Chapter 384 Preparing for Battle

Lily's heart was a mix of emotions.

On one hand, she was quite pleased to know that Steven had special feelings for her.

On the other hand, Cindy's concerns made her worried.

She could sacrifice her own life, but she couldn't abandon her students.

Especially they were two of her favorite top students.

"I… I can't just think about myself!" Lily sighed, her resolve flickering.

She'd just been so sure about making things right—it'd feel wrong to backpedal now.

Cindy, knowing Lily inside and out, held her hand and said, "You'd die for them, so why not live for me and Aubrey? We need you, Ms. Evans," her eyes begging.

Aubrey quickly added, "Ms. Evans, we can't live without you! Think about it, Cindy and I are just ordinary people without any supernatural abilities. If we encounter any danger in the future, we need your protection."

Lily's resolve faltered. "But… I can't just sit back and watch them die!"

Cindy shot back, "They're still breathing, aren't they? And it's all thanks to you. So you can't die! We've still got some wiggle room with Emberwick Base. Just hang tight a little longer!"

After the students' earnest persuasion, Lily temporarily gave up her plan to fight Emberwick Base.

She sighed lightly, "Alright, this is the best we can do for now."

Cindy obediently nodded and finally broke into a smile.

After calming Lily down, Aubrey pushed Cindy out of her room.

Once outside, all the expressions on Cindy's face disappeared, replaced by an extreme calmness.

"Cindy, does Steven really like Ms. Evans?" Aubrey gossiped, leaning close to Cindy's ear.

"Nah, I made it up," Cindy smirked, her voice low. "Ms. Evans is the type who gets all flustered when someone's into her. How else were we gonna convince her to stick around?"

Aubrey gasped, "You're playing her!"

Cindy shrugged, "It's for her own good, that clueless woman." She paused, her tone turning serious. "But if she stays in the shelter, it's a win for us. Steven doesn't keep useless men around."

This statement made Aubrey's heart tremble.

In her impression, Steven had always been a gentle big brother.

But then she remembered their first meeting.

It was in the underground of Innovation Academy, buried in snow.

At that time, Steven's eyes had no warmth when he looked at her.

'Then I shall make myself more useful!' Aubrey thought, her lips curling into a slight pout as she said, "And honestly, I think Steven's kinda into me too."

Women always like to think things in a positive direction, especially when it involves a man they like.

Soon, Steven learned that they had calmed Lily down.

Steven felt a bit relieved.

He couldn't afford to lose Lily.

A big battle might soon break out between the shelter and Emberwick Base, Silverlake Base.

Lily, a powerful psychic, would be a great help.

"Great job, thank you for your efforts!" Steven smiled at the two girls.

He looked out the window, snow falling heavily, the courtyard covered in white, with tall snow walls standing around Emerald Estate like an unbreakable fortress.

"The medicine should be taking effect soon," he muttered in a low voice.

Emberwick Base.

After ending the call with Steven, Megan's smile grew even wider.

She'd caught it—behind his tough act, there was a flicker of desperation.

The way his voice shifted when Lily's students came up was dead giveaway.

What did that tell her?

First, Steven's shelter was hurting bad after the West Mountain Base fight. No way he's ready to tangle with Emberwick or Silverlake.

Second, those students were his Achilles' heel.

Now Megan had her in—a weakness she could squeeze for all it was worth.

Her goal? Snag most of West Mountain's old turf!

With that, Emberwick Base would rule Starlight City!

"According to those students, Steven has a few more psychics under him. If I can recruit them, it would greatly enhance the strength of Emberwick Base!"

The more Megan thought about it, the more excited she became.

Byron congratulated her, "With things as they are, they'll crack soon enough! We've gotta move fast and take out Steven's crew before someone else beats us to it!"

"No rush!" Megan waved her off, playing it safe. "We need to scope things out first before making a move. Don't forget, we've got more than just Steven to worry about. If we go all in on his shelter, the other three could hit our main base—and you know they're gunning for that refinery."

Byron said, "But the opportunity is fleeting. If we miss it, others might come to share this piece of meat."

Megan glanced at him, "I'd rather do nothing than make a mistake. Everyone is eyeing Emberwick Base now; any mistake, and we're dead!"

Byron quickly bowed his head, "Yes, I will follow your orders! What should we do next?"

Megan, hands behind her back, looked confident. "Since Steven's so hung up on those kids, send someone to rough them up and shoot the video to him. Meanwhile, get the intel on Steven's crew and their setup. We need the full picture before we make a move. Don't underestimate them—we can't afford to screw this up."

Byron gave a sharp nod. "On it."

He gave Megan a deep bow, then backed off a few steps before hustling toward the dungeon.
