had gathered to chat.

Sitting on the sofa, Lily first asked about their recent lives.

Aubrey smiled happily and replied, "We've been doing great! Mr. Rogers is such a nice person; he doesn't even let us do housework. And he even set up a studio for me to pursue my hobbies. Honestly, I'm happier now than I was at school!"

Lily thought, 'He values your mechanical talents, silly girl!'

Cindy smiled faintly. "Since we came here, life has indeed been comfortable. Ms. Evans, you want to come here too, don't you?"

Cindy could see right through Lily's thoughts. It was inevitable; Lily's emotions were often written all over her face. Especially in front of her two students, she couldn't hide her feelings.

Lily's face turned slightly red, a bit embarrassed. "Cindy, I really should leave. Steven was right; always protecting those kids will only make them dependent," she said.

Cindy's lips curled into a slight smile, and she asked directly, "But deep down, Ms. Evans, don't you want to move here?"

Lily opened her mouth but didn't know what to say. She felt a bit flustered.

As a teacher, she should be more upright and determined. But she did have her own desires; she really wanted to enjoy life too!

Lily didn't know how to explain. Cindy's gaze was too penetrating, making her feel completely seen through.

But at that moment, Cindy suddenly took her hand and smiled gently. "It's okay, Ms. Evans. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness. You're doing the right thing!"

Cindy's gentle yet reassuring gaze healed Lily. Cindy's support slowly eased her guilt.

'Yes, there is nothing wrong with what I was doing,' Lily thought.
