Chapter 187 West Mountain Base
The widespread news was noticed by some observant individuals.
They keenly felt that these messages were deliberately hiding something.
However, with hundreds of messages, they had no way to verify each one, so most people had to give up.
But, some people managed to extract useful information by analyzing the data.
Thirty-two miles west of Emerald Estate lied the West Mountain District. The name West Mountain District came from a range of mountains in the area.
Since the 1960s, the Starlight City government had been building shelters in various locations. The initial purpose was for air defense, even against nuclear attacks.
According to relevant data, Starlight City now hada total of 356 shelters.
However, the vast majority of these shelters were simple air-raid shelters and underground emergency shelters. They did not contain large amounts of food, and their construction was relatively basic.
These were meant for ordinary city residents.
Where there were ordinary shelters, there would naturally be military and special shelters reserved for high-ranking officials.
These places, whether in terms of security level or material supply, far exceeded ordinary shelters.
656 feet underground in West Mountain, there was such a shelter.
Although the entire West Mountain was covered in snow, a large number of people still lived underground.
This underground facility was exceptionally large, with enough space to accommodate tens of thousands of people, making it a grand underground city.
The entire structure was made of the sturdiest alloy, like an underground space fortress.
At this moment, in the office of the leader of the West Mountain organization, a middle-aged man in a gray suit was reading the documents in his hand behind the desk.
A cup of coffee was placed beside him, and the room was comfortably warm, with no hint of cold.
The entire room was decorated in a very vintage style, and even the bookshelves were centuries old.
He was a former high-ranking official of Starlight City, now the leader of the West Mountain organization, Peter Martin.
Peter was flipping through the documents in his hand, occasionally glancing at the computer screen on his desk.
"Is the base's energy problem still unresolved?" he told to himself.
"Electricity supply can be generated by the people from the Fourth Life Warehouse. But without a large amount of fossil fuel, the troops can only travel on foot or by dog sled. And relying solely on human power to generate electricity is far from enough to meet the base's future power needs," he muttered and quickly came up with a solution.
He picked up the pen beside him and wrote his approval on the document.
Peter: [Increase the Fourth Life Warehouse's working hours. They must work 12 hours a day to earn nutrient solutions. Additionally, cut off their power for 6 hours every night. This will reduce their phone usage and encourage them to rest early, avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.]
After signing, Peter placed the document beside him, where there was already a thick stack of papers.
At this moment, his secretary, Lisa Grant, knocked and entered, placing a report in front of him. "Mr. Martin, we have results regarding the previously received information."
"Most of the messages were sent from Villa 101 in the Eternal River District's Emerald Estate."
Lisa added, "However, one message came from the phone of Dawson, the chairman of Cloud Technology Limited Company, located at Villa 302 in Emerald Estate."
Peter nonchalantly took the report. "Tell me about the Steven mentioned in this message."
The report was too lengthy for him to read through.
But upon hearing Dawson's name, he took a serious look at that particular message.
Lisa relayed Steven's information to Peter word for word.
Upon learning that Steven had been living in Starlight City and was merely a small manager at a Walmart warehouse, Peter immediately turned uninterested.
He asserted with conviction, "Just a small warehouse manager. He couldn't possibly be the mastermind behind this. Even if he gained some benefits, it wouldn't be much."
"He probably embezzled some supplies during his tenure and has been living off those stolen goods until now!" he added.
Lisa quickly nodded and smiled, "Mr. Martin, you're right. I also believe a small manager couldn't have the capability to empty an entire warehouse!"
Peter smiled slightly, with an expression of seeing through everything. "This is all a conspiracy by Star Country. They must have sensed something was wrong before the gamma rays arrived and started gathering supplies."
"But resorting to paranormal events is just self-deception!" he said.
Lisa complimented with a smile, "How could they know that their ridiculous actions had already been seen through by you?"
"So, do we still need to investigate this Steven?" Lisa asked.
Peter tapped his fingers on the desk, thought for a moment, and said, "Send a few people to check it out later! We haven't searched the Mississippi River area yet. Maybe we can find some supplies!"
Lisa nodded. "Yes, I'll arrange for some people to investigate right away!"
Peter didn't pay much attention to such trivial matters.
Meanwhile, Lisa went to arrange for people to go out and investigate.
In Cox Village of Cox Town, the villagers here also received those hundreds of messages.
Cut off from the relentless churn of information that characterized the outside world, the villagers dismissed the cryptic warnings as spam, nothing more than digital noise.
Instead, the constant message alerts annoyed them greatly.
Only one person took it seriously, and that was Earl, the Ice and Snow Psychic, who held the highest combat power in Cox Village.
After the last battle with Steven, Earl explained Steven's terrifying strength to the villagers.
Although the villagers were unhappy about the tragic death of their kin, out of fear of Steven, the village chief, Jared, decided to temporarily let the matter rest.
Life in Cox Village returned to normal, relying on the stockpiled vegetables, grains, and fishing on the ice to get by. At least they didn't have to worry about food.
But Earl, the nerd, was deeply affected by his failure.
'Shouldn't I be God's favored son, possessing top-tier supernatural abilities and winning countless beauties?'
'Why do I have to run away when I encounter that person?'
The frustration, coupled with the villagers' disappointment in him, made the sensitive nerd Earl feel very uncomfortable.
So, when he received a large number of messages and found the term Emerald Estate among them, he vaguely felt that this might be related to the mysterious person who scared him away that day.
"If I investigate these messages, will I find some useful information?" he asked himself.
As a long-time nerd, Earl had some knowledge of computers.
Anyway, he had nothing else to do, and he limited himself to a maximum of five or six times of self-pleasure a day as a reward. He was a very disciplined person.
So, in his spare time, Earl began to analyze those messages.
