Chapter 498 Sharing Frostheart
Steven couldn't care less about Lanny's taunts.
In his mind, anyone still acting cocky during the apocalypse was asking for a short life.
If it weren't for Lanny's crazy strength and Otha's protection, he'd be long gone.
And if Lanny ever tried to take on Steven, Steven had a hundred ways to make him regret it.
Once he left Otha's side, Steven knew they weren't going anywhere soon, which made him feel a lot better.
No matter what the Snowfall Cult was planning, with folks from Silvercrest District around, Starlight City wouldn't go to hell.
He headed over to Emberwick Base to find Megan.
The soldiers at Emberwick Base knew Steven well. After a bunch of battles, they had mad respect for him—As enemies, they feared Steven; As comrades, they respected Steven.
"Mr. Rogers, hang tight, I'll go get her." A Psychic captain said and went to find Megan.
Before long, Megan showed up.
"What do you need?" Megan asked with a big smile.
Steven looked around and said, "Let's take a walk!"
Megan looked a bit surprised, gave Steven a once-over, and said with a smirk, "You got plenty of women at home! Don't get any funny ideas about me."
Steven couldn't help but laugh. "You're overthinking it! I just need your help with something, and it's too crowded here to talk."
"Alright then." Megan and Steven walked out of the camp center, strolling through the snow and ruins.
Once they were alone, Megan said, "What's up? You can spill now, right?"
Steven said, "Didn't you say you could get info on everyone in Starlight City?"
"Yep!" Megan blinked and looked at Steven's profile. "Why, who do you want to check on?"
Most people in Starlight City were dead, so whoever Steven wanted to check on was probably in the Snowfall Cult camp.
Megan was super curious about what Steven was up to.
Steven said calmly, "I need info on the leaders and their deputies of Frostwood Base, Silverlake Base, and the Snowfall Cult."
Megan couldn't help but ask, "You still don't trust them?"
Steven smiled faintly, "It's not about trust, I'm just a cautious guy who likes to be prepared."
Megan pouted, "Do you want our info too?"
Steven laughed heartily, "If you're willing, that'd be great!"
"I'm not willing." Megan shot back without hesitation.
No way she was letting her info get out to Steven.
Steven looked at her with a smile. "So, can you do it or not?"
Megan frowned, her eyes full of suspicion. She had no clue what Steven's game was.
The info she had wasn't detailed enough to tell everyone's life story.
But after the apocalypse, she used her old job's perks to gather as much info as she could on key figures from each faction.
So her stats were pretty solid.
However, those were pre-apocalypse data, not super useful now.
Giving that info to Steven wasn't a big deal.
"I can give it to you, but..." Megan raised an eyebrow, "What will you give me in return?"
She wasn't about to hand it over for free.
Steven smiled faintly, "What do you want? Food, energy, or weapons?"
"I don't need that stuff." Megan waved her hand.
With so many people dead, the resource shortage in Starlight City was easier to handle.
"If I give you the info, I want a promise from you."
"A promise? What kind of promise?" Steven asked.
Megan looked at him and smiled, "If one day we're in danger, I hope you'll help us out."
Steven found it kind of amusing. "Do you think a promise like that is useful?"
Megan said seriously, "I think it is! Starlight City only has us left. If we want to keep surviving, we need to work together and keep some kind of order."
"Otherwise, in total chaos, no one can live peacefully."
Steven thought about it and figured it was an easy condition to accept. If Megan needed his help in the future and it was something he could handle without too much trouble, he wouldn't mind helping. But if it required a lot, that would be a different story.
"Alright, I can promise you that." Steven nodded.
For Megan, it was a win-win deal since she didn't have to give up much. It was just some useless info in the system.
"The information is on our base's server. I'll send it to you when I get back," Megan said.
"When do you plan to go back?" Steven asked.
Megan said as she walked, "Tomorrow! Things here are almost settled. We should go back and rebuild our home!"
"There's one more thing, which is to reorganize our armed forces." She took a deep breath. "We suffered too much in this battle."
She looked at Steven. "What about you guys, aren't you leaving?"
Steven smiled faintly, "We'll be leaving soon too!"
There were some things he wanted to observe a bit more. And he also wanted to talk with the investigation team.
He had to make sure all the Zombie Kings in Starlight City were dead before he could safely return to the shelter. Otherwise, with the speed at which Zombie Kings spread the virus, if even one survived, a terrifying zombie wave could come back soon.
Steven and Megan returned to the camp, and Steven acted as usual, greeting Neil and the others from the Snowfall Cult with a smile.
He didn't show any suspicion towards the Snowfall Cult or any curiosity about the sudden appearance and disappearance of the zombie wave.
That night, Megan told everyone their plan to leave. "Starlight City is in ruins now, and our Emberwick Base has suffered heavy losses. We need to start over. We need to go back and rebuild quickly."
Everyone understood. But at that moment, Natasha suddenly said, "Everyone, after this battle, Starlight City is severely weakened. Each faction has suffered heavy losses, and there are gaps in our combat power."
"Therefore, I have decided to offer my humble contribution." Saying this, she took out five small wooden boxes.
Everyone was familiar with them. All the major factions in Starlight City had received them before—Inside were Frosthearts, separated from Natasha herself.
For Natasha, separating Frosthearts wasn't an easy task. Frosthearts were her most essential cells. She could only produce a few hundred in her lifetime. Each time she produced a Frostheart, it would put her body into a weakened state.
But this time, she gave one to each of the five factions present. Even the investigation team received one from her.
"There are limited quantities, so I gave each faction two Frosthearts. If you find someone with potential, give it to them. But if you don't have anyone with Intuition Sensing to judge the potential of the target, it's best to give it to the current Psychics. It can stimulate human potential and make Psychics stronger!"
As Natasha said this, her gaze lightly swept over the leaders.
