Chapter 509 Invitation to A Trap

Steven whipped out his satellite phone and used the pre-set program to guide the mechanical rat deeper into the subway.

Aubrey had crafted this giant rat to be so lifelike and realistic that if you didn't look closely, you'd never guess it was mechanical.

It could even mimic rat sounds and engage in simple communication.

The mechanical rat zipped through the underground tunnels. The subway lines in Amber District were extensive, and it would take a while to scout them all.

Steven wasn't in a rush; he had all the patience in the world for this task.

Everything in the subway was transmitted to the satellite phone from the rat's perspective.

Steven and Fluffy waited for another two hours before they finally found what they were looking for.

Deep in the Amber District subway tunnel, there was a terrifying sea of zombies resting there, blocking multiple railway tunnels, with an estimation of at least 300,000 of them!

The mechanical rat couldn't go any further.

'Starlight City has a death toll close to 20 million, which is perfect for creating zombies. Given enough time, the number of zombie armies will be unimaginable.'

Steven took a deep breath and immediately controlled the mechanical rat to leave the horde, then found a drainage pipe to crawl into.

Finally, the mechanical rat went into standby mode there.

If needed, it could be used again; if not, it would stay put. In any case, it couldn't be discovered by others.

Steven and Fluffy quickly left the underground tunnel.

Back on the surface, Steven felt the cold wind and looked at the vast snowy plains, exhaling a long breath.

"Even though my guess was confirmed, I can't feel happy about it at all!" Steven squinted his eyes and said to himself. "The real challenge is yet to come!"

The investigation team didn't leave Starlight City.

They had killed six Zombie Kings in the battle at the Snowfall Cult camp, turning hundreds of thousands of zombies back into their original mindless state.

To ensure the zombie crisis was completely resolved, they still needed to stay in Starlight City to do some cleanup work.

However, the subsequent work was relatively simple.

They just needed to confirm that there would no longer be large-scale, intelligent zombie armies in Starlight City.

So they began to investigate the subways near several major forces, where zombie hordes were most likely to gather.

But after more than ten days, they found no signs of any remaining Zombie Kings in Starlight City.

Therefore, the seven members of the investigation team somewhat believed that the zombie crisis was over.

In the black snow vehicle.

Lanny leaned against the seat, hands behind his head, lazily said, "Can we go back now? There's no more zombie horde in Starlight City, only some scattered, stupid zombies."

"Leave the remaining problems to the locals. We can go back to Blizzard City and have a good rest!"

Everyone smiled and agreed with Lanny's suggestion.

However, Vice Captain Theron glanced at Otha. Whether to go back or not, it was up to Otha to decide. "Otha, is there any more cleanup work to do?"

Otha adjusted his sunglasses. "Right now, it seems like there's no major issue."

But he had this uneasy feeling gnawing at him. It was this feeling that kept him from leaving in a hurry. Part of it was his experience, and part of it was what Steven had once told him—The mission in Starlight City had gone too smoothly.

Even though many people died, the investigation team members were all intact, and the battle process was thrilling but not dangerous.Just in one battle, and the had killed six Zombie Kings. It was so smooth it felt like a scripted play.

Otha had handled many troublesome events and was sensitive to natural and man-made crises. So the overly smooth mission made him suspicious. But during their stay in Starlight City, they indeed found no suspicious points. They couldn't stay in Starlight City forever.

After receiving their report, the higher-ups also urged them to return quickly. The top brass in Blizzard City were very interested in Natasha and her Frostheart.

Seeing the relaxed smiles on his team members' faces, Otha thought about returning. If anything went wrong, they can still contarc Steven and the others.

So Otha slowly said, "Alright, let's head back to Blizzard City!"

The investigation team cheered. Leandro and Daron high-fived in joy. With the mission completed, they could receive rewards from headquarters and have a good rest!

Theron laughed, "It's a pity that Steven and Natasha aren't coming back with us!"

Eris, standing nearby, smiled, "Theron, are you looking forward to them?"

Theron laughed, "Actually, I think several Psychics in Starlight City are pretty good. But I'm most interested in Steven and Natasha's abilities."

Eris thought for a moment, then smiled and nodded. "Indeed. Trait system abilities reaching LV4 are very rare."

Steven's ability was crucial in any team. And Natasha's ability was of strategic importance. In contrast, abilities like Megan, Sebastian, and Leonard's, which were more combat-oriented, were not scarce in Blizzard City.

Otha thought of Steven and Natasha and said lightly, "We'll discuss them later."

In principle, if Steven wasn't interested in developing in Blizzard City, he wouldn't force him. But if Natasha's ability to mass-produce Psychics was confirmed, it wouldn't be up to her to decide whether to go or not.

Otha made the decision, and the team headed back. Theron drove the car, turning towards the edge of Starlight City.

But just before the car left Starlight City, Otha's satellite phone received a call request from Steven.

Otha frowned slightly. Seeing this, Theron asked, "Otha, is it a call from headquarters?"

"No, it's from Steven," Otha said lightly.

Hearing Steven's name, Lanny immediately frowned, full of impatience. "This guy, calling just before we leave, is he looking for trouble?"

Lanny had always disliked Steven, even showing faint hostility. Steven knew this but found it inexplicable because he had never offended Lanny.

Otha didn't respond to Lanny's comment. After a few rings, he reached out and pressed the answer button.
