Chapter 254 The Secret

Molly's words hit Lily like a ton of bricks.

"I... I never ditched any of you!" Lily felt a pang of hurt.

If she hadn't busted her butt to protect these kids, how many of them would make it here?

"If you didn't leave us, why'd you bail and leave us in that hellhole?" Molly shot back.

She locked eyes with Lily and pressed on. "If we hadn't used our bodies to get a shot at escaping, we might've 'disappeared' like the others!"

"Disappeared? What are you talking about?" Lily felt a shiver run down her spine under Molly's glare.

Sure, Lily had left the students and headed to the second Life Warehouse.

But she didn't think she'd done anything wrong.

Society's all about people doing what they're good at.

Those students weren't Psychics and didn't have any standout skills. Staying in the Fourth Life Warehouse to generate electricity seemed like the best option.

What did she do wrong?

Molly sneered, ready to say more, but Sophia, standing next to her, quickly covered her mouth.

"Enough, don't say any more! We don't need more trouble," Sophia warned her.

Molly shot her an angry look, pushed her hand away, gave Lily a cold stare, and stormed off to her room.

Sophia looked at Molly helplessly.

She turned to Lily and said apologetically, "Ms. Evans, don't mind her. She just... went through some rough stuff."

Lily took a deep breath, struggling to stay calm.

'Could there be things about the Fourth Life Warehouse I don't know?' she wondered.

"Sophia, tell me, what happened to you all in the Fourth Life Warehouse?" Lily asked.

Sophia looked conflicted.

She bit her lip and reluctantly said, "Ms. Evans, after you left, a lot of students disappeared."

"Disappeared? How did that happen?" Lily asked.

"We don't know why. They were taken away and never came back."

Sophia apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Evans. I don't know much else. If you really want to find out, you should investigate it yourself."

"Or you could just let it go and not ask anymore," she suggested.

With that, Sophia quickly turned and left, clearly not wanting to get involved.

Lily's mind went blank. The students she had fought so hard to protect had mysteriously vanished at West Mountain Base?

"Could it be a misunderstanding? Maybe they were sent to work somewhere else, and no one knows?"

Cold sweat trickled down Lily's forehead.

She knew that explanation didn't hold water.

The third Life Warehouse was guarded by regular soldiers stationed at West Mountain Base.

The second Life Warehouse had fewer people, all top talents in various fields, including Psychics like her.

Those missing students couldn't have gone to the third Life Warehouse. Even if they had the skills to join the second Life Warehouse, Lily would've seen them at least once.

So, there had to be a big secret behind those students disappearing.

Lily felt a deep unease.

If she didn't solve this mystery, she wouldn't be able to sleep. After all, she was their teacher!

Lily had taken the students out of Innovation Academy, so their safety was on her.

She took a deep breath. Instead of heading back to her room to rest, she made her way to the Fourth Life Warehouse.

West Mountain Base had four Life Warehouses, each with its own strict hierarchy.

Moving from a higher-level Life Warehouse to a lower one was fine, but the other way around? No way.

Now, as a captain in the Tiger Special Forces, Lily had no trouble getting through.

When she got to the Fourth Life Warehouse, people were still working night shifts to keep the base powered 24/7.

Lily went straight to the students' dorm and woke up a few of them.

As soon as they saw her, they hugged her and started crying.

"Ms. Evans, you're finally back! Are you here to take us away?"

"This place is draining me. I'm exhausted!"

"Ms. Evans, some of our classmates were taken away and never came back. Are they dead? What's really going on here?"

Their cries woke up the other students.

Lily hadn't planned on disturbing everyone, but now that they knew she was back, they swarmed her like she was their savior.

Everyone was crying and begging her to get them out of there.

Lily did her best to comfort them. Then she asked about the missing classmates.

The students exchanged looks when she brought it up.

Some were scared, some indifferent, and some even seemed envious.

Some said the missing were used as food.

Others said they were taken by their families to live the good life.

There were all kinds of theories, both hopeful and grim.

Lily's head was spinning from all the chatter. Clearly, these kids didn't know the real story either.

But one thing was clear—every so often, someone would come and take one or two students away.

And none of them ever came back.

"Ms. Evans, I'm so scared! What if I'm next?" A girl clung to Lily's sleeve, tears streaming down her face.

But a boy next to her shrugged and said, "What are you scared of? We have nothing now, why would they hurt us? Those who disappeared probably went to work somewhere else. Don't overthink it!"

Lily was suspicious too.

She needed to talk to someone from a higher-level Life Warehouse to get answers.

'Tomorrow I'll find Lisa and ask her where the students have gone!' Lily thought firmly.

As a teacher, she couldn't let anything happen to her students!

After comforting the kids, Lily left the dorm.

The hallway was pitch black.

To save electricity, the power was cut off at night.

As she passed a corner, a low, familiar voice came from the shadows.

"Ms. Evans, do you want to know where those students went?"

Lily quickly turned to look. 'Is that Warren?' she wondered.

The voice belonged to the class president, Warren.

As the class president, Warren had more contact with the teachers, so Lily recognized him right away.

Warren slowly walked up to Lily, cautiously looking around, then lowered his voice and said, "Ms. Evans, come with me."
