Chapter 344 Patient Guidance
Aubrey poured Lily a cup of hot coffee. Lily thanked her and held the coffee, feeling warmth in both her stomach and heart.
Lily sincerely said, "When Steven comes back, please help me talk to him about this matter."
Aubrey cheerfully replied, "Of course! Don't worry, Ms. Evans. With your amazing skills, Steven won't refuse to let you join us!"
After spending many days together, Aubrey understood Steven's way of doing things.
He always treated talented people generously, and she and Cindy were the best examples.
Back then, she was just an extra, but after working for Steven, he treated her like his own sister.
Cindy felt a bit helpless listening to Aubrey's straightforward remarks.
Aubrey was a bit naive, but she was not. At least from the bottom of her heart, Cindy felt closer to Steven and appreciated his survival rules in the apocalypse more.
Cindy smiled at Aubrey and said, "Stop talking nonsense here! If you make promises now and Steven has other thoughts when he comes back, won't that disappoint Ms. Evans?"
Aubrey's smile froze awkwardly on her face. She scratched her cheek and said, a bit embarrassed, "You might have a point there."
Cindy turned to Lily with a concerned look and said, "Ms. Evans, Steven is indeed a very good person, but he is very principled. He has very strict requirements for every member who joins the shelter."
She added, "If you want to join us, you must be mentally prepared. At the very least, you have to accept one thing, and that is to obey his orders!"
Cindy was smart. Unlike Aubrey, who gave Lily hope first, she chose to apply pressure to Lily. By lowering Lily's expectations, it would be easier for Steven to talk to her later.
Sure enough, the smile on Lily's face faded slightly. She gripped her coffee cup a bit tighter and asked, "What kind of demands does he usually have?"
Lily instinctively squeezed her legs together, bit her lip, and looked a bit shy.
Although she didn't know Steven well, she wasn't blind. She could observe the relationships between Steven, Elinor, and Nora.
In this house, besides him, the other four were all women. So, after she came to the shelter, wouldn't she have to... She was too embarrassed to think further!
Cindy secretly rolled her eyes and then smiled, "That's not the case. Since Aubrey and I came here, Steven has never behaved inappropriately toward us. He is a very decent man!"
"Decent"—Lily's mouth twitched. Hearing others describe Steven this way left her speechless.
Cindy winked at Lily and said, "In short, you don't have to worry about that. Steven is not a pervert; otherwise, how could he have survived in the apocalypse until now? What he needs is your strength. So if I'm not mistaken, the condition for you to join the shelter is to obey his orders during battles!"
Cindy made an accurate judgment.
In fact, Steven's requirements for those around him were all about "value."
As for daily life, Steven didn't impose many restrictions on them.
Lily nodded, feeling both nervous and expectant as she waited for Steven to return.
A few hours later, the sound of an engine came from outside.
Aubrey and Cindy looked out the window and said with a smile, "Steven is back!"
Lily instinctively clenched her fists, her mood becoming anxious.
Cindy wheeled herself toward the door.
Steven and his group got out of the car and walked toward the shelter, as they still had to discuss building a defense line.
Steven opened the door and saw Cindy smiling at the entrance. "Cindy?" he asked.
It was the first time Steven saw Cindy come to greet him. Usually, Cindy didn't like to move much and spent most of her time indoors studying the materials obtained from West Mountain Base.
So Cindy coming out to greet him today made Steven immediately realize that something might have happened.
Steven walked over with a smile and asked, "What's up? Do you have something to tell me?"
Cindy nodded and then looked toward the living room, quietly saying to Steven, "Ms. Evans is here. She wants to join us."
Steven's heart skipped a beat.
Lily was a powerful Psychic, and he had coveted her abilities for a long time.
But previously, because she was with a bunch of useless students, Steven hadn't directly invited her to join the shelter.
Now that she came on her own, could it be that she had figured things out?
"What's the situation?" Steven asked with a smile.
Cindy gave a smug smile, looking like a little devil, and whispered, "Your tactic of cutting off food supplies and my persuasion worked. Ms. Evans had a falling out with those students, so she came over in a fit of anger."
Previously, Steven had used this trick in the Hermes District, and it still worked on Lily's students.
Steven would take out a portion of the food each time, which not only kept Lily from resenting him but also left those students hungry.
One or two days were fine, but over time, they would inevitably have conflicts over food.
Lily was a dedicated teacher, but she wasn't a saint. How could she always tolerate those unruly students?
So her coming here today was something Steven anticipated sooner or later.
Steven's smile deepened. "I see."
"Steven, I've already set the stage for you. When you talk to her, you can make some slightly excessive demands." Cindy winked at him. "And I'll help you persuade her."
Steven chuckled and nodded, reaching out to pinch Cindy's cute, cold cheek. "You really are my capable assistant!" he said.
Lily's vulnerabilities were her students. The softer a person was, the easier they were to persuade.
With Cindy and Aubrey working together, Lily would be easily convinced.
So Steven stood up and said to Earl and Henry beside him, "Lily is here. I'll go talk to her. You guys wait for me next door for a bit."
Earl gave Steven a thumbs up, showing a lewd smile, seemingly implying something.
Henry also smiled ambiguously and went next door with Earl.
Steven then composed his expression, pretending to be nonchalant, and pushed Cindy into the living room.
He met Lily's gaze, and from her eyes, he could see a trace of nervousness.
Steven smiled faintly, "Ms. Evans, you're here!"
