Chapter 445 Infusion

The zombie horde and rat swarm this time were way bigger than before.

The Zombie King was seriously pissed. This was a clear warning to Steven and his crew, and also a way to test them out.

With enough zombies, Steven and his team couldn't wipe them all out in one go.

That way, some zombies would always survive and report back to the Zombie King about Steven's combat tactics.

Over time, the Zombie King would get smarter, and his zombies would become even tougher.

Steven couldn't worry about all that right now.

If they wanted to learn, let them. He was planning to go on the offensive soon anyway.

The four of them, plus a cat, started a massive cleanup of the zombie horde and rat swarm.

On their home turf, facing just regular zombies and giant rats, Steven and his team felt no pressure.

Half an hour later, the rat swarm was almost completely wiped out.

More than half of the zombie horde was dead, and the rest were scattering and fleeing back towards Floral Springs Subway Station.

"Just two more days!" Steven said coldly.

This time, he could tell the zombies were getting better at countering their combat techniques.

They weren't bunching up to avoid getting torched by flamethrowers. They were also avoiding Steven's Double Dimension Door.

And based on each person's abilities, they were using different attack methods.

For example, when facing Steven and Earl, they would swarm them with a ton of zombies.

Because neither Steven nor Earl were great at close combat.

And when facing Lily, Henry, and Fluffy, they would send a bunch of giant rats to attack from the ground, making it hard for the two to fully use their martial skills and strength.

These zombies were acting like intelligent creatures!

Steven felt a bit gloomy at such a huge zombie horde and such a smart and constantly evolving Zombie King.

And it wasn't just his side dealing with them in Starlight City.

Who knew how many more were out there in different places?

How were they born? And how many Zombie Kings were there?

These were all unknowns.

But for now, Steven could only deal with his own problems first.

As for the crises faced by other forces, they would have to handle them on their own.

For Steven, the ideal situation was for the other bases to be wiped out while the zombie hordes were also dealt with.

This kind of mutual destruction was what Steven most wanted to see.

After clearing out the zombie horde and rat swarm, Steven turned around and came to the edge of the shelter.

He reached out and touched the hard black metal wall of the shelter. He could actually feel various depths of scratches on it, with the deepest one about 0.004 inches deep.

Steven couldn't help but say, "If we keep letting these giant rats attack the shelter, the outer wall will be breached in at most two years."

Luckily, Steven didn't hesitate at the time. After noticing something wrong with the zombie horde, he decisively led everyone deep into the subway.

Although that probe was somewhat dangerous, after witnessing the strength of the zombie horde and rat swarm deep in the subway, they were able to quickly find a way to solve the problem.

So as not to be gradually devoured by the Zombie King.

"Let's go back and prepare! This should all be over soon," Steven said to everyone.

...

Steven's situation was relatively good.

There were no casualties among the personnel, and the shelter did not suffer any substantial damage.

But the casualties of other forces were quite severe.

At first, no one took these suddenly appearing zombies seriously.

But later, everyone gradually discovered that their actions were becoming more and more regular, even appearing disciplined like an army.

They launched very fierce attacks on the weak points of various forces.

And when facing the strong defensive points of each force, these zombies would cleverly avoid them.

The big players took a heavy hit.

Silverlake Base had to ditch their port base and hide out on a giant ship at sea to dodge the zombie horde.

The port was just a temporary spot for them. Sure, leaving it meant losing all the supplies in those containers, but keeping the giant ship meant they could keep going long-term.

Emberwick Base and Frostwood Base weren't so lucky. They had to protect their lifelines—the steel mill and oil refinery. So, they beefed up their defenses and fought the zombies head-on.

But the Snowfall Cult had it the worst. Their defenses were too weak to hold off the zombies. They had to huddle together, cramming most of their members into buildings and setting up basic defenses outside.

They used stones, cars, wooden obstacles, and barbed wire. These things were more for peace of mind than actual defense because they didn't do much against the zombie horde.

Every day, they lost a ton of cult members. Luckily, they had a big enough population to keep going despite the losses.

One silver lining for the Snowfall Cult was the giant rats. They'd always been short on food, but these rats, as big as small cats and dogs, could feed a person for days once killed. They couldn't worry about the rats carrying viruses; survival came first.

Two days flew by.

In Steven's extradimensional space, the seawater had settled, leaving a bunch of white salt behind. Steven extracted the impure salts, making the water easier to freeze.

Now he could put his plan into action.

He found Aubrey, who had prepped dozens of barrels of coagulant and a ton of explosives.

Steven and his combat team left the shelter on snowmobiles. They didn't head straight to Floral Springs Subway Station but followed the subway line to the terminal at Tranquil Vale Town.

To freeze all the zombies and rats in the subway, they had to block all escape routes. Step one: destroy Tranquil Vale Town Station!

Blowing up a subway station didn't need a lot of explosives. They set them up, ran far away, and detonated them.

A distant explosion echoed, and the ground collapsed, burying the subway station under ice, snow, and soil.

Earl asked, "Steven, what if the Zombie King senses danger and escapes?"

Steven shook his head, not worried. "It'd be best if it escapes! My goal was never to kill the Zombie King. I just want to make sure there's no threat near the shelter. As long as it's not close, I don't care if it lives or dies."

Lily frowned, worried. "But if all the other human forces are wiped out and Starlight City is overrun by zombies and rats, can we really stay safe?"

As a teacher, Lily always thought ahead.

Steven laughed. "You're overthinking it. Our abilities are just enough to protect ourselves. The more you think, the more you'll fear. If we follow your thinking, maybe one day the whole Earth will be destroyed by the virus. What could we do then?"

He sighed. "Don't think so far ahead. Focus on our immediate environment. As for the rest, we'll go with the flow. We don't have the power to think on such a grand scale."
