Chapter 388 God's Will
After Megan's video was sent, the shelter went into a state of alert.
One obvious change was that Steven and the others started sleeping in their combat gear every night.
Whenever enemies attacked, they would immediately get up and fight back.
However, in the short term, neither Megan nor Leonard had plans for a direct assault.
Planning a large-scale war is not that easy.
Especially since Emberwick Base and Silverlake Base were quite far from the shelter.
To wage war, they had to consider logistics and intelligence gathering, among other issues.
Crucially, they also had to guard their own bases to prevent them from being taken over by other forces.
At the shelter, Lily couldn't eat for several days because of the student's death.
Steven had Elinor give her a nutrient solution.
With a war about to break out, she, as one of the main combat forces, couldn't just lie around.
But looking at her mental state, it was clear it would take a long time for her to get over this.
Steven didn't try to persuade her otherwise.
He let her keep her remorse and hatred for Emberwick Base.
When the war broke out in a few days, she could vent her emotions.
Releasing accumulated negative energy would make her feel better.
At this moment, an old man in a white cloak appeared from the distant snowy landscape, walking step by step towards the shelter.
His steps were not fast but steady. Although he looked old, his footprints were deeply imprinted in the snow, leaving two lines of marks.
He was Jordan, a clergy member of the Snowfall Cult.
Braving the wind and snow, he walked step by step to a place not far from the shelter. Through a thick wall of ice and snow, he looked up at the black shelter standing in the storm.
The wind and snow made it hard for him to keep his eyes open.
But as he stood there, a golden glint flashed in his weathered gray eyes.
In his eyes, the whole world changed color.
The world unfolded like a painting.
Suddenly, his body began to tremble slightly.
In his eyes, an immense aura was swirling above the shelter, so vast that it covered the entire sky above it!
"Besides that one, there's actually another Psychic out there this damn strong. Is this God's will?" he muttered under his breath.
Snowfall Cult's Jordan.
Supernatural ability: Intuition Sensing.
He could see the aura on everyone.
Living people all have an aura, and the stronger the life force, the more vigorous the aura.
Especially Psychics, whose auras are rich in vibrant colors.
The more brilliant and vast the color, the stronger and more potential the Psychic.
Because of this ability, Jordan could spread the teachings of the Snowfall Cult leader Natasha and recruit many followers.
He could see talented Psychics and those who had not yet awakened.
It can be said that the rapid expansion of the Snowfall Cult was related to his ability.
Jordan's supernatural ability faded in an instant. He took a deep breath and, leaning on his cane, began to walk back step by step.
Such a significant discovery had to be reported to Leader Natasha and High Priest Neil.
Emberwick Base.
Megan had already decided to go to war with Steven's shelter.
On the surface, it was all about revenge for her cousin Christian and her fallen crew.
But the real play? Using this as her ticket to push into the West Mountain and Eternal River Districts and snag their sweet resources.
Still, she wasn't about to charge in blind.
Steven's setup was a mystery, and she wasn't taking any chances.
She needed time to gear up and get her ducks in a row.
Not long after, her deputy Byron brought someone to her.
It was a burly, fierce-looking middle-aged man.
"Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Grayson. Name's Alexander. Used to run things at IronShield Security. I was on the Emerald Estate shelter project. And that guy Steven? I built a safe house for him once."
If Steven saw him again, he would definitely recognize Manager Alexander.
As a former IronShield manager, he'd been military, a hired gun, and a full-time bodyguard.
When the apocalypse hit, he clawed his way through with raw combat skills and a killer instinct.
Now he's with Emberwick Base, leading a squad of grunts.
Byron dug him up while snooping around on Steven and brought him in.
Hearing this, Megan curiously asked, "Are you very familiar with Steven?"
Alexander replied, "Not really, just a simple employer-company relationship. However, I am very familiar with the place he currently resides."
Megan wasn't very familiar with Emerald Estate 101.
"Is there something special about it?"
Alexander then explained the situation of the shelter in detail.
After hearing him out, Megan's eyes lit up. "No wonder they held off West Mountain Base for over a month without a scratch! Your shelter's the real deal, huh?"
Alexander smirked. "West Mountain couldn't touch it, but we at Emberwick? We'll crack it wide open. Leave it to me, Ms. Grayson!"
Alexander naturally wouldn't miss this opportunity to make a contribution.
Emberwick Base also had a strict hierarchy.
The higher the rank, the better the food, housing, and various supplies.
Megan looked at him. "Do you know the weaknesses of that shelter?"
Alexander nodded. "IronShield was top-tier—never skimped on materials. But since we built it, we know the layout and specs inside out. Get us close enough with our heavy rigs, and we can slice through those walls like butter!"
Sure, hauling heavy-duty vehicles from Emberwick Base to Eternal River District wasn't exactly a cakewalk.
But Emberwick wasn't hurting for fuel, so they could handle the burn.
With Alexander, who knew the shelter's blueprints like the back of his hand, tearing through those walls was totally doable.
Megan gave him a sharp look. "You're in. Do this right, and you'll be running your own crew."
Alexander's face lit up. "Thanks, Ms. Grayson!"
Once he was gone, Megan leaned back, chin in hand, lost in thought. 'No matter how solid that shelter is, it's still just a shelter. West Mountain had the firepower to level it. So why the hell didn't they?'
