Chapter 473 The Bait Plan
Neil tried to comfort Chase for a bit, and once he saw Chase had calmed down a little, he took off.
He knew Chase wasn't going to forget about Delbert's situation anytime soon.
But as long as Chase's family stayed in the Snowfall Cult, they had to let it slide.
Being the High Priest, Neil had already done a lot by coming over to console them personally.
But to Chase, Neil's words were just a load of crap.
"Bullshit! Castrating people for the stability of the Snowfall Cult? What's the point of the Snowfall Cult existing then? If humans can't reproduce, won't we go extinct anyway?"
Chase muttered curses at Neil under his breath.
But he still had to look after his family and the other folks he brought from the Hermes District.
So, even though Chase was boiling inside, he had to suck it up.
By now, he realized the Snowfall Cult was far from the paradise he thought it was.
As a former senior manager of a publicly traded company, he was no dummy. He always felt like the Snowfall Cult was hiding something.
As he started to get in on some of the cult's core secrets, this feeling just got stronger.
For the first time, he started to wonder if bringing his neighbors from the Hermes District to the Snowfall Cult was a good idea.
However, if they had stayed in the Sunshine Community, they would have all become zombie chow in the next wave of attacks.
Dragging his feet to his front door, Chase heard Dione crying and Delbert's painful screams.
Chase's eyes filled with sorrow.
As a dad, Chase couldn't stand seeing Delbert suffer like this for the rest of his life.
He had a thousand things to say, but in the end, all he could do was let out a helpless sigh.
What happened to Chase's family was just a small blip to the Snowfall Cult.
It was a snapshot of the Snowfall Cult, which looked all peaceful on the surface but was actually full of discontent.
But because the followers craved protection, they had to put up with even the worst situations.
Meanwhile, the investigation team, after taking down a Zombie King, had come up with a battle plan.
They were going to lure the entire zombie horde in Starlight City to one spot and then take out the Zombie King among them!
Even if they couldn't wipe them all out at once, they could repeat this and kill a bunch of those smart white-haired freaks.
Otha thought the zombie horde acted like an insect swarm.
The Zombie King could create new zombies, and its infection rate was way higher than regular zombies.
Plus, the Zombie King was smart and could evolve through fighting. But as the brain, it wasn't much of a fighter.
So, the solution to the zombie horde was clear:
First, use a big crowd to draw in the main force of the zombies.
Then, send an elite team underground to take out the Zombie King.
With the plan set, the next step was to put it into action. To start with, they needed to pick a good spot as bait.
Otha held a communicator that showed the positions of the five major factions in Starlight City and the movements of the zombie horde.
Then, he pointed to the Snowfall Cult's territory. "Let's go with this place!"
There were two reasons for picking the Snowfall Cult as the battlefield.
First, the Snowfall Cult had the most followers, making it the easiest to attract zombies.
Second, the Snowfall Cult was smack dab in the Seldwa District, which used to be the most bustling part of Starlight City.
So, there were tons of dead people and zombies hanging around there.
The underground zombie horde in Starlight City was also most likely to gather there.
Otha quickly sent out messages to the five factions.
The message was short and sweet: It demanded  them to secure their non-combat personnel right away, then bring all their combat forces to the Church of the Holy Ground in the Snowfall Cult for assembly!
The five factions had mixed reactions when they got the investigation team's orders.
Megan was now the biggest winner. The investigation team had helped them clear out a bunch of zombies around them, especially after taking down the Zombie King, making it a breeze to handle the scattered zombies around Emberwick Base.
Megan figured the investigation team must have done something big, and it was probably killing the Zombie King that was controlling the zombie horde.
She had come to respect the strength of the investigation team, so she replied without a second thought, [Got it, we're on our way.]
Even though she didn't get why they had to gather at the Church of the Holy Ground, whether it was out of trust in the investigation team's strength or considering the bigger picture, they had to follow the orders.
Frostwood Base and Silverlake Base had similar reactions.
They secured their non-combat personnel in underground shelters.
These shelters, buried more than 300 feet underground and made of reinforced concrete, were tough to destroy even with a ton of missiles.
As long as the doors stayed shut, the zombies and giant rats couldn't get in.
Sebastian and Leonard, with most of their combat forces, headed to the Snowfall Cult's headquarters as Otha ordered.
But not everyone was thrilled about this.
Neil's face went through a bunch of changes after getting the message, looking particularly worried.
He rushed to find Natasha to report the news.
"The investigation team wants everyone to gather here. Looks like they want a war with those zombies! This is bad news for us."
If this place became the main battlefield, who knew how many followers of the Snowfall Cult would bite the dust.
Otha was someone who looked at the big picture. He only cared about getting the job done and didn't think about the lives of a few individuals.
This mindset wasn't wrong; if the zombie problem wasn't fixed, everyone in Starlight City would eventually die. The zombie horde might even spread to surrounding areas and across the country.
But as the ones being sacrificed, the Snowfall Cult naturally didn't want things to go down this way.
Natasha frowned when she heard this. "Many people will die again. And their gathering here is also a threat to us."
The five factions didn't exactly get along.
Especially Emberwick Base and Silverlake Base, who had been betrayed by the Snowfall Cult and would love to see all the Snowfall Cult's leaders dead!
They might secretly do things to hurt the Snowfall Cult.
Neil asked worriedly, "Should we hurry and relocate? It would be terrible if they found out."
Natasha was quiet for a bit before slowly nodding. "Let's do as you say!"
"But we don't need to worry too much." She clasped her hands together in a devout prayer. "The gods will protect the followers of the Snowfall Cult!"
It seemed that this was all they could do now.
After all, Otha's plans never asked for their opinions.
These were orders, and they had no choice but to follow them.
