Chapter 16 Clara's Revenge Steven Starts Cursing Directly

Steven sat on the couch, yawning out of boredom.

While others were struggling to make ends meet, he was living more comfortably than in heaven.

His home had the perfect insulation system and an endless supply of fuel, ensuring his safe house maintained a constant, comfortable temperature throughout the year.

He didn't need to do anything next; all he had to do was ensure he lived each day happily.

On TV, nothing was interesting to watch at the moment.

Due to the extreme cold, all live broadcasts had been shut down.

After all, his favorite female livestreamers couldn't endure temperatures as low as negative 150 degrees Fahrenheit, let alone wear tank tops and dance.

If they did, Steven would have to give them a thumbs up and say, "You are a resilient person!"

He opened his extradimensional space, an area filled with gaming consoles and AAA games.

From PS5 to Switch and Xbox, there were hundreds of brand-new, unopened consoles, not to mention the tens of thousands of game cartridges he had.

Steven took out the latest PS5 and started playing games on the massive 77-inch Sony TV installed in his home.

He was playing the latest AAA action game of the year, "Devil May Cry 3."

Beside him were games like "Elden Ring," "The Witcher 3," and "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice."

If he wanted to pass the time, they were all excellent choices.

For those who found game lengths too short, there were games like "Civilization" and "Cities: Skylines," which consumed a lot of time and energy.

He no longer needed to worry about work and social interactions. This life was even more relaxing than before the apocalypse!

Being at home, Steven was only wearing pajamas, snacking and happily gaming.

After a while, his phone rang.

Steven picked it up and saw that Clara from the neighborhood committee had mentioned him in the group chat.

[Steven, the roads outside are blocked by heavy snow. Get your tools ready and come out to help clear the snow!]

Her tone was commanding.

Steven noticed that she was calling everyone out to clear the snow, but very few were responding.

Unexpectedly, she had directly reached out to him.

He looked at the heavy snow outside and found it covered almost the entire floor with 10 feet of snow, which was almost impossible to clear manually.

And Steven knew that this snow would last for at least another three months.

They were rushing out now when it was still snowing heavily.

Steven immediately refused, "It's so cold outside that I'll turn into an ice sculpture in no time. Even if I clear the snow, it should be after the snow stops."

Others chimed in with agreements.

[Yeah, it's over negative 158 degrees Fahrenheit outside. We'll get frostbite in no time if we go out.]

[We're not in the Arctic, and we don't even have proper cold-weather gear. How can we go out?]

Clara became impatient.

[What's with your attitude? Clearing the snow isn't just for me. It's for everyone!]

[You're all young and strong men. In times of disaster, not taking the initiative to help and just trying to avoid it won't solve anything.]

She pointed her finger at Steven, who was leading the opposition.

[Steven, I command you in the name of the neighborhood committee to go out and clear the snow!]

[Now is a time of crisis. We must unite and obey the organization's commands!]

[Anyone who dares to oppose me is opposing the leadership of the neighborhood committee! After the snow disaster is over, we will hold them accountable!"

Clara emphasized her identity as a neighborhood committee member once again.

Although the homeowners were angry, they were hesitant to argue back.

With the snow disaster just beginning, social order was still intact, and no one dared to disobey.

Even though the neighborhood committee members seemed to have little power due to their close ties with everyone, no one wanted to provoke them.

Everyone remained silent, unwilling to be the leader of the resistance.

But many hoped that Steven would speak up and refute Clara fiercely, representing everyone.

Steven knew what they were thinking, and a cold smile appeared. He felt nothing but disdain for them.

However, enduring it was impossible for him.

So, he decided to confront Clara directly.

Looking through the chat records, Steven noticed that the people Clara mentioned were usually obedient young residents in the neighborhood.

She had conveniently ignored the troublesome or influential figures.

For example, Andrew Jenkins from apartment 601 on the sixth floor was a well-known underworld figure with hundreds of subordinates.

And Frank Olson from apartment 802 on the eighth floor, whose father was a prominent developer in Starlight City and had connections in government offices.

Clara had not mentioned any of these individuals.

Steven directly mocked Clara for only bullying the weak and avoiding commanding the powerful, exposing her true nature, which embarrassed Clara.

She hadn't mentioned those tough individuals because she lacked the courage, and they wouldn't even acknowledge her.

Those tough individuals were always hard to deal with.

If Steven had always been this way, Clara wouldn't have asked him to clear the snow.

Feeling her dignity was being violated, Clara became agitated and sent several long voice messages in the group chat.

"Clearing the snow is a public service for everyone's benefit. Some people are nitpicking over trivial matters and lack a spirit of dedication!"

"These people are the cancer in our homeowners group!"

"If you don't want to do it, then don't. There are plenty of others willing to help! Everyone's awareness is much higher than yours."

"I'm not singling out anyone. I don't need to mention each one individually. I hope you understand and don't misunderstand!"

"If these defamatory remarks continue, I will involve the police!"

Clara's explanation seemed to worsen the situation.

Especially when she threatened to involve the police, Steven burst into laughter.

Some of the homeowners, who were already afraid, grabbed their tools and went out to clear the snow.

But at that moment, Steven wasn't afraid of her at all.

The police would never support her unreasonable behavior.

Besides, did she think all social institutions were functioning normally?
