Chapter 451 Outsiders and Natives
Three big bases, one religious group, and a small team. That was the power setup in Starlight City right now.
After getting the email from the Silvercrest District investigation team, each faction sent their reps to meet up.
Steven rolled in with his usual crew—four main fighters and Fluffy. No big threats around the shelter at the moment, so no need to leave anyone behind for defense. If something did go down, the shelter's defenses could hold until they got back.
But the other factions? They couldn't be as chill as Steven. They had to keep a bunch of fighters on guard against zombie hordes and giant rats.
The faction leaders brought some of their squads to meet the investigation team at the SC Central Building.
First to show up were the folks from Emberwick Base. Megan rolled in with her crew, a war vehicle, four Psychic captains, and ten elite warriors. Byron stayed back to guard the main camp.
When Megan got to the SC Central Building, she spotted the unique snow vehicle.
'Just one vehicle? Looks like the district didn't send many people,' she thought, feeling a bit uneasy. She knew how serious the zombie horde threat was. If they didn't send a big army, it would be tough to handle. But how many people could fit in one vehicle?
Despite her disappointment, Megan decided to meet the investigation team first. Maybe this was just the advance team, and more fighters would come later.
As Megan and her team got closer to the SC Central Building, she noticed the 350-foot-long, 50-foot-deep ice and snow tunnel.
Megan squatted down to check it out. The smooth, regular surface wasn't machine-made; it looked like someone had punched it out, and it was super smooth and flat. Clearly, the work of a Psychic.
Being a top-tier Psychic in Starlight City herself, Megan was impressed. She couldn't help but put away her initial disdain. "There's an expert among them," she muttered.
Megan led her team to the SC Central Building. As they got to the entrance, a guy in a black uniform walked out, smirking.
"Which faction are you from?" Lanny's androgynous face had a smug look that instantly annoyed the Emberwick crew.
Megan frowned. "We're from Emberwick Base. I'm the leader, Megan."
Lanny's gaze stayed on Megan. "Former Starlight City Police Special Squad Captain Megan. Welcome!"
Megan's eyebrows furrowed slightly. His words had an underlying message: I know everything about you. Was this a threat?
Lanny stepped aside and said, "Please come in! But only you. The others have to stay outside for now."
Megan didn't argue. She told her crew, "Wait for me outside."
One of the Psychic captains whispered, "Ms. Grayson, could this be a trap?"
Megan's lips curled into a cold smile. "Even if it is a trap, no one can stop me from leaving if I want to!"
Her subordinates looked at her with admiration. To them, Megan's strength was unmatched. Countless challengers had tried to take her down, but none had lasted more than thirty seconds against her.
"Yes, we will wait outside for your orders!" The soldiers from Emberwick Base stepped aside, watching Megan walk into the SC Central Building.
They didn't notice the contemptuous smile on Lanny's face when Megan said those words.
Not long after, the second group to arrive was from Silverlake Base.
Leonard, ever cautious, brought his strongest deputy, Oliver. Recent defeats and zombie horde attacks had made Leonard very wary.
Lanny blocked the entrance again, allowing only Leonard to enter. Oliver was immediately displeased. "What are you hiding? Afraid we'll outnumber you?"
Lanny's face always had that superior expression, which no one could stand. Oliver, a notable figure in Starlight City, naturally wouldn't take his attitude, even if the other party was under the Silvercrest District's banner.
This was Starlight City, after all. Did they think they were high society just because they sent a few people?
Hearing Oliver's words, Lanny's sneer deepened. "We only talk to the leaders of each faction. What, is the leader of Silverlake Base you?"
Oliver's face changed instantly. His leader Leonard was right beside him. At this moment, Leonard suddenly laughed heartily. "Such petty tricks won't work on us!"
His laughter eased the tense atmosphere. "We came with sincerity."
In the icy and snowy environment, Leonard's "Lord of Ice and Snow" ability was very powerful. Offense and defense in one, with almost no weaknesses. So he wasn't worried about anyone targeting him.
Moreover, since Megan from Emberwick Base had gone in, he couldn't show weakness.
Leonard patted Oliver's shoulder. "You all wait for me outside!" He gave Oliver a warning look. "This guy is an expert, don't provoke him."
Oliver stiffened and had to nod. "Yes!"
Leonard walked into the SC Central Building with a calm expression. But in his heart, he remained cautious, secretly observing everything around him.
At this moment, Lanny sighed boredly. He stared at the grim-faced Oliver and sneered. "I originally wanted to spar with your captain! Now that he's not here, do you want to try?"
Oliver's face turned ugly. But remembering Leonard's warning, he didn't dare to act and pretended not to hear, stepping aside. This action drew laughter from the nearby Emberwick Base soldiers.
Shortly after the two factions arrived, Steven and his team showed up. Seeing the vehicles and soldiers from a distance, they knew the people from Emberwick Base and Silverlake Base had already arrived.
"Hope these guys behave," Steven said as he unlocked his handgun. In the previous five-army battle, Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base suffered heavy losses.
Even now, they probably harbored a grudge against Steven. This negotiation had delicate relations among the five factions, and a fight could break out at any moment. Steven was prepared for a confrontation with them.
