Chapter 443 The Ocean

When Aubrey gave Steven the thumbs up, his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.

"That'd be awesome if we can pull it off. We're not in a huge rush, time-wise."

Even though Steven had seen the zombie horde's horror firsthand, he wasn't planning to wipe them out in one go.

As long as they could get the job done before the horde grew too big and threatened the shelter, that'd be enough.

Aubrey grinned and said, "In that case, it's easier. Actually, there's a pretty simple way to freeze seawater quickly—just precipitate the seawater and get rid of the salt."

"You only need some basic chemical materials for that. But to speed things up, I'll whip up a bunch of coagulant for you."

"Luckily, we found a ton of unused stuff at the chemical factory before, and it'll come in handy now."

For Aubrey, this was no big deal.

Freezing water wasn't rocket science; it was just a basic physical phenomenon.

Steven slapped his thigh in excitement.

"Alright, let's get ready right away. No more waiting. We'll head out this afternoon and gather seawater together!"

Time waits for no one, and the sooner they tackled these issues, the more at ease Steven and his crew would feel.

Elinor chimed in, "You guys just got back. Why not take a good rest? You all look pretty beat."

Steven shook his head. "We're good. As long as we chow down on some of Nora's Supernatural ability food, we'll get our strength and powers back."

"Time's ticking! This has been hanging over us for too long, and I can't even enjoy my meals."

That's just how Steven rolled.

He couldn't let anything weigh on his mind, always carrying a deep sense of worry.

This trait made him like to be super prepared for everything he did, even over-prepared, to the point where he could finally chill out.

Elinor knew Steven well, so she didn't push him further.

She just said, "Then go and come back quick."

Steven stood up, looked at everyone who hadn't fully rested, and said, "Let's hit the beach!"

Going to the beach shouldn't be too risky.

So no one objected.

Everyone got up from the sofa, geared up, and then quickly drove the snowmobile towards the Gulf of Mexico.

The Gulf of Mexico used to be a hot tourist spot.

But now, the world had entered an ice age, and should be covered in ice too.

Steven hadn't been there in ages.

But he'd heard that Silverlake Base could navigate the deep sea, fish, and even travel to other places.

He was curious and kinda excited to see the beach.

As they set off, Earl asked, still a bit scared, "We won't run into folks from Silverlake Base, will we? We had a nasty fight with them before. If they find us, we might have to throw down again."

Steven laughed and said, "Silverlake Base is probably too busy dealing with zombies to mess with us."

"They wouldn't have time for us even if they wanted to. And if they do, they should be the ones scared."

Earl nodded, thinking Steven made a lot of sense.

When fighting for territory, the hatred between people was clear.

But now, with non-human creatures threatening everyone's safety, human conflicts would start to ease.

There might even be chances to team up in the future.

Steven filled up the snowmobile with gas, started the engine, and drove towards the long-missed edge of the Gulf of Mexico.

Everyone felt a bit pumped because they hadn't seen the sea in forever.

What would the vast ocean look like now?

In the depths of the sea, would there be some crazy creatures that had mutated into terrifying monsters?

The mysterious and vast ocean inspired a deep sense of awe.

However, Steven and his crew were only heading to the frozen edge of the nearshore, so there shouldn't be any scary monsters.

Given the current situation, even if there were mutated monsters in the ocean, they'd only be in the deep sea—they couldn't find enough food near the shore.

The group drove towards the edge of the Gulf of Mexico.

After driving for a long time, they finally reached the coast.

The car stopped where the beach used to be, and everyone got out, staring at the vast expanse of white ice in front of them, lost in thought. The grand and magnificent scene left them all in awe.

If it weren't for the apocalypse, they would've snapped some great photos and marveled at nature's wonders.

The vast ocean stretched out before them, completely frozen over.

The edge of the nearshore looked like a natural mirror, smooth and pristine.

"So beautiful, is this the marvel of nature?" Lily couldn't help but exclaim.

Steven snapped everyone back to reality, "Now's not the time to marvel; we need to drive over and see where we can get some water."

Everyone piled back into the car and drove towards the coastline's edge.

On the vast ocean of ice, their small car looked like a tiny ant.

Facing the grandeur of nature, you can't help but feel small.

The snowmobile kept moving forward, and they lost track of time.

The nearshore area was mostly frozen, and they might have to get close to the deep sea to find unfrozen water.

This kind of journey felt lonely.

Steven wasn't a poet, but at this moment, he wished he could recite some beautiful poetry.

But he lamented his lack of education.

They drove for over two hours, which meant they had traveled over 200 miles.

Only a high-end snowmobile could manage this.

If it were one of those modified junk cars from Emberwick Base, it would've broken down long ago.

Finally, on the horizon, they saw a splash of waves.

"Steven, water! I see water!" Earl shouted excitedly, pointing ahead.

By now, they were far from Starlight City.

The longer they drove, the more anxious they felt.

Seeing the water, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"Quick, let's get the water and leave!" Steven urged everyone.

In such a vast place, his sense of awe deepened.

He was also a bit afraid that something unexpected might happen.

Even though he was now one of the top Psychics in Starlight City, if something went wrong in the ocean, it would be hard to escape.

They drove the car near the ice edge.

Finally, ahead, they saw the deep blue sea.

Waves gently lapped at the edge of the water and ice, and they could still see water droplets freezing and the ice layer expanding.

Even in the current extreme cold, freezing the deep sea was unlikely.

The constant movement of ocean currents and underwater volcanic activity kept the water temperature from reaching the freezing point of seawater.

Steven took a deep breath and carefully walked to the water's edge.

Then he opened his extradimensional space. He had cleared a large part of his space specifically to store this seawater.

"Double Dimension Door!"

Two large Dimension Doors appeared above the seawater, starting to pump large amounts of seawater into the extradimensional space like a water pump.

After all, they needed a massive amount of seawater.

Steven stood at the ocean's edge, continuously drawing seawater.

The process was a bit tedious and boring, so Steven sat at the water's edge with the others, watching the sea.

They hadn't seen such living water in a long time, so it felt a bit novel.

Henry rubbed his hands together and said regretfully, "I should have brought a fishing rod. Fishing here would be wonderful!"

Henry wasn't the only one feeling this way.

Even Steven wanted to fish here and enjoy the natural scenery.

As they say, all the ordinary things from before now seemed incredibly precious.

Steven laughed, "That gives me an idea."

"How about we set up a fish pond at home and stock it with some sea fish? What do you think?"

While collecting seawater, some sea fish had indeed been drawn in. These fish could be kept in the pond.

Not for eating, but for fishing and entertainment.

Henry and Earl both cheered. No man can resist the joy of fishing.

Even in extreme cold, the deep-sea fish were living well.

After all, the low temperatures only affected the ocean's surface, not the deep water.

Steven continued collecting seawater for a long time until he had almost enough.

To be safe, he had left a part of his extradimensional space specifically for this, measuring 25 miles long and 33 feet wide and high.

Only after filling this part of the extradimensional space did Steven stop the collection process.
