Chapter 477 The Eerie Presence
After a bit, the investigation team followed Neil deep into the building where the Bloodfeeder Vine was.
What they saw was mind-blowing—The huge space in the middle of the building had been cleared out by the Bloodfeeder Vine, making a massive open area that reached all the way to the top floor.
The trunk of the Bloodfeeder Vine was thick and strong, pulsing like it was alive.
The walls and floor around it were covered with these weird, oval-shaped things—There were thousands of them!
Neil put his right hand on his chest, closed his eyes, and prayed. "May the pioneers become the hope for the survivors."
At that moment, everyone realized where the Snowfall Cult's food came from.
They used the bodies of the dead to feed the Bloodfeeder Vine, then it soaked up the nutrients from the corpses and produced fruit.
Lanny crossed his arms and frowned. "How is this any different from cannibalism?"
Eris replied, "There is a difference. At least it avoids prion infection, and psychologically, it's easier to accept."
Even though everyone was shocked by the giant mutated plant in front of them, they didn't feel physically sick.
Compared to the way stranger things they'd seen, this method of dealing with corpses was actually one of the better ones.
Neil turned around and sincerely said to everyone, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is the biggest secret of our Snowfall Cult. It concerns the lives of thousands of our followers, so please help us keep this secret."
Neil wasn't worried that the people from Silvercrest District would be tempted by the Bloodfeeder Vine.
Who would eat such food unless they had no other choice?
After all, the fruit was made from nutrients absorbed from corpses!
Plus, given the enormous size of the Bloodfeeder Vine, it would be tough to move it anywhere else.
Otha nodded. "Don't worry, we will keep your secret."
With that, he tossed the red fruit in his hand to Lanny and then turned to walk outside.
Lanny looked at the fruit with disgust and then tossed it to Daron.
Daron tossed it to Leandro, and they passed it around like it was a game.
But none of them would eat it, even if they were starving.
Neil's face showed a strange smile as he followed the group out.
He glanced back at the thousands of corpses hanging around the Bloodfeeder Vine, which started to sway slightly, maybe because of the wind or something else.
After leaving the building, Otha noticed that the other factions hadn't arrived yet and suggested meeting the leader of the Snowfall Cult, Natasha.
Neil said, "Ms. Carter doesn't usually handle the cult's affairs; I am responsible for dealing with enemies."
Otha said noncommittally, "Since we're here, we should meet her!"
"I've heard rumors about your Ms. Carter, and even some leaders in Silvercrest District are interested in her abilities."
Neil's pupils contracted slightly. The big shots in Silvercrest District were interested in Natasha's abilities?
This was a very important signal.
Indeed, Natasha's abilities were very strong, able to help others awaken their abilities.
In other words, having her was like having an endless army of Psychics!
But this was also a golden opportunity for the Snowfall Cult. If they could get Silvercrest District's backing, their cult would grow at an insane rate!
Neil turned to Otha. "Hang tight, I'll go inform her."
Otha nodded.
Neil then headed towards the Church of the Holy Ground.
After he left, the group watched him go with mixed feelings.
Maybe it was the shock from the Bloodfeeder Vine, but Lanny frowned and said, "I can't shake the feeling that this Snowfall Cult has a creepy vibe!"
Daron said seriously, "Not surprising. Cults tend to be a bit weird."
Eris chimed in, "But the fact that the Snowfall Cult has survived and kept so many followers alive shows they're strong."
Theron walked up to Otha. "Captain, are the higher-ups really interested in this Natasha?"
Otha raised an eyebrow and said casually, "On our way here, a higher-up mentioned we should check out her abilities."
"If she can really awaken Supernatural abilities without any cost, the leaders will definitely want her."
"That kind of power is super tempting!" Theron ran a hand through his short hair and laughed.
Otha smiled knowingly. "Nothing's ever that simple!"
"What do you mean?" Theron blinked, curious.
Otha said casually, "No pain, no gain."
"Do you remember what was it like when we got our Supernatural abilities? We almost died. It was basically trading our lives for power!"
"Awakening Supernatural abilities without any cost? Is there really such an easy thing in this world?"
Theron's face grew serious. "I doubt it too!"
Otha adjusted his sunglasses.
"The higher-ups have thought about this. The military's been studying Psychics for a long time, and they find Natasha's abilities too good to be true."
"So on this trip, we need to check out her abilities to see if they're as amazing as the rumors say."
Theron asked, "What if it's true?"
Otha, with his hands in his pockets, said thoughtfully, "If that's the case, then her abilities are as valuable as a Level 5 Psychic!"
The other six people were stunned!
Level 5 for Psychics was almost an unreachable peak!
In the whole Astralium Kingdom, there was only one known Level 5 Psychic, the mysterious figure in Everglow City District, whose powers were beyond imagination.
There had never been a Level 5 Psychic in Silvercrest District.
Otha had once been groomed with the hope he could reach Level 5. However, due to his inherent limitations, the hope shattered.
Since then, Level 5 had become a dream for every Psychic in Silvercrest District.
And now Otha was saying there might be a Level 5 Psychic in Starlight City?
Otha saw their reactions and smiled faintly. "I only said it's a possibility. We have to see it clearly before we reach any conclusion."
Theron nodded. "So you want to meet her in person to get the full picture, right?"
"Exactly." Otha confirmed. His words had already sparked the investigation team's intense curiosity about Natasha.
