Chapter 69 A Good Night's Sleep

That night was destined to be incredibly long.

Elinor got the warm room she wanted.

Now, for the first time since the apocalypse, she could finally sleep comfortably.

Steven locked the door from the outside, and he kept the only key.

Even though they had the most intimate physical relationship, he still adhered to his basic survival principles.

Even though Steven knew Elinor was a kind person, letting her stay and survive with him was already the most he could do.

In the short term, he couldn't relax his guard against her.

He took a shower first, then returned to the bedroom to rest.

He slept for half a day, and when he woke up, Steven felt refreshed, his eyes even brighter than usual.

Having a woman by his side added some fun to life; living alone all the time, he worried he might have a mental breakdown one day.

After all, humans were social animals.

But the premise was that Elinor had to be obedient and absolutely harmless.

Steven checked the surveillance and saw that Elinor was still sound asleep in bed.

She hadn't had a good rest for a long time, so she slept deeply and hadn't woken up yet.

Steven raised an eyebrow, got dressed, and went to wash up.

After finishing his morning routine, he went to the living room to prepare breakfast.

Steven took some food from the extradimensional space and placed it on the table.

Then, he went to Elinor's door and unlocked it.

Steven knocked on the door, "Come out and eat something!"

In fact, this gesture was unnecessary because Steven could see everything in the house clearly, but he still knocked out of politeness.

After all, if they were to get along in the long term, basic respect was necessary.

Elinor's soft and tired voice came through. "Okay, I'll be right there."

Steven went to the dining table, picked up a beef and cheese burger, and walked to the window while eating.

Overnight, the big block of ice next door had grown larger, covered in white snow, with the twisted shapes of ten bodies faintly visible inside.

Elinor walked out of the room and blushed slightly when she saw Steven.

As a medical doctor who graduated from a prestigious university, she had always been proud and indifferent to men.

That was why she had remained a virgin.

After all, people in high society valued such things greatly.

But she hadn't expected her first sexual experience to be neither with her husband nor her lover.

Instead, in the apocalypse, she used it as a means of survival, having sex with a man she wasn't very familiar with.

But looking at Steven's tall figure and his cold, rational, handsome face, she felt particularly at ease.

Women always had special feelings for their first man.

Steven liked Elinor quite a bit because she was beautiful, and no man would dislike a gorgeous woman with a great figure.

But he was far from falling in love with her.

Perhaps in the future, when he fully trusted her, he would gradually invest his feelings.

After all, living alone in the apocalypse was too exhausting; some emotional support was always needed.

Steven gestured to the food on the table for Elinor.

Elinor looked over and saw hot burgers, fried chicken, and fries.

These were things Steven had ordered in large quantities from KFC, McDonald's, and other fast-food restaurants before the apocalypse.

Due to the extradimensional space's preservation ability, they were still hot when taken out.

Elinor swallowed, her feet involuntarily moving her over to pick up a burger that she then devoured in big bites.

In the past, she had disdained fast food, but now it tasted so delicious that it made her want to cry.

In less than ten minutes, she had finished the pile of food.

Elinor lay back in her chair and let out a comfortable burp.

Seeing Steven's amused expression, she shyly covered her mouth, feeling embarrassed.

Steven didn't care about that.

He asked, "Are you done eating?"

Elinor tilted her head and seriously said, "I'm not full yet. But you can't eat too much at once, or it might cause gastroenteritis."

"So you're done eating? Come over and get to work."

Steven nodded toward the outside.

Elinor obediently walked over.

Steven took out two sets of cold-weather gear from the extradimensional space, and Elinor's eyes widened. Even though it wasn't the first time she had seen it, she still found it amazing.

Her determination to follow Steven grew stronger.

In the apocalypse, very few people could survive. Only by following powerful individuals could one increase their chances of survival.

Steven threw a set of cold-weather gear to Elinor for her to put on, and he put on a set himself.

"What are we going to do?" Elinor asked curiously.

Steven pointed to the block of ice on the balcony next door, "We're going to smash that block of ice!"

Elinor shivered.

The bodies of those people had already fused with the ice, and if they smashed the ice, their corpses would be torn apart.

"They're already dead, why do we need to do that?" Elinor asked.

Steven shrugged. "Maybe I simply hate them."

Seeing Elinor's surprised look, Steven smiled, "Almost everyone in this building wants to kill me and take my room and supplies."

"I have to do something to show them I'm not someone they can bully."

He smirked, "They used to think I was just a coward who stayed at home. Of course, I didn't care what they thought of me."

"But over time, it started to annoy me, so I need to give them a bit of a deterrent."

There was another reason Steven didn't mention, and he didn't bother to explain it to Elinor.

He was a vengeful person.

Andrew had tried to kill him multiple times, and Steven had a deep hatred for them.

Just freezing them to death was too merciful, in Steven's opinion.

Elinor seemed to realize something and pointed to her nose. "You're not going to make me do it again, are you?"

She was almost in tears.

It seemed she had been the one doing all the killing of Andrew and the others.

Now that Andrew and his group were dead, why was Steven still so scared?

Steven said seriously, "I need to be cautious!"

Of course, he had to be careful. What if he went over and she closed the window on him?

Although Steven's supplies were all in the extradimensional space, and he wasn't worried about starving, no one wanted to create more trouble for themselves.

Elinor rolled her eyes, feeling both amused and exasperated.

She silently complained; how could someone be so cautious!

She wasn't an idiot; why would she do something that had no benefit for her?

Steven made a please gesture and handed her a baseball bat.

Elinor noticed that when Steven handed her the bat, he was clearly in a defensive stance.

She was very annoyed and didn't agree with Steven's excessive caution.

But despite her reluctance, she still took the bat and climbed over the railing to the balcony next door.

Steven took out his phone and started recording.
