Chapter 174 Ice and Snow Abilities
Steven drove the snowmobile, taking Elinor to Emerald Estate.
On the way, they had to pass the road by the Mississippi River.
He glanced at the river, feeling a bit wary.
Steven had taken out four villagers and eight precious sled dogs; those villagers definitely wouldn't let him off easily.
But as Steven looked around, he didn't see any signs of people on the river.
'Better if they don't come looking for trouble.' Steven thought to himself.
On the way back, the snow started to get heavier.
Recently, the snowfall hadn't been as intense as it was at the beginning.
The air itself was arid, devoid of the comforting moisture that might bring relief. Instead, the climate favored light snow and piercing, dry winds that bit at any exposed skin, conveying a relentless chill.
As the snow got heavier, Steven turned on the wipers to clear the snow off the windshield.
The road ahead was becoming hard to see.
This made Steven frown slightly, feeling something was off. 'Why does this snow feel worse than when the blizzard first started?'
The wind and snow grew stronger, and even inside the cabin, they could hear the howling wind outside.
The wipers couldn't keep up with the falling snow; it was as if the snowflakes were being drawn to the snowmobile, rushing towards it.
Steven finally sensed something was wrong. "No, this snow isn't normal!"
Suddenly, a large snowdrift appeared ahead, crashing directly into the vehicle.
A loud bang came from the car.
Elinor screamed in fright and grabbed Steven's arm tightly. "Steven, why is the snow so heavy?"
Steven's expression turned serious. "This is probably not just a simple heavy snow!"
The road ahead was a white blur, completely obscured, making it difficult for the vehicle to move forward.
There were only two possibilities in this situation.
Either the blizzard had suddenly intensified, or someone was causing trouble.
With the simultaneous advent of the apocalypse and supernatural abilities, what was once deemed impossible now became possible."
Steven's right eye flashed with white light, and the door to his extradimensional space opened in front of the snowmobile.
The raging snowstorm rushed into the extradimensional space, disappearing without a trace, as if it had never existed.
Steven cleared a path and accelerated forward.
Soon, he noticed that the snowmobile's speed hadn't decreased, and the wind and snow suddenly changed direction.
Elinor looked ahead and suddenly pointed in terror. "Tornado!"
Right in front of the snowmobile, a snow tornado was forming, quickly growing to 33 feet high and heading straight for them!
Elinor's face turned pale with fear; in the face of such natural forces, human power seemed insignificant.
Even the snowmobile felt like a tiny toy.
Steven didn't say a word; at this moment, he was certain this wasn't a natural phenomenon but an attack by a Psychic!
And it was most likely from Cox Town, with a small chance from Emerald Estate.
'Stay calm. I had to stay calm!' If he panicked now, it would be over!
This was Steven's first encounter with a hostile Psychic; he had no experience in fighting with supernatural abilities.
The information he got online told him that almost everyone's mutations were different.
You could never know what someone else's power was, nor how strong it could be.
So, to defeat his opponent, the key was to understand one piece of information—the opponent's ability.
Steven told himself, 'My ability is absolute defense; as long as I don't panic, the opponent can't kill me. So, I don't need to worry about my safety.'
'And the opponent's ability clearly involves manipulating ice and snow.'
'His attacks on me are very precise; he must be nearby.'
'First, I need to determine how many types of attack methods he has.' Steven quickly made a judgment.
Facing the massive snow tornado, Steven immediately opened the Dimension Door in front of the snowmobile!
The Dimension Door's range was within 10 feet around Steven's body, just enough to cover the entire snowmobile.
The tornado came rushing in, and Elinor closed her eyes in terror, letting out a scream.
But in an instant, the massive snow tornado disappeared.
The ground returned to calm, with only snowflakes gently falling.
Not far away, behind a snowdrift, Earl looked stunned.
The attack that was supposed to be a sure hit had suddenly disappeared?
He couldn't understand!
He didn't know what kind of ability could neutralize his powerful Snow Tornado attack!
And after using this move, his face turned much paler.
Clearly, controlling such a large amount of ice and snow took a significant toll on him.
The two Cox family members holding guns beside him asked in a low voice, "Earl, are you okay?"
Earl gritted his teeth and said, "I'm fine! But this guy is indeed tough. He must be a Psychic, too, and I can't figure out his ability."
"Retreat!"
Earl decisively ordered a retreat.
Humans were always filled with fear of the unknown.
Earl was the strongest pillar of Cox Village, so his orders were absolute.
The two beside him quickly moved to take him away.
Inside the snowmobile, Steven had already put on his tactical goggles.
He took out an assault rifle from the extradimensional space and loaded the bullets.
'The opponent's attack has stopped; it seems that move took a lot out of them, too.'
'Let me see where they are!' he thought.
Steven was a firm believer in science.
Even if organisms gained powers through genetic mutations, they still had to comply with the laws of physics.
An attack like that snow tornado would require a huge amount of energy, which would be a significant drain on the human body.
It was akin to a character in a fighting game employing a powerful move, only to enter a subsequent cooldown period, where their abilities were temporarily diminished.
In this regard, his extradimensional space was like a bug.
Because the extradimensional space had no offensive capabilities, it only had the functions of storing and releasing.
These two functions didn't require energy.
But it could reflect the opponent's attack by changing vectors.
Steven had to take this opportunity to launch a counterattack against the hidden enemy!
With the tactical goggles on, he activated the night vision function, and anything with a heat signature would be revealed.
Soon, Steven saw three human-shaped red figures a few hundred feet away.
They were on the other side of the Mississippi River.
Steven quickly opened the car door, got out, and aimed his gun at the three figures, firing!
The bullets flew through the air, grazing past Earl and the others and instantly piercing one person's thigh!
"He has an assault rifle!" the person shouted in pain.
Earl's pupils contracted sharply as he turned to look across the river.
At a distance of a few hundred feet, the two could only see each other as small dots.
"Too far away!" Steven said calmly, then quickly put away the assault rifle.
Even with precision shooting aids, the performance of the gun and the influence of the wind made it impossible to hit the target accurately.
So, he took out his beloved large-caliber sniper rifle and aimed at the middle of the three on the other side.
The infrared signature from that person was particularly conspicuous.
