Chapter 209 Innovation Academy
Steven pulled up to the riverside road.
Earl was bundled up tight, hands shoved in his pockets, stomping his feet to keep warm.
When he saw Steven, he waved enthusiastically. "Mr. Rogers, over here!"
Steven walked over, frowning. "Didn't I say 9 AM? Look at the time."
Earl scratched his head and chuckled. "I didn't want to be late and mess up your plans, Mr. Rogers."
Steven sighed, feeling a bit exasperated with this chubby guy.
He reached into the extradimensional space, pulled out the snowmobile, and opened the door. "Get in. It's freezing out here!"
Earl happily took the passenger seat, and Steven cranked up the heater.
Given the outside temperature, using the heater would burn a lot of fuel. But with Earl as a capable assistant, getting more fuel later wouldn't be a problem, so Steven didn't worry about it.
With the heater on, Earl relaxed significantly.
Earl thought to himself, 'Mr. Rogers is so considerate, worried I'd freeze, and even turned on the heater.'
He was genuinely touched.
"Mr. Rogers, where are we headed today?" he asked.
Steven replied calmly, "To a school, to save someone."
"Save someone? Must be someone really important to you, right?" Earl looked serious.
Steven smirked. "Important? Sort of."
Cindy's computer skills were something he needed right now.
Earl, touched for a moment, soon reverted to his chatty nature.
He started babbling in Steven's ear, eager to share every detail of his life from childhood to now.
Steven was quite speechless. Now that they were face-to-face, he couldn't even use smart voice responses to brush Earl off.
He couldn't bring himself to put on earplugs, so he tried to treat Earl's chatter as background noise.
"Julia from our village. I'm not bragging, but she's definitely had a crush on me for a long time!" Earl grinned.
"Every time she looks at me, it's different from how she looks at others. Oh, and she even came over to thank me!
"Girls these days are so shy. If she likes me, she should just say so. Why be embarrassed?"
Steven was getting impatient. If Earl weren't useful for the upcoming task, he would have kicked him out of the car.
"By the way, what's the attitude of the people in your village towards me now?" Steven deliberately asked this question.
Sure enough, Earl's chatter stopped abruptly, and his expression turned awkward.
"Well... Uh..." he stammered.
'Do you even need to ask? You have killed or maimed half the men in their village. Expecting them to be grateful is impossible. If they aren't afraid of Steven's power, they will definitely seek revenge.' Earl thought.
These were words he couldn't say out loud.
But Steven got a moment of peace.
As they waited in the car, a black snowmobile appeared on the road not long after.
"He's here!" Steven said.
Earl curiously looked ahead.
Soon, Henry drove up close.
He greeted. "Steven, long time no see!"
Henry was delighted to see Steven and walked over cheerfully.
Steven's eyes showed admiration when he saw Henry.
Henry's ability was Physical Strengthening, which could enhance his physical strength and increase cell activity.
So, his physical power was exceptionally strong, and his healing ability far surpassed that of ordinary people.
He was exactly what one would expect from a frontline tank in battle.
And after not seeing him for a while, Henry looked even more robust.
Even through thick clothing, his strong build was obvious.
"Long time no see, Henry. You're looking good!" Steven said.
Henry proudly flexed his arm. "Yeah! I feel like I'm ten years younger, like a guy in his thirties, with peak stamina and energy!"
Steven raised an eyebrow and teased, "Mostly your libido, right?"
"All of the above," Henry replied with a grin.
After some small talk, Steven introduced Earl to Henry. "This is Earl Cox, an Ice and Snow Psychic. He can manipulate ice and snow!"
Then he turned to Earl and said, "And this is Henry Garcia, a Physical Strengthening ability user and a respected veteran."
Earl and Henry greeted each other, getting acquainted.
But both of them were puzzled.
All three of them were Psychics?
This was just the early days of the apocalypse, and awakened individuals were extremely rare.
The odds of gathering three at once were slight.
Henry, unable to hide his thoughts, crossed his arms and asked Steven, "Steven, what exactly are we doing that requires the three of us?"
Earl was also curious. He asked, "Three Psychics working together? The opponent must be formidable, right?"
Steven waved his hand. "It's not as complicated as you think! We're just going to a school to save a girl."
"A girl?" Henry said in surprise.
Henry and Earl's eyes lit up.
"Is she a college student or elementary school student?" Earl asked.
Steven glared at Earl, "Tone down your otaku tendencies!"
Earl innocently covered his mouth.
Steven said, "She's my girlfriend's sister. We just found her location, at a school about ten miles from here. I noticed some abnormal condition nearby, possibly mutant creatures. For safety, I called you guys over!"
Henry nodded.
Earl sensed something off from Steven's words. He asked, "Mutant creatures? Not Psychics?"
Steven sneered, "Who said only humans can mutate? If humans can mutate, any cellular organism can."
Henry asked curiously, "Do you know what it is?"
Steven shook his head. "I don't know. Starlight City has a diverse range of species, with so many pet owners, seafood markets with fish and shrimp. Who knows what mutated!"
"Of course, it could be a person. But if it is, they're definitely insane," he added.
Steven recalled that creepy voice, which was definitely not something a normal human vocal cord could produce.
Henry laughed. "No worries, whatever it is, the three of us together can easily defeat it, right?"
Steven nodded, "That's the idea. With the three of us, nothing can threaten our safety."
Henry nodded. "So what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
"Alright, let's move out!" Steven replied.
Steven and Earl got into the snowmobile, while Henry rode the motorcycle Steven had given him.
Steven turned on his phone's smart navigation and set the destination to Innovation Academy.
The nebula satellite system in the sky was operational, so positioning was still possible. And any errors would be minimal.
After setting the location, Steven started the car and headed towards Innovation Academy, with Henry riding the motorcycle alongside.
