Chapter 44 Why Should I Give in Charity

The ending behind Annie, although not witnessed by everyone, can be guessed.

What could be the outcome for a girl who falls into the hands of a pack of wolves?

Even if Andrew spared her life, she lost all her resources for survival and was left waiting for death.

However, there wasn't much grief in everyone's hearts; instead, a collective sigh of relief was breathed.

At least Annie could feed Andrew and the others for a while.

But even so, this served as a warning to other residents.

If things continued this way, they might not live much longer.

One afternoon, Steven found himself suddenly being pulled into a chat group.

He chuckled silently; in this unstable environment, people's suspicions were growing, and small groups were forming more frequently.

It seemed like banding together made them feel stronger.

Steven glanced at the members in the group, realizing there were only six or seven people.

Paul, Alice, and Ivy were there, along with a few other neighbors.

Steven furrowed his brows slightly, unsure of their intentions.

Soon enough, someone approached him.

Alice: "@Steven, it's too dangerous outside now. Andrew and his group will come for us sooner or later. We must unite to survive."

Steven replied nonchalantly, "I'm fine on my own right now."

Ivy chimed in, "That won't do. You're alone, while Andrew has five or six people and guns! So, you're not safe."

Steven smirked, "Why don't you ask Andrew who broke his leg? He hasn't dared to retaliate yet because he knows I'm not someone to mess with."

Steven asked, "So, what do you all suggest?"

Alice quickly responded, "We're scattered in different places, which is dangerous. So, we've decided to move in together, creating a stronger force against Andrew."

Steven chuckled, "You think gathering together will make you immune to Andrew's guns?"

Ridiculous. If numbers truly mattered, with fifty households in this building, over a hundred people could easily crush Andrew to death.

They were all cowards, seeking solace in each other's company.

Another person in the group spoke up, Larry Price, whom Steven remembered as a finance professional.

Larry explained, "With more people, at least they'll hesitate. We can barricade ourselves together and be safe from their intrusion."

He continued, "But right now, what we lack is a good stronghold."

Alice added, "Steven, your place has a balcony and a sturdy security door, perfect for standing up against Andrew."

"So, we hope you can join our team to fight against Andrew!"

At this point, Steven understood.

Alice must have informed them about the amenities at his place.

Most likely, they already knew about Steven's perfect insulation system and abundant food supplies.

Steven sneered.

Their intentions were too obvious!

Steven bluntly stated, "I don't need that, thanks. I'm quite comfortable on my own. If you want to live together, find your own place!"

Who knew who was the devil and who was human at this point? Wasn't that inviting danger upon oneself?

Moreover, Steven didn't owe them anything. Why should he comply?

After being rejected by Steven, the group members were clearly displeased.

Larry uttered, "Steven, we are all in danger now. You can't be so short-sighted! Only by sticking together can we survive!"

Another member, Grace, added, "We chose your place only because your floor has a balcony, convenient for collecting snow water. We can protect you too!"

Steven's smile twisted.

Do they know how I live now?

Protect me? How shameless!

Alice, tucked under her covers, pursed her lips before starting to scold.

She knew Steven disliked her and wouldn't let her in.

Hence, she used the group to morally pressure Steven.

She believed that human lives were the most important, and even if she and Ivy, Paul, and others had treated him poorly, Steven should be more generous.

Ivy said, "Steven, okay, I admit we are asking for your help. But think about it, by letting us take shelter in your home, you can save seven or eight lives!"

"Can you bear to watch us being killed by Andrew? We've been friends and neighbors for so many years!"

Steven indeed knew all seven or eight people, with some having good relationships with him, including a colleague.

They all spoke up, asking Steven to consider their past relationships and let them in.

Unfortunately, after experiencing persecution and death in the past life, Steven was no longer the soft-hearted guy he used to be.

Those who betrayed him before were mostly in this group as well.

In this doomsday scenario, what was there to talk about humanity?

Surviving on his own was the only right choice!

So, he said, "At this point, everyone is on their own. You have no value to me, so why should I protect you?"

Afterward, Steven chose to leave the group.

Dreaming of using him, they were out of their minds!

Without morals, he wouldn't be coerced.

After chatting, Steven took out a box of potato chips from The extradimensional space.

He went to the window, sat on the soft recliner, ate his chips, and admired the snowy scenery outside.

Ignoring the extreme cold, Steven thought the snowscape was truly beautiful.

At that moment, he suddenly saw a flickering black dot on the 18th floor ahead, followed by a despairing scream.

Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a person falling from the sky.

In an instant, the person sank deep into the snow, approximately 25 feet.

With temperatures well below zero, the person was undoubtedly doomed to die in the thick snow.

It seemed like the situation in other units was similar to theirs.

People were faced with a situation of dwindling resources, leading to widespread competition for supplies, even escalating to violent acts of killing and looting.

Wherever there were people, things were spiraling towards hell.

Eating his chips, Steven contemplated the future.

It appeared that besides watching out for their neighbors in the building, he needed to be more cautious of external survivors.

In this doomsday scenario, anything could happen.
