Chapter 491 Hold the Line

The battle on the outskirts of Snowfall Cult was heating up fast.

Though the zombies were supposed to be command by the smart Zombie Kings, with over 200,000 zombies surrounding the Snowfall Cult camp, their attack was quite simple—endless charging from every direction!

The humans were throwing everything they had at them to keep them at bay.

Artillery, traps, supernatural powers, hand-to-hand combat—everything was on the table.

They knew retreat wasn't an option; their formation was hollow in the middle, and they were completely surrounded with no way out.

They had to fight to the death, holding out until Otha and the others completed their mission to take out the Zombie Kings!

The battlefield was a mess of flying flesh and blood!

Zombies were getting blown to pieces, but even with only half their bodies left, they kept crawling forward, roaring.

Human soldiers, with their advanced weapons, could take out hundreds of zombies each.

But if they weren't careful, they could get overwhelmed by the sheer number of zombies.

Even if the zombies couldn't bite through their protective suits, the sheer weight could crush them to death.

And let's not forget the giant rats that could break through their defenses.

Steven, perched on a high building, had taken out almost all the Bronze Elite Zombies.

His sniping skills were a game-changer on the battlefield, shouldering at least 20% of the allied forces' pressure!

If those powerful Bronze Elite Zombies joined the fight, the human defenses would crumble fast!

Twenty minutes flew by.

The allied forces fought while retreating.

With each retreat, they set up a bunch of traps behind them, loaded with incendiaries and explosives, ready to wipe out a wave of zombies.

The defensive circle was shrinking, and casualties hit 30%!

Megan gritted her teeth and contacted Otha. "We're barely holding on here! How are things on your end?"

Otha replied coldly, "We're about to find the Zombie Kings. Hang in there a bit longer, we'll have results soon!"

With this news, the allied forces clung to a sliver of hope and kept fighting desperately.

But Otha, after ending the conversation, was still outside, not having gone underground yet.

He was waiting for more zombies to show up.

With such a big battle, Otha was sure the Zombie Kings wouldn't want to lose.

So, as long as Steven and the others held out long enough, the Zombie Kings would definitely send more zombies to support.

It was a test of endurance.

The battle at the front line was already brutal!

Lily, Henry, and Earl, as the special ops team, were providing support everywhere.

Lily's Dragon Roar, made of Edelmann Alloy, would have dulled long ago from chopping zombies!

She was like a human storm, tearing through the zombie horde, her blade dancing wildly, slicing dozens of zombies with each swing!

Henry's defense was strong, but against a horde of zombies, he mainly relied on two massive Gatling guns to mow them down.

The only good news was that Steven and his team had plenty of ammo.

At this time, Earl's role was particularly significant.

His "Blowing Snow" was a versatile supernatural ability, especially strong in crowd control.

Although not as stealthily powerful as Leonard's "Lord of Ice and Snow," when it came to crowd control, Leonard couldn't compare.

With his ability alone, Earl could cover a 2-mile radius with ice and snow, slowing the zombies down big time.

This gave everyone else a golden opportunity to take them out.

Steven's team, though small, was all over the battlefield, making a bigger impact than any other group!

Another half an hour flew by.

Every minute felt like an eternity, pushing everyone to the brink of despair.

But with no way to retreat, they fought like cornered animals, battling the zombie horde to the death!

In this chaotic fight, the zombie horde's advance started to slow down.

Even though their momentum was still strong, as the allied forces' circle shrank, it got tougher for the zombies to break through.

But now, the ordinary church members were starting to take hits.

No matter how tight the defensive circle, some zombies slipped through, and no one had the bandwidth to worry about the ordinary members' lives now.

Even though Snowfall Cult had prepped in advance, moving them to high buildings and deep subway tunnels, these zombies and giant rats had a nose for living people.

A few zombies that breached the defenses found their way into the hiding spots of the Snowfall Cult members.

There were no heavy hitters here, just three or four zombies could wipe out an entire floor of church members!

Screams echoed as they scrambled to the windows, begging the armed forces outside for help.

Megan and the others, barely holding their own, turned a deaf ear to their pleas.

Neil and the others could only mutter, "Return to the kingdom of God!" and then ignore them.

Right now, they were struggling to fend off the zombies at the front.

If they split their forces to deal with the few zombies at the back, the whole defense would collapse.

Steven saw the dozen or so zombies that had slipped in.

He frowned, hesitated, then turned his gun and picked them off one by one.

He didn't care much about the lives of the Snowfall Cult members, but he couldn't let a big disturbance break out at the rear.

If the ordinary members started running around in fear, it could mess up the frontline troops.

However, the number of zombies breaching the defenses was growing.

"It's been forty minutes already, how are things on your end?"

Megan and Sebastian were getting anxious.

They were told to hold on for half an hour, but the zombie attacks were still relentless.

"The zombies underground are numerous too. Hold on for ten more minutes, we'll have them cleared soon!"

Otha's cold voice made Megan and the others a bit angry.

But they had no choice but to believe him.

As the battle circle continued to shrink, the areas where the ordinary members were hiding had to be abandoned.

Zombies were drawn to living people, super sensitive to their scent. With a bunch of church members gathered, most of the zombies were attracted there, which took a lot of pressure off the combat troops.

In fact, from the start, these people were part of Otha's plan as bait.

To complete the mission of wiping out the zombie horde, everything was on the table.

Screams echoed throughout Snowfall Cult.

Without the protection of the combat troops, the ordinary members were no match for the surging zombie and rat hordes. In no time, they became zombie and rat chow.

Just as Steven breathed a sigh of relief, thinking they could hold out a bit longer, Fluffy beside him suddenly perked up its ears, baring its sharp fangs!
