Chapter 11 Completion of Safe House Construction

Three days later, Steven, with the help of Alexander, successfully obtained two good guns and 100 rounds of ammunition.

Although the price was a bit high, Steven didn't mind at all.

With these heavy weapons in hand, in the post-apocalyptic world, he felt more confident about his safety.

He also completed a trade with Derek for the necessary medications and managed to get five boxes of high-quality drugs.

Another week passed.

Alexander called Steven and informed him that the safe house had been built according to his specifications and was ready for inspection.

Steven then left the hotel he had been staying at for a while and drove back to Sunshine Community.

Alexander accompanied Steven to inspect the house.

Upon arriving home, Steven couldn't help but be impressed.

IronShield Security Company truly lived up to its reputation as a top-notch security firm.

The speed and quality of the safe house construction were impeccable.

The entire house had been reinforced with 8-inch thick alloy plates as per Steven's request.

From the outside, there was no visible difference compared to before.

Alexander patiently explained everything to Steven.

"The ventilation system is military-grade, capable of filtering out any harmful gases to prevent gas attacks from the outside."

"In addition, the entire house's heating system has been redone using materials from the Arctic Scientific Research Institute."

"Besides building a fireplace as per your request, it can also prevent 99.5% of heat loss."

At this point, Alexander gave Steven a mysterious smile.

"Furthermore, to ensure your safety, we have installed a surveillance system throughout the building. There are a total of 300 cameras that allow you to monitor every floor of the building."

After hearing all this, Steven was amazed and didn't know what to say.

He could only marvel at the extraordinary services money could buy, unimaginable to ordinary people.

He went to the balcony and found it had been transformed into a huge floor-to-ceiling window.

Alexander explained, "The windows are all bulletproof and blast-resistant, even stronger than the 8-inch alloy plates."

"And it provides you ample natural light and necessary outside visibility ."

Steven was very satisfied with the safe house.

Unless there was a military force carrying heavy weapons, no one could forcibly enter his home.

Even if the entire building collapsed, his room would likely remain unscathed.

"I am very pleased with the safe house you have built," Steven said to Alexander with a smile.

Alexander returned the smile.

He handed Steven some documents to sign and said, "If everything is in order, please settle the final payment within three months."

Steven nodded with a smile. "Absolutely, I will."

However, it was impossible for him to pay the final payment.

Thinking that he had only paid a $140,000 deposit and now had a safe house worth nearly a million dollars, he was ecstatic!

Steven lay on the sofa, admiring his perfect safe house.

After some contemplation, he realized he had overlooked a crucial aspect.

That was the source of life!

Slapping his forehead, Steven exclaimed, "Damn, how could I forget water, of all things?"

After the Frosty Apocalypse arrived, although it would be freezing outside, he could obtain water by chiseling ice.

But with temperatures dropping to sixty or seventy degrees below zero, going outside meant facing potential dangers.

Steven couldn't tolerate such a major flaw in his safe house!

After some thought, he directly ordered 100 large water storage barrels through a delivery platform.

Each barrel could store 17 cubic feet of water, enough for him to use for several years.

Coupled with the mineral water he could retrieve from the warehouse, the water supply issue was perfectly resolved.

The deliverer was indeed fast.

A few hours later, the barrels were delivered to Steven's door.

Steven went to the Community entrance and asked Henry, the security guard, to allow the deliverer to pass.

Seeing Steven buying so many strange things again, the neighbors around were all buzzing with discussions.

"Steven really has issues!"

"Yeah, he buys all sorts of weird things every day."

"The other day when his house was being renovated, I saw people carrying at least ten-inch thick steel plates."

"Haha, maybe he's gone crazy, trying to build some safe house like in the movies!"

"I've seen in foreign videos some rich people getting bored and doing that kind of stuff. He's just overthinking it!"

"Now he's bought so many water barrels, does he think Starlight City will run out of water in the future? Haha!"

"Starlight City is by the sea, after all!"

Facing the mocking from the neighbors, Steven couldn't be bothered to explain.

He just sneered inwardly, thinking that on the day of the Frosty Apocalypse, they would realize how foolish they were.

Steven had no interest in explaining to them because these people would only see him as a fool and wouldn't listen to his advice.

They might even accuse Steven of spreading rumors and disturbing public order.

And then they would have him arrested.

The guard, Henry, was chatting with the neighbor, Richard Morris.

Henry kindly approached and asked, "Steven, what are you buying so many water barrels for? If you need any help, just let me know. I'll help you."

Looking at the kind-hearted Henry, Steven couldn't help but feel moved.

Henry, a retired soldier without children, had served as a security guard in the community for over a decade, consistently performing his duties with diligence.

In his previous life, to help a mother and daughter who were about to starve, he donated his last bit of food and ended up starving to death.

He was a rare beacon of humanity in the post-apocalyptic world that Steven had encountered.

So Steven said to Henry, "Mr. Garcia, the weather this year is a bit unusual. I have inside information that this winter will be tough."

"Just in case, you should also stock up on food and drinks. So you won't have to worry about price hikes later."

Henry and Steven had a good relationship.

He knew Steven was a kind and caring young man.

Moreover, older people tend to have a sense of impending danger, so when he heard Steven's words, he furrowed his brow.

"Steven, is this information reliable?" Henry asked.

Steven nodded. "Look, I've prepared so much already. You can stock up on bread and mineral water because these things are always good to have in abundance."

Henry nodded in agreement.

Living alone, he already liked to stock up on bread and sausages for convenience.

Since Steven had reminded him, he would make time to buy more.

Just for peace of mind, those things could be stored, and there was no harm in buying extra.

However, Richard, who had overheard, approached Steven and said, "Steven, please don't go around saying things like this."

"Our society is currently stable and peaceful, why would there be a shortage of supplies? If you say such things, you might be reported for spreading rumors. You might end up in jail!"

Steven rolled his eyes and didn't bother to argue.

He had already given all the necessary warnings, and whether they believed it or not was up to them.
