Chapter 362 Using Others to Do the Dirty Work

Megan said to Leonard, "You want revenge, don't you?"

Leonard gave a cold smile and said, "Austin was my trusted lieutenant. Those Snowfall Cult guys dared to kill him, so I'll make them pay tenfold!"

Megan's lips curled up slightly. "Alright then, let's take this opportunity to teach them a good lesson!"

After discussing, they decided to launch an attack on the Snowfall Cult headquarters located in Seldwa District.

Whether the ones who killed their men were actually from Snowfall Cult wasn't the most crucial point at the moment. They would fight first and then ask questions later.

It was a good approach.

So, the two bases decided to gather their forces and launch an attack on Snowfall Cult.

If the Snowfall Cult people knew about this, they would definitely be very frustrated.

They hadn't done anything, yet they were caught in a disaster out of nowhere.

Meanwhile, the real culprit, Steven, was at home building defenses and shelters.

Everyone was working together, and no one was slacking off. Soon, the outer defenses were basically completed.

The main structure was made of huge ice blocks taken from the Mississippi River and steel bars seized from the West Mountain Base warehouse.

The construction conditions were quite rudimentary, relying entirely on manual labor.

However, in the freezing cold, these materials were almost as sturdy as concrete.

The key was that the materials were cheap and could be found everywhere.

Steven didn't expect the first line of defense to hold off the enemy for long; it was just meant to be a buffer zone.

If they encountered a powerful enemy that could break through the first line of defense, there was no need to feel distressed or worried. It was just to buy time for everyone to retreat to the shelter.

After building the initial defense line, Steven began adding various tanks, armored vehicles, and heavy artillery.

Modern weapons could be controlled via computer. Once installed, they were connected to Steven's phone through a wireless network.

This way, if enemies attacked, Steven only needed to press the fire button on his phone to create a spectacular scene of simultaneous cannon fire.

With 70% of the West Mountain Base's weapons deployed, the firepower was terrifying.

In addition to the weapons, many cameras were installed high on the walls to monitor the outside situation at all times.

However, the cameras were only useful for reconnaissance before the battle. Once the fighting started, they could be destroyed very quickly.

After setting up the defenses, the next task was to repair the shelter.

Materials were allocated by Aubrey, and the renovation work was handed over to Henry.

He climbed the scaffolding and picked up tools to work.

Although he wasn't as skilled as professional construction workers and the walls weren't as aesthetically pleasing, Steven only required them to be sturdy and durable.

After three busy days, the entire shelter and defense line were finally completed.

Steven had been wary of an attack from the two bases, but with everything completed smoothly, he felt much more relaxed.

However, this outcome might not necessarily be a good thing.

In a way, if they discovered their Psychic subordinate had been killed and quickly brought people to search and attack the shelter, it would indicate that the leader of that force was a fool.

Fools were easy to deal with.

The real concern was encountering a calm, thoughtful opponent who would prepare a strategy.

"So far, they haven't taken any action, and I haven't even seen any spies. The leaders of Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base are quite formidable," Steven muttered to himself with a serious expression.

But he didn't know that those two forces had already gathered their troops and headed to Seldwa District to fight Snowfall Cult.

They weren't being overly cautious; they just hadn't considered the existence of Steven's force.

While Steven was pondering, others were celebrating the completion of the project.

Working together to complete a project gave them a great sense of accomplishment.

Many of them weren't particularly close, but they had come together because of Steven.

However, through such activities, they became much more familiar with each other.

At this moment, Lily walked over to Steven and said, "Steven, I need to take some food to the students."

Steven snapped out of his thoughts and replied, "Alright."

He took out food for ten people from the extradimensional space, which he had found in the West Mountain Base warehouse. It was food Steven didn't eat himself and specifically kept to give to others.

Lily took a bag of food, smiled, and said, "Thank you," then walked alone toward Cox Town.

Steven watched her back with a curious look in his eyes.

Previously, Steven had been worried that if Lily found out he intended to kill the students, she might break off with him.

So Steven had prepared in advance, letting Cindy and Aubrey play the bad guys.

Recently, he had been playing the good guy in front of Lily. Secretly, he had Cindy and Aubrey brainwash Lily.

This way, if that day ever came, Lily wouldn't have any reason to blame Steven, who had always helped her.

"I'm a genius!" Steven took a deep breath.

Using others to do the dirty work without getting his hands dirty was the perfect crime.

After a while, Lily returned.

From her expression, it was clear she wasn't in a good mood.

Obviously, the students had said something to her again.

But since Lily didn't bring it up, Steven wouldn't ask either. Someone else would handle it for him.

Sure enough, Cindy smartly stepped forward and asked, "Ms. Evans, why do you look upset? Did they say something nasty to you again?"

Lily was already feeling uneasy, and Cindy's question brought her emotions to the surface.

Many people were like this; when something unpleasant happened, they might forget it quickly. But if someone brought it up, their emotions could become more intense.

Lily then recounted what had happened.

It turned out that in recent days, since Lily only brought them food and didn't provide any other help, they had been complaining and had to fish for food themselves.

Lily forced them to be self-reliant, and although the students managed to survive, they didn't thank her. Instead, they kept begging her to take everyone to the shelter.

At first, they pleaded, but when they got desperate, some even cursed her.

Although Lily had helped them a lot, after the apocalypse, these once pampered students had all developed mental issues and forgotten past kindness.

Seeing this, how could Lily not feel sad?

"They're too much. I even think you shouldn't care about them anymore! Just let them die," Cindy held Lily's hand and said in a low voice. "Ms. Evans, you did nothing wrong. It's all their fault. Even if you abandon them, you have no responsibility."

Lily felt a bit better as she asked, "Is that so? No, I can't. After all, I'm their teacher." She sighed softly.

After experiencing so much since the apocalypse and with Aubrey and Cindy's persistent brainwashing, her thoughts had quietly changed.

In her heart, she no longer had much hope for those students. It was only a lingering sense of duty that kept her from letting them die.
