Chapter 275 Henry Wanted to Help

Steven tried to calm everyone down, saying, "Hey, no need to stress. The underground defenses are way tougher than the floors above. They won't be able to get to us anytime soon."

He added with a grin, "I bet they're running low on explosives, so their attacks should fizzle out soon. And next time they try something, I've got a plan."

His smile really put everyone at ease.

But Steven kept quiet about the Extradimensional Space.

His powers were a secret, and he wasn't about to spill the beans unless he absolutely had to.

Steven hung out in the basement for a while, but there were no more attacks.

No explosions, not even gunfire.

He was pretty sure they were out of explosives.

And considering the distance from the Estate to the West Mountain Base was over 30 miles, hauling back thousands of pounds of explosives would take them most of the day.

Steven lounged on the living room sofa, keeping an eye on things through the surveillance system, while asking Nora to whip up some food to recharge his energy.

His supernatural abilities ran on food. With his Dimension Door busted, he needed to use his powers to fix it, which meant he had to eat a ton.

Another thing to keep an eye on was the external surveillance.

After that huge explosion, a bunch of nearby villas were turned to rubble, and most of the surveillance systems were toast.

Luckily, most of the cameras built into the shelter's walls were still working fine.

The explosion didn't mess up the walls too much, so Steven still had a good view.

This way, the other side couldn't completely blind him.

Steven stared at the hundreds of surveillance screens, his eyes locked on the low hill. "If you come at me again, I won't hold back next time."

Now that he had a good idea of what they were up to, Steven was ready to strike back!

Nora brought over a ton of food, and Elinor started massaging his shoulders to help him relax.

At this point, the whole base's safety was on Steven's shoulders.

The women were getting more and more attentive to him.

Steven pulled out his phone and shot a message to Earl, asking about the troops in Cox Town.

Earl replied pretty quickly.

Earl: [Captain Rogers, that explosion was insane! It sounded like it leveled the whole Emerald Estate!]

Earl: [I'm so glad you're okay, what a relief!]

Earl: [A bunch of soldiers have come back. I saw some folks leaving the village, heading west.]

Seeing Earl's message, Steven knew he was right—they'd gone back for more explosives.

Steven: [What are the others up to?]

Earl: [What else? They're back to chill! Damn, it looks like they're planning to stay for a while. As soon as they got back, they started demanding food and drinks.]

Earl's complaints made Steven chuckle.

If his shelter held out long enough, the ones who'd really suffer would be everyone in Cox Town.

Since the town had already been turned into a base by the West Mountain warriors.

And they expected everyone in Cox Town to take care of these sixty or so people.

Steven didn't feel bad for them; in fact, he was kind of curious to see if they'd end up fighting among themselves.

"Good, keep feeding me info," Steven sent the voice message to Earl.

Earl, sounding a bit worried, replied, "Captain Rogers, their troops are pretty tough, and they've got a few psychics. Can you handle it?"

"Absolutely," Steven said confidently. "I've got their attack methods all figured out."

Steven was especially glad he'd taken out that wall-passing Brittany that night. If he hadn't, his supposedly impenetrable shelter would be a joke.

As for the other psychics, no matter how strong they were, they didn't really scare him.

'Can you be stronger than 1,100 pounds of TNT? I'm not coming out to fight you, so who cares how strong you are? If you've got the guts, come in!' Steven thought, feeling pretty relaxed.

He reminded Earl again, "Earl, Cox Town isn't safe. Always be on guard against those people."

"If you ever feel like you're in danger, come to me anytime. I'll protect you!"

Steven didn't want to lose such a useful and loyal ally like Earl.

Plus, having another psychic around would boost Steven's combat strength.

If they ever had to face the enemy head-on, Earl's abilities would definitely make a difference.

Earl nodded, touched. "Thanks, Captain Rogers! If that day ever comes, I'll definitely come to you."

In other words, not now.

Earl still had someone he cared about—Julia, the girl he'd only met a few times but considered his first love.

"That's your call!" Steven didn't push him; it was up to Earl to decide.

They wrapped up their conversation.

Steven kept eating, enjoying the company of the two beauties beside him.

After a bit, he got a call from Henry.

Henry had heard the explosion from afar and was calling to check on Steven.

Steven smiled. Henry was one of the few people he really trusted; they'd been through a lot together and had a strong bond.

Steven didn't hold back and told Henry that the West Mountain Base was attacking his shelter.

"What? Why are they attacking you?" Henry was furious. "Aren't they supposed to protect us?"

As a veteran, Henry was outraged to hear that troops were attacking Steven.

Steven smiled faintly and said, "Henry, they're not like you were back then. The apocalypse changes a lot of things. Survivors are just armed groups now, loyal only to their own organizations. You get it?"

"Apart from stricter discipline and their pre-apocalypse official backgrounds, they're no different from the Rapids gang or Crazy Wolf Gang we took down back then. Everyone's fighting to survive, which means competing for resources and sometimes killing. I'm used to it," Steven said casually.

Henry went quiet, clearly shaken by this.

After a moment, he said firmly, "Steven, wait for me. I'm coming over! I need to be there to help you!"
