Chapter 46 High Voltage Currents

The people had arrived at Steven's doorstep, holding umbrellas, but the number of pinhole cameras installed by IronShield Security Company on this floor was particularly high.

Their actions could be captured from various angles.

After the group arrived at the doorstep, Steven saw a person take out a few shiny metal tools from his pocket.

Then he inserted them into the keyhole of his security door.

"Trying to pick the lock to sneak in?"

Steven raised an eyebrow slightly, but didn't pay much attention.

If his security door was that easy to pick, the professionals at IronShield Security Company might as well go eat dirt.

Besides being world-class in terms of security level, this door was comparable to a bank vault with five additional defense layers.

To open the outermost lock, one would need to be a world-class locksmith, not to mention the physical levers installed inside.

The more complex something was, the simpler the way to unlock it, whereas simple things were harder to deal with, took Steven's door, for example.

Since he had no intention of going out, he simply inserted a 3.9 inches steel rod inside!

Unless a car kept ramming into it, it was impossible to break it with human force.

Moreover, Steven had anticipated someone trying to break in, so he had specially installed a unique defense mechanism.

Watching the surveillance on TV, Steven took out his phone, opened the security house control software, and lightly pressed a button.

Instantly, a huge electric current flowed through the security door!

As Louis was focusing on picking the lock, a powerful electric current ran through his body.

The people beside him turned pale with shock and hastily stepped back.

"Help...help me!"

Louis grimaced, seeking help from his companions.

The powerful electric current was like a pair of pliers, firmly gripping him, and he couldn't break free.

Alice, Paul, and others beside him were dumbfounded.

They hadn't expected this situation, nor did they have suitable insulating tools.

Soon, smoke rose from Louis' body, accompanied by a smell of burning.

"Boom!"

He fell to the ground, his clothes burnt to tatters, his arms and face skin charred.

Clearly, he couldn't survive.

Alice, Ivy, and others nearby let out a scream.

Witnessing someone die in front of them was a tremendous shock.

Meanwhile, Steven smiled slightly.

He felt somewhat inexplicably satisfied.

But who could they blame?

Their idea of targeting him was despicable!

Grace and others felt a chill down their spines, realizing their plan to break in had failed.

Larry and Louis were long-time buddies, and seeing his friend die so tragically, Larry's eyes were filled with rage.

"Steven, you bastard, get out!"

He picked up a shovel and smashed it against Steven's door, the sound echoing through several floors.

However, the massive iron door showed no sign of dent or damage.

After the paint peeled off, a thick alloy was revealed underneath.

Steven arrived at the door, hands in his pockets, a smirk on his face. "You want to break my door? Aren't you asking for death?"

He shook his head, sighing, "Aren't you happy being alive?"

Hearing Steven's taunts, the people outside were shocked and angry.

Grace shouted, "Steven, we came here to discuss living together with you in a friendly manner. How could you resort to murder?"

"You're even worse than Andrew, you're a murderer!"

Upon hearing a woman's voice, Steven realized the people outside weren't Andrew.

But he felt no remorse for Louis' death; after all, such people deserved it.

Realizing who the people outside were, he sneered.

It must be Alice, Ivy, and their group who knew how comfortable Steven's home was.

Steven's expression turned cold as he scolded without hesitation, "Don't act innocent! It was clearly you who came to my house to break in, trying to steal my property. He deserved to die!"

"It's just ridiculous, you are still shamelessly scolding me here!"

Larry pretended to remain calm.

He stated, "Steven, we didn't mean any harm. We just wanted to talk to you."

"But without a word, you killed our good friend Louis. Isn't that too much?"

"Don't you plan to explain yourself to us?"

Steven laughed heartily. "You just came to talk to me? You barged in and tried to break my door down, and that's so-called talking?"

"Hmph, after breaking in, your next step would probably be to kill me or drive me out to fend for myself."

"Then you would enjoy the safe house I painstakingly prepared, right?"

The group exchanged glances, realizing that was indeed their original intention.

Larry's frown deepened, filled with hatred for Steven after his good friend's tragic death.

But now, the most important thing was how they could break in.

Taking a deep breath, Larry shouted, "Steven, this is your last chance! Open the door and let us in. Otherwise, the consequences will be unbearable for you!"

Alice also shouted from outside, "Steven, we won't harm you. We just want to live together and face the disaster together. Don't you recognize our goodwill?"

Ivy chimed in, "Yes, we can even let you stay in the master bedroom and provide resources for you first!"

They were very excited at this moment. Since just beyond the wall, lay a paradise they had long yearned for.

Steven scoffed at their words.

"You're crazy! The house is mine, yet you act like the owners distributing it."

"If you have the guts, go ahead and try. Let's see if you can break in!"

As he spoke, Steven was not idle.

He had loaded the bullets into his gun and held a crossbow in his hand.

The hunt was about to begin.

Through the surveillance, he could clearly see everything outside, even hearing their whispered conversations.

Larry and the others gathered, discussing their next move.

Among them, the most timid Zachary Flores nervously asked, "What should we do? Louis is dead now, and no one can unlock it. Shouldn't we retreat? What if we attract Andrew's attention?"

But Larry cursed, "What are you afraid of! This is the 24th floor; even Andrew would be exhausted climbing up here. If they want to kill us, they would start with the lower floors first."

Grace said solemnly, "Steven is indeed not easy to deal with. He seems to have been prepared as if he knew the end of the world was coming, fully equipped."
