Chapter 220 The Future of Our Country
Steven and his crew hit the hallway, and man, the tension was sky-high over Lily's showdown with that creepy black monster.
Steel needles were scattered all over the floor, glinting with this weird, dark light.
Steven grabbed a couple of them with his cut-resistant gloves and stashed them in his extradimensional space. He figured he'd check them out later when he had a minute.
"Earl, now!" Steven said, giving Earl a quick nod.
Earl stepped up, aimed his hands at Lily and the black monster, and let loose with his supernatural powers.
Suddenly, huge cracks started forming all over the icy corridor.
Lily's eyes went wide, and she quickly backed up a few steps.
Next thing you know, a massive chunk of ice and snow came crashing down, completely blocking the corridor with tons of debris!
The black monster in front of Lily was gone.
Now, there was a mountain of ice and snow between her and the monster, no way to get through!
Lily was shaking with rage, glaring at Steven and Earl. "You two!"
Earl, scared out of his mind, ducked behind Steven.
Steven just grinned and put his hand on the trigger, saying, "No need to thank me. We're all in this together, right?"
Lily was livid!
She pointed her broadsword right at Steven's face.
"Do you have any idea what you've done? I was about to take that monster down!" she yelled. "This was my last shot. If I miss this chance, it won't fall for the same trick again!"
Lily had put everything on the line for this final fight!
She'd burned through all her energy for this do-or-die battle.
If she couldn't kill the monster now, it would pick off her and her students one by one!
She hated Steven's guts!
Steven looked all innocent.
"Really? I was just trying to help, didn't want you to lose to that thing," he said calmly.
He pointed to Cindy in the classroom, adding, "If it weren't for your student worrying about you and asking for my help, I wouldn't have bothered."
Lily gritted her teeth, her eyes burning with the urge to tear Steven apart!
"You jerk!" she shouted, charging at Steven with her sword!
She moved like a whirlwind, just as fast as the black monster!
Seeing her coming at him with murder in her eyes, Steven's smile vanished.
"Such a beautiful woman, but she looks awful when she's mad!" he said, raising his Desert Eagle.
A gunshot echoed, the massive recoil making Steven's shoulder shake.
But the bullet, charged with supernatural power, was insanely strong.
Lily wanted to take Steven down, and no matter her reasons, he had to defend himself!
In a split second, Steven saw something that blew his mind.
The ghostly blade light danced in the air, creating a fan-shaped afterimage. With a cracking sound, bullet holes appeared in the walls on both sides.
She had actually sliced the bullet in half with her bare hands!
Top Japanese samurai could cut a tennis ball traveling at 506 mph.
And Lily, with her supernatural ability, could even slice through bullets!
In an instant, Lily was right in front of Steven with her sword.
Steven's lips curled into a smile.
This was the moment he had been waiting for!
A dimension door opened in front of him.
Lily sensed the danger, but she was moving too fast to dodge.
Then Lily disappeared into the dimension door.
Steven counted to two in his head and quickly reopened the dimension door, letting Lily out. He knew if she stayed in there too long, it could be fatal.
After all, he had messed with her plans, so he felt a bit guilty. Plus, she was Cindy's teacher, and he couldn't just off her in front of Cindy.
Lily stumbled out, completely drained, and collapsed on the ground.
"What was that?" she gasped, eyes wide with fear.
She was already worn out from fighting the monster. Days of barely any food and constant stress had left her too weak to stand.
Steven shrugged. "I tried to help, and you came at me with a sword? You're a real puzzle."
He walked over and grabbed her beautiful broadsword from her hand.
"To keep you from getting any more ideas, I'll hang onto this," Steven said with a grin.
This sword could slice through bullets, so it was definitely a top-tier weapon. No way he was letting it go.
"You... you... give me back my Dragon Roar!" Lily glared at him, looking like she wanted to tear him apart.
Her precious sword, more valuable than her life, was gone, and she nearly fainted from the shock.
"Alright, alright, calm down. It's not good for you. You guys, help your teacher over to rest," Steven said.
A few students finally got the courage to come over and help Lily to the side.
Lily leaned against the wall, utterly spent, barely able to stand.
"Who are you? What do you want?" she asked, glaring at Steven, her voice weak.
Steven looked at Cindy and said, "Her family sent me to get her out of here."
"Get her out of here?" Lily echoed.
Lily and the other students' eyes lit up with hope.
"Can you take us with you? This place is too dangerous. Did you see that monster? It's already killed hundreds of people from our school!"
"Please, take us too!"
"My dad will reward you. Name your price!"
"My dad's the chief!"
"My dad's the governor!"
Steven grew impatient and said coldly, "I'm only here for her. The rest of you need to find your own way out."
The students started to panic.
"We can't reach our families!"
"Please help us! We'll make it worth your while!"
Lily looked at Steven and his crew, realizing they were something special. They had to be either psychics or top-notch fighters; otherwise, they wouldn't have the guts to come to Innovation Academy to rescue Cindy.
She said to Steven, "You seem to be doing well. You probably have a safe place and plenty of food, right? Could you please save these kids? They're the future of our country!"
A group of students looked at Steven with hopeful eyes.
But Steven found their words laughable. "The future of the country?"
He retorted, "So, the kids of high-ranking officials and rich families are the future, but the kids of regular folks aren't? What's so special about you? Is it your arrogance?"
Steven sneered and shook his head, continuing, "If you're so exceptional, you should be able to survive on your own! Sorry, I'm just a regular guy; I can't save you 'elites'."
