Chapter 66 Showcasing Your Value
Steven stood on the balcony, leaning against the window. If any danger arose, he could quickly retreat into the room.
Andrew and his lackeys were on the adjacent balcony, looking as if they had passed out.
However, Steven couldn't be sure they were truly unconscious.
What if this was a trap they had set up with Elinor to lure him out?
It waspossible that the moment he went over, they'd get up and kill him!
Moreover, there was a six-inch gap between the two balconies.
The stainless steel railing was especially slippery in the snowy weather.
If he tried to climb over, Elinor could easily push him off, sending him plummeting from the 24th floor.
So, Steven pointed his gun at Andrew and his subordinates on the ground.
He ordered, "Tie their hands behind their backs with these ropes!"
"And I remember Andrew has a gun on him. Hand that over to me too." he added.
Elinor looked helpless.
She hadn't eaten in two days and only drank a little water. She had dragged ten people to the balcony and was utterly exhausted.
Seeing how cautious Steven was, not even willing to come over and help, Elinor bit her chapped lips and said angrily, "You're being overly cautious!"
"I won't take even the slightest risk." Steven said calmly.
Under Steven's gunpoint, Elinor had no choice but to comply with his instructions.
She picked up the ropes and tightly bound the hands of those men behind their backs.
When she took the gun from Andrew's pocket, Steven's gun was pointed at her head.
"Remove the magazine from the gun and throw it to me."
Elinor looked at Steven, bit her lip again, and asked, "How can I trust you? What if you kill me after I do all this?"
Steven replied, "You have no other option but to trust me. Only by trusting me do you have a chance to survive in this harsh environment."
Elinor thought for a moment and realized she had no other choice but to trust Steven.
She couldn't break her moral boundaries to resort to cannibalism, which meant she was destined to starve to death.
Following Steven's instructions, Elinor removed the magazine and threw it at Steven's feet.
Steven glanced at it and confirmed it was indeed Andrew's gun. He then said to Elinor, "Go back inside the room."
Elinor cautiously returned to the room.
She was very nervous at this moment.
If Andrew and his men woke up, Steven could retreat to the room, but she would be doomed.
However, as Steven had said, she had no other choice.
After Elinor went back inside, Steven didn't hurry to cross the balcony.
He picked up Andrew's gun from the ground.
He checked the magazine and found three bullets inside.
Steven threw the gun into the extradimensional space, then returned to the room and took a hose from the bathroom.
He then sprayed water at the dozen people on the balcony.
Steven didn't shoot to conserve bullets and to avoid attracting unnecessary attention.
Water gushed out from the hose, spraying over Andrew and his men from a distance of ten feet.
The temperature difference from the indoor 80°F to the outdoor -158°F, more than 200°F difference!
The warm water sprayed out with steam.
But as soon as it landed on them, it started to freeze instantly!
Elinor, watching from inside the room, hugged her arms tightly.
Seeing them freeze to death was indeed a cruel sight.
The icy water woke the group up slowly.
The cold water had soaked them through, freezing them solid.
"Ah!!"
One man's lips turned purple from the cold, and he screamed in terror.
He tried to get up but found his hands tightly bound behind him.
The ground was covered with a thick layer of ice, causing him to slip constantly, unable to get up.
Andrew was also awakened by the cold water splashing on his face.
Andrew looked bewildered, then suddenly realized he had been drugged!
But now, he had no time to figure out who did it.
The cold water continuously pouring over him made him feel like he was in an ice cave. His whole body was freezing and in pain, as if a thousand needles were piercing his every pore!
Everyone woke up, screaming in terror.
They struggled desperately but couldn't get up. With ten people crammed on the balcony, they were in each other's way.
"Steven!!" Andrew saw Steven spraying them with the hose from the adjacent balcony and roared in anger.
Steven finally stepped out of the room, opening a small gap in the otherwise impenetrable window.
Unfortunately, with Andrew's hands tied, his life was about to end.
"You've caused enough trouble. It's time to die." Steven said coldly.
Andrew and his men had killed nearly half the neighbors in the building, almost as many as Steven had killed.
If Steven didn't kill Andrew, it wouldn't be long before Andrew came after him.
Although Steven wasn't afraid, to be safe, it was best to kill Andrew.
Steven valued his life immensely.
And for him, nothing was safer than dead enemies.
Andrew and his men used their last strength to struggle and scream.
But they couldn't get up.
The cold water poured over their faces, into their mouths, and down their collars.
Their clothes became soaked and turned into hard ice.
Two minutes later, they lay on the ground, no longer making any sound, their bodies turning blue and purple, convulsing.
Three minutes later, they couldn't move at all, having turned into ten large ice blocks.
Five minutes later, the ice blocks merged into one large solid mass.
To conserve water, Steven stopped spraying.
Frozen like that, without modern medical intervention, they had no chance of surviving.
Steven returned to the room and locked the floor-to-ceiling window securely.
He then changed out of his thick winter clothes and called Elinor, "You've passed the test. You can come over now."
"You've passed the test. You can come over now."
In the next room, Elinor heard Steven's voice and finally felt relieved.
She said, trembling, "Okay, I'm coming over right now."
She grabbed her medical kit and hurriedly opened the door, escaping from the hellish room.
Steven unlocked the four heavy locks on the security door, then stepped back and raised his gun towards the entrance.
After glancing at the surveillance monitor and confirming that Elinor's condition was fine, he proceeded to use his phone app to unlock the final electronic lock.
"You can come in now!" He said.
Elinor heard the voice from outside and lifted her cold, pale hand to push the door.
The door was heavy, and she struggled to push it open.
But as soon as a small gap appeared, a wave of warmth enveloped her.
linor's eyes sparkled with excitement.
This warm feeling was something she hadn't experienced in a long time!
She put more effort into pushing the door open and stepped inside.
Once inside, she felt as if she had entered paradise!
The cold that had covered her entire body was quickly dissipating.
The intoxicating warmth felt like she was stepping into a hot bath.
Slowly, she even began to feel an unbearable heat.
After all, she was wearing six layers of clothing, including two down jackets.
In Steven's house, with an 80°F room temperature, she couldn't bear the heat.
So, she hurriedly began to take off her clothes, not caring about Steven's gun pointed at her.
