Chapter 483 Before the Great Battle Erupts

When Steven and his crew were about to check out the abandoned building next to the church, a bunch of Psychics stopped them in their tracks.

These guys were dead serious, not letting Steven and his friends get anywhere near the place.

The more they acted all secretive, the more Steven's curiosity was piqued.

But he didn't want to stir up any trouble just because he was curious, so he grinned and said, "Alright, I'll find somewhere else!"

This was a commercial district with tons of high-rise buildings, so switching to another one wasn't a big deal.

Still, this whole thing really got Steven's interest going. He loved digging up info on people. It could be the Achilles heel.

Steven decided to check out the building next door.

He climbed up to the rooftop, floor by floor, and by the time he got to the top, he was a bit winded from the thirty-plus floors.

If he didn't work out regularly, he might've been flat-out exhausted by now.

Take Earl, for example, who gave up halfway and decided to wait for the others on the stairs.

Henry chimed in, "Why don't you just use Double Dimension Door to zip through space? Climbing all these stairs is such a pain."

Steven chuckled and said, "I'll use it when there's no one around. Can't go showing off this ability too easily."

Henry sighed, "You're being way too cautious!"

Even though the big factions were working together now and weren't enemies, Steven's guard was still up.

Steven scoped out the area from the top floor of the building.

Turns out, he made the right call. From this vantage point, he could cover a 2-mile radius with his shots.

Within this range, except for a few blind spots right in front, he could hit pretty much any target.

At the very least, he could cover the area outside the four defensive fortifications.

"Alright, I'll hold down the fort from here!"

"You guys stay inside this building. No need to be on the front lines; we can adapt as needed."

After locking down the sniper positions, Steven and his crew headed back down from the rooftop and returned to the snowmobile to chill.

They needed to save their energy in a comfy spot to stay in top shape.

Compared to others, they had plenty of food, thanks to having a Psychic with spatial abilities on the team.

Even though the big factions brought food, it was mostly military rations or canned stuff.

They could melt snow for water and heat it up with thermite to eat.

As for the more than five thousand followers of the Snowfall Cult, their food situation was even worse. Many were eating rat meat and had to be super frugal.

After running into Steven, Chase quickly took off.

On his way back, he was feeling uneasy, torn about whether to spill the beans to Steven. Maybe he could get Steven  to help his family out.

But after thinking it over, he scrapped the idea.

Steven wasn't exactly a selfless guy. He wouldn't take them in just out of the goodness of his heart.

When Chase got home, Delbert's physical injuries had healed, but he was still messed up mentally.

The once cheerful Delbert was now down in the dumps. He holed up in the tent, not letting anyone in.

He barely ate even when food was brought to him.

Chase and his wife, Dione, were really worried.

When Chase got home, he saw Dione looking all stressed out, and the room reeked of urine.

Chase walked over and quietly asked, "Did he have an accident in the tent?"

Dione quickly pulled him aside and whispered, "He... he can't even go to the bathroom properly now."

Chase sighed, "At this point, just being alive is good enough. I don't expect him to carry on the family name. I just hope he can get through this."

Dione frowned. "That's easy for you to say."

As they were talking, a familiar priest walked in.

Chase quickly went to greet him. "Joe, what brings you here?"

The priest's name was Joe Darden, an ordinary Psychic in the Snowfall Cult.

Chase was pretty sociable, so he had made some friends after joining the cult, including Joe.

Joe glanced at the tent, knowing what Delbert had been through recently.

But he ignored the smell of urine.

After being in this place for so long, he kind of got used to the smells.

Not to mention the feces, urine, and farts, just opening someone's clothes would reveal a foul odor.

In the Snowfall Cult, except for a few high-ranking members, most people hadn't bathed in almost half a year.

Joe said to Chase, "A battle is about to start. You can see the commotion outside; it won't be safe for a while."

"Your ability isn't combat-related. The leader asked me to inform you to take your family and hide under the church."

Chase frowned upon hearing this. "This battle seems to be extremely brutal. Will we... survive?"

Joe shook his head, unable to give an answer. "Leave it to fate. For now, living one more day is a blessing."

After Joe left, Chase looked at the tent where Delbert was and felt conflicted.

Now, whenever Delbert heard the word "leader," he would go into a frenzy. Taking him to the church might cause trouble.

But with danger imminent, not going to the church would jeopardize the family's safety.

Helplessly, Chase and Dione discussed it and then went to persuade Delbert to leave and take refuge in the church.

"Delbert, there's going to be a battle here soon! It's very unsafe. Zombies could come at any time! Come with us!"

But inside the tent, Delbert had no reaction. When he heard about going to the church, he suddenly screamed like a wounded animal.

"I'm not going! Go, all of you go!"

Chase and Dione looked distressed but helpless.

As they were struggling to persuade Delbert, a girl's figure appeared at the door.

It was Delbert's girlfriend, Clio.

"Let me try!" Clio said firmly.

Chase and Dione's faces didn't look good when they saw Clio.

If it weren't for Clio, Delbert wouldn't have had been castrated by Natasha.

But they also knew that it wasn't entirely Clio's fault. Although the incident started because of her, it couldn't be said that she was to blame.

And inside the tent, Delbert suddenly stopped crying when he heard Clio's voice.

Chase and Dione exchanged a glance, then walked over and earnestly said to Clio, "Please persuade Delbert to take refuge in the church!"

"It's very dangerous outside now; we can't stay here any longer. We can go together then, do you understand?"
