Chapter 35 Fake Friends
Steven sighed, "Does this woman think I'm a garbage collector?"
Although Alice was a scheming person and a hypocrite, at least she knew how to act cute and charming, and she knew how to dress up.
Ivy had nothing except being cheap and narcissistic.
But out of mischief, Steven smirked and said, "Is that so?"
"But I just scolded Alice harshly. You two are best friends. What if you and I get together? Will it not affect your relationship with her?"
Ivy's eyes lit up, she sensed an opportunity.
Without hesitation, she said, "We are not best friends, we just live together as roommates."
To gain Steven's trust, she revealed all of Alice's secrets.
"You have no idea how disgusted I am with her!" Ivy said.
"This woman is extremely lazy. These days, she claims to be afraid of the cold and refuses to go to the bathroom. She even pees in mineral water bottles, which grosses me out!"
"Don't be fooled by her innocent act. Actually, she goes to nightclubs every day to look for men."
"If she encounters rich second-generation men, she goes out of her way to please them."
"If she runs out of money, she goes out to work as a prostitute. Otherwise, with a monthly salary of only $690, where does she get the money to buy cosmetics and designer handbags?"
"She only made $207 in one night, which is very meager. I have no respect for such a woman."
It was the first time Steven learned about Alice's side job.
He clenched his teeth, feeling that the world was too absurd.
Fortunately, he was not foolish. Although he had pursued Alice before, he was not as pitiful and obedient as Paul when it came to being a follower.
To continue gaining Steven's trust, Ivy continued to disclose Alice's negative traits. "Don't be fooled by her innocent appearance. In college, she had several abortions."
"She even let a few construction contractors sponsor her for four years." she continued.
Steven silently watched, then recorded their conversation.
Clearly, Ivy had strong opinions about Alice.
After all, Alice was better at acting cute and prettier than Ivy, which made Ivy feel like a mere sidekick in her presence.
In this world, how many women willingly play second fiddle to others?
Why did people think that in college, the best friends of those goddesses were usually unattractive and overweight girls?
After venting her emotions about Alice, Ivy continued to confess her feelings to Steven.
"Steven, do you know how painful it was for me to watch you pursue Alice all these years?"
"Now I finally have the chance to confess to you. Let me be your girlfriend! I will definitely love you well in the future."
"And at this time, you must be lonely at home, right? I'm a woman, I can help you with many things."
Ivy was clearly hinting to Steven that if he allowed her into his home, he could do whatever he wanted with her.
Unfortunately, Steven was not interested in Ivy at all.
He immediately forwarded their chat history to Alice.
Then he said to Ivy, "Although I'm touched, let's forget about this."
Unwilling to give up, Ivy asked, "Why? Don't you need a woman now?"
Suppressing his disgust, Steven replied into his phone, "I do like women. But, you're too ugly!"
After that, Steven muted his phone and tossed it aside.
Upon hearing Steven's words, Ivy changed her expression drastically.
He... he actually called her ugly!
Defamation, this was a serious defamation!
Every time she posted her photoshopped pictures online, countless people praised her as a beauty!
Just as Ivy was getting angry, she heard a furious scream.
"Ivy, you despicable woman!"
Seeing Ivy defaming her, Alice instantly exploded in anger.
The two women started fighting, pulling each other's hair and pinching each other's arms.
They fought until they couldn't anymore, but still glared viciously at each other.
If it weren't for the cold weather and the need to live under the same roof, they would have killed each other.
Ivy understood what had happened and harbored intense hatred towards Steven.
But like Alice, perhaps she was more envious than hateful towards Steven!
As long as Steven agreed to let them into the room to eat something at that moment, they would abandon their dignity and crawl over.
Meanwhile, Steven continued to live a simple and boring life of affluence.
Every night, he would turn on the TV and watch news that he had never watched before.
Although the news still didn't offer much valuable information, at least he could get some updates from the outside world.
"Official announcement from Starlight City: To meet the demand for electricity, power supply will be available from 1 to 2 pm daily."
"High-power appliances cannot be used, only low-power devices such as kettles and phones can be charged."
"Currently, major power plants are not operational, leading to a shortage of electricity. Everyone is urged to reduce electricity usage voluntarily to avoid large-scale and prolonged power outages."
Steven raised an eyebrow upon reading this news.
In the past few days, there had been intermittent power supply for about an hour each day.
Sometimes, it was only for a few minutes.
In such times, the authorities were willing to provide electricity to the general public, even if only for a short moment, which was probably their best effort.
Most power plants worldwide were shut down, and energy was dwindling as the Ice Age approached.
However, what caught Steven's attention was not the content of the news but the tone of the female anchor and the format of the broadcast.
This time, the news was delivered with a serious tone, and the focus was no longer on comforting the public.
This indicated that the authorities had given up hiding the extent of the disaster from the country.
When they were no longer in control, they had to release all information to make everyone aware of the reality and find ways to save themselves.
Sure enough, when Steven opened his phone, he saw that the chat groups were in chaos.
Some were cursing the government for inaction, some were crying in despair, and many were engaged in high-priced transactions for supplies.
The price of bread had risen from $280 a loaf two days ago to $690 a loaf!
Steven still felt speechless with contempt.
The inherent greed of humanity was blatantly evident. Despite knowing that the world was in an apocalypse, money was almost useless in the short term.
Yet, people were still willing to trade food and drinks for money.
Steven remained silent, observing everything like a detached observer.
Life had to go on, even in the face of hopelessness. People didn't want to die, even if it meant living in misery!
So, amidst the arguments and chaos, they would still struggle desperately to survive the next day.
