Chapter 234 Adopting a Cat

Hearing Lily's name, everyone turned to look.

Warren quickly whispered, "Mrs. Evans, don't forget us!"

Lily hopped off her bike and said, "I'm Lily."

Lisa's eyes met Lily's.

Suddenly, Lisa smiled and walked over.

Everyone wondered why the high-ranking secretary was at the Fourth Life Chamber.

Lisa shook Lily's hand. "Hi, Mrs. Evans. I'm Mr. Martin's secretary, Lisa Grant. Our leader wants to meet you."

The workshop buzzed with excitement.

"Peter wants to meet her?"

"Is she about to rise to the top?"

The students were thrilled.

"Mrs. Evans..."

"Mrs. Evans..."

Lisa glanced around, and everyone went silent.

Lisa smiled and extended her hand. "Please follow me!"

Lily was curious about Peter and happy to leave the place.

She nodded and followed Lisa out.

After they left, a soldier called out two more names.

"Elijah, Mark Bryant. Come over here!"

The two students were excited, quickly got off their bikes, and ran over, envied by the others.

The soldiers took them away from the power plant too.

Lisa led Lily through the underground space of the West Mountain Base to Peter's office.

Peter, a sharp-looking man in his fifties with neatly combed gray hair, greeted Lily with a smile.

His warm smile brought a wave of relief to Lily, a feeling she hadn't experienced in ages.

Taking care of students at Innovation Academy had drained her; she needed someone to support her too.

After talking, Lily was impressed by Peter's vision for the West Mountain Base and the structure of the four life warehouses.

"To preserve the continuity of The Astralium Kingdom's civilization and keep this base going, I hope you can help us, Mrs. Evans," Peter said sincerely.

Lily thought for a moment and nodded. "If there's anything I can do, just ask!"

Peter's smile widened. He called Lisa to arrange a place for Lily.

Lily was promoted from the Fourth Life Warehouse to the Second Life Warehouse! Here, there were single rooms, and the interior was like a high-end office building. The bright lights made you forget you were underground. There was also delicious food and unlimited hot water.

"This place isn't bad at all," Lily murmured, feeling she made the right choice.

Meanwhile, the students at the power plant were still waiting for her return.

At Emerald Estate, Steven's main task now was feeding the cat.

Fluffy was the first mutant animal he had seen.

Its powerful physique, needle-sharp fur, and innate combat abilities fascinated Steven.

Steven had already decided he had to make this Mutant Cat his pet. Animals were often more reliable than people.

If he built a good relationship with it, it would be the most trustworthy fighter!

Maybe because Steven had Earl stop its fight with Lily last time, Fluffy sensed Steven's goodwill and warmed up to him.

That afternoon, Steven was squatting by the door with a big cat bowl in front of him. It was loaded with cat treats, high-end cat food, and even two fresh fish.

Not far away, Fluffy had shrunk back to its normal size and was munching away happily.

No cat could resist such a feast—the ultimate stray cat trap.

Steven grinned and said, "Fluffy, I've been feeding you for a week now. You've eaten so much of my food, so from now on, you're my cat. Come home with me, okay?"

Fluffy looked up at Steven, squinted, and then went back to eating.

"If you come home with me, you can eat like this every day! The house is warm, with a fireplace. Look at that fire, burning so brightly. It's freezing outside, why stay here?" Steven coaxed gently.

After finishing the food, Fluffy sat cleaning its paws and fur.

Hearing Steven, it glanced through the glass at the fireplace inside. For the first time, it seemed hesitant.

Maybe it had followed the girl who fed it initially, but with intelligence far beyond ordinary animals, it realized Steven's home was really comfortable. Besides, Steven had been feeding it for a while and even treated its injuries.

To Fluffy, with no better place to go, following Steven seemed like a good choice.

Steven saw the longing for warmth in its eyes—cats aren't cold-resistant; they crave warmth, maybe because their ancestors lived in the deserts of Egypt.

Steven felt the moment was right, so he slowly walked towards the house, opening the door.

"Fluffy, want to come in and take a look? It's very comfortable inside!" Steven was as gentle as an old father.

Even Elinor and Nora felt jealous lately. Steven treated them nowhere near as well as he treated a cat!

But to Steven, animals were more trustworthy than people, and he could pamper them without any burden.

Fluffy tilted its head, licked its fur twice, and finally, with a turn of its eyes, raised its tail and cautiously approached.

A flicker of hope danced in Steven's eyes.

"There are more delicious things inside. Want to come in and try?" he continued saying as he lured the cat step by step into the house. And Fluffy followed him inside!

'Success!' Steven was overjoyed.

Once inside, Fluffy curiously looked around and then suddenly jumped onto the sofa!

It started scratching the expensive sofa worth tens of thousands of dollars with its claws.

Dirty paw prints were left on the floor and the sofa.

Steven, however, showed no sign of displeasure and instead generously encouraged, "Don't be shy, look around! This place is yours to enjoy."

Elinor said jealously, "It's a good thing this cat can't turn into a woman, otherwise, I wouldn't have any status in this household!"
