Chapter 176 Why Is It You?
The basement room was quite large, each with about 500 square feet of space.
Inside, besides a double bed, there was an en-suite bathroom, a desk, and bookshelves filled with books.
Nora had just arrived here and hadn't fully adjusted mentally.
Being kept like a canary by a handsome stranger felt indescribably peculiar.
She felt somewhat at ease but also confused, not knowing how long this life would last.
The heavy metal door of the room suddenly opened.
Nora was startled. She quickly sat up and grabbed her clothes to cover her good figure.
Steven walked in from outside, glanced at her charming figure with a smile, and then said, "Come on! I want to introduce you to a friend."
Nora looked puzzled. "A friend?"
"You'll know when you see her," he said.
Nora instantly understood what he meant. "Is she your girlfriend?"
"You could say that," he replied.
Nora's head was spinning; she didn't expect to encounter such a terrible situation as soon as she arrived at his shelter.
"Hurry up and get dressed to come upstairs." Steven turned and left after speaking.
Nora bit her lip, feeling a mix of emotions.
She, a superstar of The Astralium Kingdom, had to share a man with another woman...
She put her long black-stockinged legs down from the bed and started putting on the black dress Steven had given her.
After she had some thoughts, a determined look flashed in her eyes.
The first meeting between women always required a winner. She had to dress up well!
Steven returned to the first floor and didn't rush Nora.
He understood women.
If they were going out, it was impossible for them not to dawdle for a while.
Sure enough, it took Nora a full twenty minutes to slowly walk up to the first floor from the stairs.
Meanwhile, Elinor, seated beside Steven, remained vigilant, her eyes alert and aware. Even in this moment, she took the opportunity to touch up her makeup, ensuring she presented a composed and prepared front.
Both women were secretly competing in their hearts.
Nora walked into the living room, just about to greet with a smile, when she locked eyes with Elinor.
The air instantly fell silent.
The two women stared at each other, their eyes full of surprise, annoyance, and shame.
"Why is it you?"
"Why is it you?"
They said in unison.
Elinor's eyes carried a few traces of anger and indifference.
Nora's eyes were evasive, not daring to look at Elinor.
Steven didn't expect that the two actually knew each other!
"What is your relationship?" Steven pointed at the two and asked.
Elinor bit her lip and said angrily, "She's my cousin!"
Steven was also a bit stunned.
He didn't expect that the two women he had saved were actually cousins!
"But it seems like your relationship is a bit strained!" He said, somewhat puzzled.
Elinor crossed her arms angrily. "We have some conflicts!"
Steven frowned, sensing something was off.
At this moment, he saw Nora signaling him to come over.
Steven walked over, and Nora pulled him aside, pleading with her eyes. "Steven, please. Can you not let her know about us?"
Steven stroked his chin. "What about us?"
Nora shyly said, "About our deal."
Steven, looking at their completely different reactions, became even more curious.
To fully understand their relationship, Steven pulled them over to have a good talk.
From their attitudes, he could see that Nora was clearly the guilty one.
And Elinor's attitude towards Nora wasn't good, seemingly resentful.
After some questioning, Steven finally understood what was going on.
Nora's mother, whose last name was Kelly, was Elinor's aunt by blood.
The Kelly family and the Yoder family were both well-known scholarly families with numerous talents in the families.
The Kelly family was very prominent in the medical field, with many members being big names in the medical community both domestically and internationally.
The Yoder family had also produced many professors, and Nora's grandfather had even served as the president of the Astralium Kingdom Smart University.
The point of conflict was that Nora chose to enter the entertainment industry.
Both families viewed the prospect of having a celebrity relative as a source of embarrassment and disgrace.
Especially for a girl, entering the entertainment industry, which was regarded as a moral quagmire by the two families, meant her reputation was completely ruined.
Elinor got angry just thinking about it.
She grumbled, "Because of her, many people in the upper circles of Everglow City are laughing at our Kelly Family."
"I've even been made fun of for having such a cousin. Can you imagine how angry that makes me?" she added.
Nora sighed softly. "But I love acting, and I love the feeling of being adored by everyone. Is that wrong?"
Elinor sneered and said sarcastically, "It would be fine if you became famous for your talent. But you became famous for your body, and you know it clearly."
Steven's eyes were fixed on Nora's figure.
He had chosen a low-cut black dress for Nora, which fully accentuated her ample bosom and allowed her slender black-stockinged legs to be clearly displayed.
He nodded, fully agreeing with Elinor's words.
He hadn't appreciated Nora's work much; he was simply attracted to her body.
Nora was at a loss for words under Elinor's criticism.
She knew that coming from such a family, becoming a star based on her body was a disgrace.
So, she felt guilty towards her cousin Elinor.
Especially now, being her cousin's boyfriend's lover made her even more ashamed to face Elinor.
At the critical moment, Steven stepped in to ease the awkwardness. "Let's not bring up the past anymore."
"From now on, there are no scholarly family ladies or stars here. You are just neighbors in adversity." Steven's tone carried an undeniable authority.
Even though Elinor had some grievances against Nora, she had to endure it.
And Nora looked at Elinor with a sense of guilt in her eyes.
Next, Steven assigned tasks to the two women.
The tasks weren't complicated, mainly cleaning the house and managing the garden and farmland outside.
"Don't let those places go to waste. You need to take good care of the garden and farmland. Understand?"
Steven said to the two.
Elinor and Nora were both happy.
Without activities to occupy their time, boredom and restlessness would inevitably set in.
Gardening, nurturing plants, and growing their own vegetables and grains provided a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
