Chapter 78 Neighbors Seeking Protection
Owen thought he was clever, killing many people in Building 25 to force Steven out.
If this were a movie with a kind-hearted protagonist, they would definitely be unable to hold back and would step out to negotiate with Owen.
But unfortunately, Steven not only didn't feel guilty but was actually quite pleased.
His goal was to have Owen kill a few more neighbors to create panic.
So that these neighbors would have no choice but to beg him for help.
Sure enough, just two days later, the neighbors couldn't take it anymore.
They saw the blood-written message Owen left before he left and unanimously believed that only Steven facing Owen could solve the current problem.
So, everyone in the group wanted to contact Steven, and his private messages and voice calls were endless.
He opened the group chat to see the neighbors' reactions.
"Steven, you caused this mess, you need to solve it! The Rapids gang was brought here by you, and you killed them, it has nothing to do with us."
"Exactly, you can't expect us to bear this cost for you, right?"
"They said as long as you don't come out, they won't stop killing. Steven, if you have any conscience, you should resolve this matter yourself!"
"Can you really bear to watch everyone die because of you?"
Seeing these messages, Steven laughed.
He wasn't too angry because he knew these neighbors' personalities very well.
He casually sent a few voice messages in the group. "It's not like I invited them here. They came to kill me, and I fought back. Why is it suddenly my fault?"
"You guys can't resist them yourselves, and that has nothing to do with me."
"You also said that group is too dangerous. In that case, I definitely won't go out. My house is much safer!"
After saying that, Steven even sent a smiling emoji.
This really infuriated the neighbors in the building.
"Steven! You're safe, but what about us?"
"Aren't you putting us all in danger?"
"You brought them here, why should we face them for you? Do you have any conscience?"
Faced with the neighbors' accusations, Steven burst out laughing.
He knew very well how shameless these people could be.
He sneered and mocked, "Like I said, you have nothing to do with me."
"Don't talk to me about conscience. When my home was attacked, which of your families didn't join in?"
"It's only because I'm magnanimous that I didn't grab a gun and kill you all! And now, you think you can talk to me about conscience?"
He said in a sinister tone, "Do you really think I don't dare to kill you?"
Steven's last sentence left many people speechless.
They suddenly realized that Steven was also a very ruthless person.
How did Andrew die? He was frozen into an ice block and then shattered!
That was Steven's doing!
He stopped talking and sent a message to Henry.
Steven: [Mr. Garcia, it's your turn to step up!]
Henry replied, "Don't worry, and leave it to me!"
In the homeowners group, the owners were left bewildered by Steven's scolding.
The breakdown in negotiations meant that they would still have to face the Rapids gang, who could come in to kill at any moment!
With most of the men in Building 25 dead or injured, the only ones left with any fighting ability were Steven and Henry.
They said, "What do we do now? We thought we could survive after Andrew died. But the Rapids gang is even more brutal!"
Andrew killed to establish dominance and for food.
But Owen and his crew killed for revenge, killing anyone they saw without considering anything else.
"Are we really just waiting to die?"
"Damn it, why has the world become like this? Is a barbaric society the norm now?"
"The snowstorm won't end anytime soon, and we'll all perish in it."
Many people fell into deep despair, thinking they wouldn't survive for much longer.
At this moment, the usually quiet Henry suddenly appeared.
He stated, "Everyone, don't panic. The Rapids gang only has about twenty people. If we unite, we can fight them!"
Henry's appearance brought hope to many people's eyes.
After all, this retired soldier always gave off a reliable and down-to-earth vibe!
"Mr. Garcia, thank goodness you're here!"
"You haven't spoken much lately, I thought you were dead too."
"Great, with Mr. Garcia here, our safety is assured!"
"Mr. Garcia, tell us what to do! We'll fully support you!"
Seeing the neighbors' messages, Henry couldn't help but twitch his eyelids.
He thought, 'Fully support me?
So, do you still want me to do all the work while you watch from behind?'
He was very disappointed.
Henry said, "It's no use relying on just me!"
But they replied, "Our supplies are also running out. I haven't eaten for days, and I'm too hungry to have any strength."
"Everyone's situation should be similar to mine. In this state, how can I fight the Rapids gang?"
Some neighbors remained silent.
Some of them actually had pretty good meals recently, eating roasted meat.
Once growing numb to their cannibalistic behavior, roasted meat actually tasted pretty good for them.
"Mr. Garcia, what should we do then? Everyone is short on food, we can't help you."
They were just saying they supported him, but now they were unwilling to share even a bit of food.
"Do you have any suggestions? We'll listen to you."
Here they go again, saying nice things.
Henry said, "For us in this building to fight against the others, we can only rely on Steven!"
"Steven has a lot of weapons at home, and he eats well every day, so he has the strength."
"He's the best choice to lead us!"
Everyone was stunned.
They had just angered Steven, and now they wanted him to lead them. Was that even possible?
So they uttered, "But Steven just told us to fend for ourselves."
"He won't leave his house, and we can't get him out."
"However, if he could lead us, that would indeed be the best!"
They thought Steven was hateful, but he was indeed very powerful.
Half of the people in the building were killed by him.
Even the vicious Andrew was shattered into pieces by Steven!
Henry said, "Alright, I'll go talk to him and see if I can persuade him."
Everyone quickly said, "Mr. Garcia, we're counting on you!"
