Chapter 520 Breakthrough
After more than four hours, Steven and his team finally transported enough seawater from the coast.
He contacted Otha to deliver the news.
"The seawater is ready, but we need to find high ground to pour it down from."
"As for effectiveness, don't get your hopes too high. It will only disrupt the horde's formation and slow their movements."
"But the area around Emberwick Base is flat—completely submerging them is impossible."
"That's enough!" Otha replied. "We just need enough time to break through their lines!"
Their priority was to escape first, then find a way to locate the Zombie Kings and kill them.
Once the Zombie Kings were eliminated, the threat level of the horde would significantly decrease.
According to their intelligence, this was the last zombie horde in Starlight City!
Not counting whoever was manipulating everything from the shadows, once this battle was over, Starlight City would be free from the undead menace—at least temporarily.
Otha's gaze turned cold and resolute.
He had already made up his mind: after surviving this zombie crisis, he would hunt down the mastermind behind it all.
Whoever possessed the ability to control such an enormous horde would either join the Silvercrest District—or be eliminated.
After ending the call, Steven directed Henry to drive toward the high ground near Emberwick Base.
From a distance, they could see the massive horde.
A dark, seething mass that instilled profound dread in anyone who dared look upon it.
Fortunately, they were far enough away, and the horde's attention was fixated on the Emberwick Base shelter.
Otherwise, if the zombies had pursued them now, Steven's group would have faced immense trouble.
Otha contacted Sebastian and the others, telling them to prepare for battle.
Once Steven's team began dumping the seawater, the people in the shelter would counterattack and attempt to break through.
At that moment, the outsiders would need to create chaos to cover the escape of the investigation team and Emberwick Base's core fighters.
Representatives from several factions were already in position nearby.
They were waiting for Otha's command to launch diversionary attacks against the horde.
Though the various factions had few people left, those who had survived this long were the elite of the elite.
Nearly half of them were captain-level Psychics, with the rest being the most skilled warriors.
Steven's vehicle reached a cliff about 2.5 miles from Emberwick Base.
Looking down at the zombie horde from their elevated position, Steven opened two massive Dimension Doors.
In the next instant, two torrents of rushing water poured through, cascading down toward the horde below!
This was seawater collected from the deep ocean with extremely high salt content.
Yet despite this, once the seawater made contact with the frigid air, it immediately began forming ice crystals.
The water flowed down from its great height, instantly transforming into two rivers of ice. The rushing seawater, interspersed with countless white ice flowers, surged across the flatlands surrounding Emberwick Base.
The roar of the water caught the attention of some zombies.
But as they turned to look, they were immediately engulfed by the onrushing deluge!
The horde turned toward Steven's group on the cliff, releasing guttural howls.
They weren't being commanded at this moment—this was Neil's intentional strategy.
Without direction, they reverted to their primal instinct: kill the living.
Upon seeing Steven's group, a massive number of zombies charged toward them.
But this mindless rush posed no threat to Steven and his team.
Steven noticed that the zombies weren't moving with the same calculated precision as before.
They didn't even attempt to avoid the surging water—a futile approach that could yield no positive result.
Soon, large swaths of zombies were swallowed by the seawater.
The impact rippled through their ranks, disrupting the horde's formation like falling dominoes, throwing the rear sections into chaos.
Steven couldn't help but smile.
"Just as I thought!" he laughed. "I Natasha and Neil wouldn't risk mutual destruction! So I'll destroy this trump card of yours!"
The seawater rapidly submerged countless zombies. Tens of thousands collapsed into the water, still desperately struggling to lunge toward Steven.
But against the rushing current, they had lost all mobility.
Watching through satellite imagery, Otha immediately issued his command.
"Begin the attack!"
At the Emberwick Base shelter, the ground suddenly began to tremble.
A series of fissures appeared in the earth, and dozens of artillery pieces of various calibers slowly emerged.
Machine guns began spitting shells, firing into the densest concentrations of the horde!
Heavy artillery roared, their shells exploding amidst the zombies, killing hundreds in an instant!
Meanwhile, Sebastian, Leonard, Neil, and the others responded to Otha's signal, launching attacks from three different directions.
Their primary methods of assault were Supernatural abilities and explosives.
Conventional firearms were useless against these creatures.
In this situation, Leonard's abilities proved immensely valuable!
His [Lord of Ice and Snow] was already a powerful offensive and defensive Ice and Snow Supernatural ability.
But as a veteran sailor, his true expertise was naval combat. His powers manifested most effectively in environments with both ice and seawater!
With Steven having released vast quantities of seawater that transformed into rushing ice rivers across the snowfield, Leonard now had the perfect battleground!
"Glacial Mastery!"
Leonard manipulated the surging ice rivers with both hands, turning the rushing waters into weapons under his control, directing them against the Bronze Elite Zombies in the horde!
If classified by Psychic standards, Bronze Elite Zombies would all fall under the Strengthening System type.
They possessed only enhanced strength, defense, and speed; they were struggling to resist this form of attack
After the icy seawater engulfed them, they began freezing rapidly within the current, unable to maintain their footing on the ground.
The five major factions, fighting in perfect coordination, caught the horde completely off guard!
In just a few minutes, nearly a third of the horde had been decimated!
However, once the zombies discovered their positions, this favorable situation became difficult to maintain.
The ice river attacks could disrupt the zombies' formation but couldn't kill them outright. The numerical disadvantage was simply too great.
If the battle dragged on too long and the seawater ran out, the horde would adjust and counterattack.
