Chapter 286 Just You Wait

Charles had always been on guard against everyone in Cox Town, even Earl. But he never saw it coming that there'd be a traitor in the special forces.

When Lily joined West Mountain Base, her background was thoroughly checked. She had no known ties to Steven, except for a brief encounter at Innovation Academy that wasn't even documented online.

This slip-up led to his carefully laid plans being exposed in just a day.

As soon as Lily got back to her room, she shot a message to Steven.

Lily: [The special forces are planning to dig a tunnel and blow up your shelter from below. They've got all the villagers from Cox Town working on it, and the construction site is far enough from the shelter to be hard to detect. But if you keep an eye out, you'll spot some clues.]

Steven was a bit taken aback when he got Lily's message.

'Blow up from underground?'

Honestly, he had thought of that method himself. But the progress would be slow, and given how sturdy underground structures are, they'd need a ton of explosives.

So, it was something to watch out for, but not an immediate concern. After all, it could be easily stopped—just blow up the tunnel.

If they were using old-school construction methods, a detector could easily pick up underground movements if he was prepared.

Steven replied to Lily, "Got it. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye on it!"

Charles's main strategy was a surprise attack, but once the info got out, the plan would not only fail but also be super embarrassing for them.

Lily suddenly asked, "So, what's your next move?"

Steven chuckled. "If they want to waste their time, let them."

It was freezing outside, the coldest winter of the year. Starting construction now would definitely lead to casualties.

Even the well-trained soldiers of West Mountain Base couldn't handle it, let alone the villagers of Cox Town.

If they wanted to work themselves to death, he wouldn't mind!

Steven had a sneaky idea. He'd let them dig halfway, and when they got within 1000 feet of the shelter, he'd blow up the tunnel!

The looks on the faces of the special forces and the villagers of Cox Town would be priceless!

Steven was lost in his amusing plan.

But Lily, worried, said, "No! They're making the villagers of Cox Town dig the tunnel. If there are casualties, it'll be those innocent villagers who die. Steven, you need to act fast to avoid unnecessary deaths."

Steven scoffed at Lily's words.

He knew Lily was kind-hearted, but she didn't understand his grudge with Cox Town.

Not to mention their previous attack on the shelter. Just the fact that they later chose to help the soldiers of West Mountain Base put them against him.

Of course, Steven wanted those people to die!

Watching them being forced to work and then tragically die in the tunnel was exactly what Steven wanted.

Steven lazily said to Lily, "Ms. Evans, you're right. But if I blow up their tunnel too soon, wouldn't that expose you?"

He continued, "You mentioned that everyone in Cox Town had their communication devices taken away. Only you and the special forces at West Mountain Base can contact the outside world. So if things go south, they'll suspect you first. I can't risk your life for those villagers!"

Steven crossed his arms, a mocking smile on his face. "How about this: go talk to your captain and convince him to drop the plan. Or fight him and make him agree with you. At least if you fail, he won't kill you. It's better than being outed as a traitor, right?"

Steven's words left Lily speechless.

She had only thought about saving those innocent villagers but forgot that if she got exposed, she'd be in immediate danger!

If she were alone, she could just leave. With her skills, surviving in the post-apocalyptic world was still doable.

But if she did that, the students left at West Mountain Base would be doomed!

She knew exactly how West Mountain Base treated traitors.

"Do I really have to just watch them die?" Lily's tone was filled with reluctance.

Steven, however, calmly replied, "The ones sending them to their deaths are the people from West Mountain Base, not you. You don't need to feel guilty."

Steven's reassurance eased Lily's guilt a bit. Naturally, she couldn't sacrifice herself and her students for the villagers of Cox Town.

"Let's just hope the casualties won't be too severe," Lily sighed helplessly.

Steven originally wanted to ask about Earl's situation. But on second thought, he decided not to contact Earl for now.

With Lily as an undercover agent, he could still keep track of the soldiers' movements at West Mountain Base.

"By the way, let me ask you something. Which house are you staying in at Cox Town?" Steven changed the subject.

Lily was a bit puzzled and instinctively looked into the distance.

From this direction, it was impossible to see the Emerald Estate 101 villa thousands of feet away.

"Why are you asking this? Are you planning to come find me?" Lily asked.

"Who knows! But if I get the chance, I might need you to do something for me," Steven smiled mysteriously. "It's crucial for you and your students to escape."

Using Earl's luxurious castle as a reference, Lily told him where she was staying.

"Great, I got it," Steven said.

Lily couldn't help but ask, "What exactly are you planning to do?"

Steven replied mysteriously, "You'll find out when the time comes. Don't worry, I wouldn't risk my life to come over just to take advantage of you."

Lily rolled her eyes.

'At a time like this, he still has the mood to joke?'

"If you have the guts to come over, I wouldn't mind sleeping with you once!" she said provocatively.

"Alright, wait and see!" Steven replied without hesitation.

He never turned down such offers.
