Chapter 142 Carrying Out the Murder Plan

Steven comforted Henry.

At this moment, Henry meant something entirely different to Steven.

Henry's body had mutated, and the nature of his abilities was unknown.

However, based on Elinor's description and his current observations, Henry's abilities seemed to enhance his physical strength.

This was crucial for Steven!

What he needed was someone useful, which might not sound pleasant, but essentially, he needed muscle and a shield.

"Just focus on recovering; you don't need to worry about anything else right now," Steven reassured.

Henry, sounding weak, said, "I feel bad for troubling you. Now, I have no strength at all; I can't even lift my arms." He continued, "At this rate, I don't know how long I'll be troubling you."

Steven knew it was the muscle relaxant's effect.

"It's okay, and you just rest and recover. I'll handle everything else."

Henry looked at Steven gratefully and nodded.

Cara, who was nearby, quickly chimed in, "Steven, you're so good to Henry. We don't know how to thank you enough!"

"We're counting on you from now on!" she added.

Henry blushed and weakly said, "Cara, we can't keep troubling him. Once I recover, I can take care of you."

Cara placed her hand on his shoulder and said, "You got shot! When will you recover? Even if you do, you won't be the same as before. What can you do?"

She continued, "Steven is so capable, and he wants to take care of us. Why are you refusing his kindness?"

Henry's face turned red. He wasn't good with words and didn't know how to respond to Cara.

Steven smiled slightly. "Mrs. Daniels is right. I'll take care of your family from now on."

Cara's eyes lit up, and she excitedly said, "Steven, you promised! You can't go back on your word!"

Steven smiled and nodded. "Of course, I won't go back on my word!"

Henry felt very embarrassed, "Steven, this is... I..."

Steven stopped Henry from continuing.

"Just focus on recovering!"

Steven said and then got up to leave. He hadn't reached the door when he silently counted down in his mind, '3, 2...'

Before he reached 1, Cara's voice rang out. "Steven, wait a moment. I need to talk to you!"

Steven smiled slightly.

Cara had been in this room all day.

Although he provided food and hot water, people always wanted more, and she would inevitably have more requests.

Moreover, when they came over, she didn't bring any of her and the child's daily necessities.

She definitely needed to go back to get things.

Steven turned around with a smile and asked, "Mrs. Daniels, what is it?"

Cara said, "Steven, we've been here all day. My phone is dead, and I can't charge it. Mia also needs a diaper change."

"Could you go get some things for me?" she asked.

Steven smiled helplessly. "Mrs. Daniels, I've been busy all day and am really tired. You know, I'm always fighting and killing, not only physically tired but also mentally exhausted."

"Besides, I'm not familiar with Henry's house or yours, and I don't know where your things are."

"Why don't you go get them yourself?"

Cara hesitated for a moment, glanced at Henry on the bed, and felt a bit reassured.

She jokingly stared at Steven and said, "When I come back, you better let me in!"

Steven said, "Don't worry! I'm not that kind of person! Henry is still here; I'll definitely open the door for you."

Cara smiled slyly and suddenly handed the baby in her arms to Steven. "Alright, you take care of the baby for me! I'll be right back!"

Cara thought Steven and Elinor couldn't take care of the baby, so if she left the baby, Steven would have to let her in.

Steven saw through her little scheme clearly.

He sneered inwardly. 'What? You think I can't just abandon this baby?'

Outwardly, he still smiled and said, "No problem, but Mrs. Daniels, you better come back quickly! I'm afraid I can't take care of the baby well."

Cara smiled smugly. "Don't worry. I don't want to stay outside either. This place is so nice; I can't bear to leave!"

She glanced at the comfortable house, her eyes full of satisfaction, as if she were looking at her new home.

Steven opened the door for Cara, and she went out.

Steven closed the door and looked down at the baby in the swaddle.

It was a fair-skinned baby, with skin as white as snow.

Seeing her, Steven felt a bit touched.

He couldn't help but reach out and touch the baby's cheek.

It was cool, like a piece of tender jelly.

Steven took a deep breath; he still couldn't bring himself to harm a child.

"I'll find a woman to adopt you later," he said.

Steven took out his phone and sent a message to Frank, then returned to the room to chat with Henry while holding the baby.

After leaving Steven's house, Cara immediately felt a bone-chilling cold.

Shivering, she quickly put on her hat and stuffed her hands into her pockets. "So cold! So cold!" she said, shivering.

She glanced back at Steven's thick door, her eyes filled with jealousy and longing.

'So, this room is so warm. Compared to it, the outside is like an icy hell!'

'My baby and I must live here; we can't leave! Only here can my baby grow up healthily.'

Thinking of her child growing up, Cara smiled.

But the cold outside brought her back to reality.

She quickly hugged herself and ran downstairs.

When she reached Henry's house and took out the key to open the door, a figure appeared behind her.

Frank raised a bloody kitchen knife and slashed at her neck!

Her blood gushed out like a spring.

Cara fell to the ground with a look of confusion, her wide eyes filled with fear of death and worry for her child.

Frank stepped forward, worried that Cara wasn't dead, and stabbed her a few more times.

Only after confirming that Cara had no signs of life did he nod in satisfaction and quickly leave the scene.

In Steven's house, with holding the baby, Steven sat by Henry's bed and said with a smile, "I've decided. Mrs. Daniels and the baby will stay here. When you recover and the baby grows up, you can move back."
