Chapter 397 The Guinea Pig
After listening to Jordan's words, Steven cursed inwardly.
The people of the Snowfall Cult had really thought this through.
What they were saying was essentially that they would sit on the sidelines, wait for Steven and the other major bases to fight it out, and then jump into the fray!
Moreover, whether they would intervene or not would depend on the strength Steven and his allies displayed.
If Steven and his team were quickly defeated by the coalition, the Snowfall Cult would pretend nothing had happened.
And Steven had no way to refuse.
Because, compared to an enemy, he would naturally choose a potential ally.
"I understand. If what you're offering actually works, I'll consider your deal." Steven decided to test the Frostheart first before committing.
Jordan grinned, "I'm sure you won't regret it! And since we've shown our sincerity, Mr. Rogers, how about you show us yours?"
Steven sneered and retorted, "We're fighting the hardest battles, what more do you want?"
Jordan quickly waved his hand. "You've got it all wrong. We're not asking for supplies. All we want is your permission for the Snowfall Cult to preach in your territory once this war's over. For us, sharing the Snow God's grace with more souls is everything."
Steven muttered to himself, "Preaching? That really fits the style of a cult."
Steven had no objections to this.
As long as it didn't harm his interests, he couldn't care less what others did.
To live an easy life, the key is to mind your own business.
And given his personality, he had no time to manage everyone in the West Mountain and Eternal River regions.
So he said, "As long as we can successfully repel the enemy, your condition is acceptable."
Jordan looked pleased, spouted some polite fluff, and then took off.
At this moment, Steven also gained some clarity.
He had initially thought that after defeating the West Mountain Base, he would become a target for other forces.
But now it seemed that he had become the center of a power struggle.
However, this also allowed him to understand the operating styles of the four major forces.
Frostwood Base was steady and cautious, not keen on expansion. Probably because their leader, Sebastian, was some old-school steelworker who played it safe.
The Snowfall Cult? Don't let their low-key vibe fool you—they were hungry and had big plans.
As for Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base? Those guys were all about expanding their turf, no questions asked. The rest? Still a mystery.
This was related to their leader, Sebastian, who was a conservative steelworker.
The Snowfall Cult seemed weak but had great growth potential and ambition.
Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base were the most eager to expand, with other details yet to be known.
"Right now, Frostwood Base is sitting on the fence, and we might keep them out of this mess. The Snowfall Cult's itching to team up with me, ditching the others. Things are heating up!" Steven's lips twisted into a sly grin.
Although he couldn't fully trust these two forces, as long as the benefits were right, it would be easy to make them betray Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base.
At that time, it wouldn't be four forces ganging up on Steven.
Instead, Steven would be lying in wait, coordinating with undercover agents to deliver a heavy blow!
But for now, Steven was most interested in those two Frosthearts.
Earl said, "Captain, what should we do with this thing?"
He held the small wooden box nervously, afraid it might contain a bomb.
Steven said, "Don't worry, bring it over here to the door."
Earl carefully carried the small wooden box to the door.
Steven directly stored it in the extradimensional space.
Even if it was a spy device or an explosive, it could be well-handled in the extradimensional space.
Steven opened the wooden box and found nothing unusual.
He only saw two white spherical crystals emitting wisps of cold air, occasionally wriggling slightly.
"So this is the Frostheart, huh?" Steven muttered, zoning out as he stared at it.
If all four major bases were using it, that pretty much sealed the deal—it was legit.
No way those guys would mess with something sketchy. They weren't idiots.
Plus, Steven had seen Chase pop it like it was no big deal. No weird vibes, nothing.
"Could Natasha's Frostheart really be a simple key to unlocking Supernatural abilities?" Steven muttered, then let out a bitter chuckle. "Yeah, right. Like that's even possible. If the big four bases were using it, maybe I'd buy it. But Jordan gave it to Chase. In this hellscape, everyone's scrambling to get stronger just to stay alive. Who would be selfless enough to help others?"
There might be truly selfless people in this world.
But given the nature of the Snowfall Cult, Steven would never believe it!
"Even if you are truly selfless, I don't believe it."
Steven's principle was very simple.
He would always be suspicious of anyone and anything other than himself.
He never liked taking risks.
However, the two Frosthearts had the potential to create two Psychics.
Such a huge temptation was hard for him to ignore.
As Steven pondered, he felt several intense gazes on him.
Steven sensed the change in the atmosphere around him and looked up.
He saw Elinor, Nora, and Aubrey looking at him with eyes full of anticipation.
Everyone had heard Steven and Earl's conversation and knew about the Frostheart.
These three women had no Supernatural abilities, so they could only do logistical work in the shelter.
Especially Nora, whose eyes were filled with the most intense desire.
Compared to the other women, she was the least useful.
She had basically become a housekeeper in the shelter, responsible for chores and helping Steven relieve stress.
She was the most eager to get the Frostheart and become a Psychic.
On the other hand, Cindy, also an ordinary person, seemed much calmer, with no visible change in her eyes.
With Cindy's intelligence, she could naturally think of the potential unknown side effects of the Frostheart.
Unable to contain themselves, Nora was the first to speak, "Steven, should we use those two Frosthearts?"
Her inquiry was filled with caution and humility.
She was worried she wasn't qualified to use such a good thing.
Aubrey bit her lip, looking a bit embarrassed to speak, but her eyes remained eager.
Steven looked at them, already having an idea in his mind.
Since they had obtained this thing, it would be a waste not to use it.
But he wasn't comfortable using it on his important partners.
So, someone needed to be the guinea pig.
