Chapter 48 Waiting to Die Without Medication
Alice, Grace, Larry, and others fled back like dogs with their tails between their legs.
Returning to the house and closing the door, everyone was covered in cold sweat, panting heavily.
Especially the wounded, gritting their teeth in pain, lying on the sofa.
Steven's arrows hit Larry, Paul, and Zachary.
After all, they were the main attackers at the time, closest to Steven's house door.
Alice and Ivy had witnessed Steven's devices before and intentionally stood back, avoiding getting hit by arrows.
As a result, out of the seven people who went there, four men either died or were hit by tetanus-laden arrows.
Due to the cold weather, they didn't feel much pain at first.
But after returning home, they endured extreme cold, gritting their teeth and undoing their clothes.
When they saw the wounds, their faces changed color!
If it were just regular arrows, they could be pulled out, disinfected with alcohol, and some antibiotics could be taken, which would do the trick.
But these arrows were rusty!
Without antibiotics, if they got infected, they would have to wait to die in these harsh conditions; it would be a very miserable death!
"No, no! How could this happen!!"
Larry's pupils constricted, understanding the implications, fear of death enveloping him instantly.
A crisp sound rang out as Grace angrily slapped Alice.
The injured were all her close friends and family.
And all this was caused by Alice instigating them to rob Steven's house.
Could she not be angry?
"It's all your fault, you scoundrels!"
"You said his house only had a sturdy door, why are there arrows? Did you already know, that's why you ran so far away! Why are you two unharmed?" Grace, taller than Alice and Ivy, lashed out.
This slap immediately frightened Alice.
Alice covered her face, tears of grievance streaming down.
"I don't know! Last time we went there, he didn't attack us with crossbows either."
Paul, with an arrow in his arm, seeing his beloved woman being slapped by Grace, hurriedly struggled over, shielding Alice. "Grace, don't. I can testify, Alice really didn't know, I can assure you!"
Seeing her foolish Paul, Grace was also very angry with him.
Pointing at Alice and Ivy, she said, "Then why are they unharmed? I saw clearly that they stayed far away!"
Ivy, displeased, whispered, "You weren't injured either, were you? How dare you blame us!"
Grace, infuriated, cursed, "That was just luck, not getting shot. Now all of us are suffering because of you, get out!"
Larry, however, stopped Grace, signaling her with his eyes.
"We are all injured now, someone has to take care of us." He said quietly.
He didn't want to die, so he had to pull the arrow out now, pray not to get infected, and survive.
Grace's chest heaved violently, glaring at Alice and Ivy.
"Why aren't you coming to help?!"
Alice and Ivy lowered their heads, a hint of resentment flashing in their eyes.
But they still went to help the wounded.
After undoing the clothes and seeing the power of the arrows, their faces immediately turned pale.
Steven's crossbow arrows were professional equipment. They could be used for hunting wild boars and coyotes. The arrows went in deep once, penetrating human flesh.
Crace and the others didn't have professional medical staff or equipment. However, they had no way to handle this.
If they made a mistake, they would bleed to death.
Grace thought for a moment and said, "We can only ask Dr. Kelly for help!"
The Dr. Kelly she mentioned was Elinor.
She had saved Jack's life when his liver was ruptured from a kick.
Grace went aside and called Elinor.
Soon, Elinor arrived.
Grace went over, excitedly holding Elinor's hand.
"Dr. Kelly, our lives depend on you!"
Elinor, in a knee-length black down jacket, tightly wrapped herself, but her tall and slender figure was still evident.
She carried an iron medical kit on her shoulder.
After entering the house, Elinor frowned upon seeing the injuries of the three men.
"More arrow injuries?" Elinor uttered.
Grace blinked curiously, "More? Who else got shot with arrows?"
A strange expression briefly crossed Elinor's face.
"No, it was my former hospital patients," she answered calmly.
Grace felt it was odd but didn't dwell on it now.
"Dr. Kelly, please quickly check on them!"
Elinor didn't waste time and went to inspect the injuries of the people.
By now, their faces were deathly pale.
With the arrows unable to be removed, their wounds couldn't be stopped from bleeding. In the -160 degrees Fahrenheit temperature, this was extremely deadly.
Elinor took a look and frowned, "Their injuries are too severe! Without proper equipment, I'm not entirely confident in performing surgery."
Grace hurriedly said, "Dr. Kelly, at this point, please proceed! We trust you."
Elinor shook her head.
"The arrows are rusty, that would cause infection."
"I can remove the arrows, but without antibiotics, they will get infected. I'm afraid that..."
She didn't finish her sentence, but everyone understood what it meant.
In these conditions, once infected, it would be certain death!
Tears welled up in Grace's eyes; Larry and the others were her closest friends, and Paul was her cousin.
In the post-apocalyptic world, there was already a lack of security.
Losing so many loved ones and friends in one day would definitely make Grace collapse!
"That Steven is so ruthless! He must have done it on purpose, how could he be so cruel?"
"Even if we took over his house, we wouldn't want to take his life!"
Grace cursed in sorrow.
"Steven?"
Hearing this name, Elinor also remembered.
She had met Steven a few times, remembering him as a handsome and sunny man.
But due to Elinor's reserved nature, she hadn't interacted with him much.
"In any case, without medication, just removing the arrows poses a great risk to your lives. I hope you understand." Elinor said calmly.
At this point, she no longer hid anything. In the post-apocalyptic world, everyone should be prepared to die at any moment.
Suddenly, Alice seemed to remember something.
Excitedly, she said, "Medicine? I remember Steven has some in his house!"
