Chapter 74 A Nocturnal Raid on Steven’s House.

Henry took Cara and the kid back home.

After closing the door, he said with a displeased look, "Why did you say that just now? How could you ask someone else to look after our kids?"

"Things are so chaotic outside, you never know if someone is a person or a demon. The fact that he could give the kids medicine shows he's a trustworthy, good person."

"Don't be so greedy."

Cara sat on the bed, holding the baby. While feeding her medicine, she unbuttoned her blouse and used her milk to help her swallow the medicine.

She didn't argue with Henry but said weakly, "I'm doing it all for the kids, you know? The only motivation I have to live now is Mia. If she dies, I won't live either."

As she spoke, tears fell from her eyes again.

Henry turned to see her pale, soft chest, and his heart softened a bit.

His tone softened. "It's not that I don't understand what you're doing. But at least you should know to be grateful."

Thinking about how Steven had helped him twice, Henry slapped his thigh and said emotionally, "If it weren't for Steven, I wouldn't have thought to stock up on supplies early and wouldn't be alive now!"

"I must find a way to repay his great kindness!"

At this moment, he heard Cara's voice. "Actually, I don't think you need to be so grateful to Steven. At the very least, he's still wary of you, right?"

Henry was taken aback and said excitedly, "How can you say that?"

Cara looked weak, "Think about it, if he really trusted you, he should have opened the door and let us in to sit when we went over there."

"The medicine was thrown out the window, and he didn't even show his face. Isn't that still being cautious of you?" she added.

Henry was very unhappy. "Don't talk nonsense! You're twisting his good intentions!"

Cara remained calm and continued in a soft voice, "I'm not talking nonsense. I think he did help you, but he didn't suffer much loss."

"Maybe he's just giving you a little favor on purpose, hoping you'll be his muscle someday."

"If he were really a good person, he wouldn't have used those ruthless means to kill dozens of neighbors!"

"Unless he's willing to let us live in his house, I won't believe he's truly a good person. Besides, his house is big, adding the three of us wouldn't be too much. What's the harm..."

Before Cara could continue, a loud shout interrupted her.

"Enough!" Henry's face turned red with anger as he glared at her, scaring Cara.

The baby in her arms also started crying loudly.

Cara quickly hugged the baby and said weakly, "I'm sorry, it was my fault. I said those things for your own good. It's always better to be a little more cautious at times like this!"

Henry said coldly, "Don't ever say things like that again! I can tell right from wrong."

"If I doubt my benefactor, then I'm not a person with a conscience."

Henry was honest and straightforward, but honesty and straightforwardness are not the same as being foolish.

That was right, even if Steven helped him with an agenda, so what?

In this world, there was no such thing as kindness without reason.

Having lived for over forty years and worked as a security guard for over a decade, he had seen all kinds of human nature. How could he not understand this principle?

Cara knew Henry was angry, so she obediently chose to keep quiet.

But that didn't mean she gave up on persuading Henry.

Steven's warm house was something she dreamed of!

Cara looked down at the baby, who was only eight months old, and made a silent determination in her heart. 'Mia, to ensure we both survive, I don't care what price I have to pay!'

Night fell.

The white moonlight cast a silver sheen on the ground, bringing a sense of desolation and loneliness.

It had been snowing heavily for almost a month, sometimes more, sometimes less, but never stopping for a single day.

The snow in Sunshine Community had piled up to the fourth floor, covering the ground in a blanket of white.

Out of habit, most people were asleep at this time.

But the entrance door on the first floor of Building 25 was completely blocked by tons of snow, making it airtight.

Suddenly, the snow at the entrance seemed to loosen, and some ice chips fell to the ground.

But soon, a large chunk of snow bulged out and was forcefully pushed aside.

A shovel appeared from the broken hole.

Soon after, the hole was dug larger, and a dozen people wearing heavy clothes and carrying shovels, steel rods, and axes crawled out.

The leader was short and thin, with deeply sunken cheeks.

However, he had a pair of sharp, intimidating eyes.

After entering the hallway, he whispered, "Let's go, upstairs!"

The group carefully held their weapons and quickly climbed the stairs.

Their formation was very orderly, with someone in front holding wooden boards and frying pans as shields.

When they reached the tenth floor, they encountered a resident sneaking down to fetch snow at night.

A burly man swung a shovel at his head.

Blood splattered against the wall, and the resident fell to the ground without even a chance to scream.

The burly man looked at the body on the ground and asked the thin leader, "Mr. White, what should we do?"

Gregory White said, "Leave him here for now. We'll take him back after we finish our business!"

The group obediently continued climbing the stairs.

Today, their target was Room 2401 in Building 25.

At this time, Steven was sleeping, and Elinor was locked in the adjacent bedroom by him.

The intruders silently reached the 24th floor, and despite climbing so high, they didn't seem to be exhausted.

Clearly, they were not ordinary people and were likely from a special profession.

The group arrived at Steven's door.

But no one rushed to break down the door.

Gregory signaled the group to stop and called out softly, "Quentin, come here!"

From the back of the group, a middle-aged man wearing a gray knit hat walked forward.

He was carrying a gray backpack.

"Get the door open!" Gregory pointed to Steven's door.

Quentin Clark nodded. "Don't worry!"

He approached Steven's door, put down his backpack, and quickly took out various tools.

The most noticeable were detonators and several rectangular objects wrapped in yellow tape.

After tinkering for a while, everyone quickly hid in the hallway.

An earth-shattering explosion echoed through the entire building!

Everyone was jolted awake from their sleep.

Steven was no exception.

Since the explosion happened right at his door, his ears were still ringing, and his eardrums hurt badly.
