Chapter 244 Not a Single One of them

Brittany's body hit the snow with a thud.

It all went down so fast.

Just a moment ago, she and Zane were chatting about future promotions.

Now, she was a lifeless corpse.

In this dangerous world, safety was never a sure thing.

A psychic's head wasn't any tougher than anyone else's. And it definitely couldn't take a 0.2-inch sniper bullet boosted by some supernatural power.

Zane watched in horror as his old partner Brittany died right in front of him. Stunned, it felt like time had stopped, and every second dragged on forever.

The next moment, he instinctively pulled out his gun and aimed behind him.

Under the night sky, a huge shadow loomed in the distance.

On Fluffy's back, Steven held a Magnum Sniper Rifle, nailing Brittany from 6,500 feet away.

From Zane's view, Steven and Fluffy were tiny, and his gun didn't have that kind of range.

In the split second Zane hesitated, Steven had already reloaded and fired again!

With the silencer on, Steven's shots were much quieter.

From that distance, the only way to figure out Steven's position was by tracking the bullet's path.

Steven thought this shot would take down the big guy.

But in his scope, Zane's figure suddenly blurred, leaving afterimages in the air!

With this ghost-like speed, Zane barely dodged Steven's bullet!

"Damn it, how many psychics are there?!" Steven felt a chill run down his spine.

Even though he had guessed this might happen, facing two psychics at once still freaked him out.

No matter who they were, Steven had to ensure they wouldn't leave this place alive, not a single one of them.

He couldn't let them take any info about him back!

But in that moment, Zane had already grabbed Brittany's body and hid in a snow pit.

Looking at Brittany's cold body, Zane felt like his heart was being ripped apart.

They had worked together for so long, and he had developed feelings for Brittany.

But because of their roles, he never dared to confess.

Seeing his beloved Brittany die so horribly in front of him, he was filled with grief.

"Damn bastard, I'm gonna kill you!" Zane's eyes were bloodshot.

But his soldier's discipline kept him from losing it.

He figured the enemy was a super-skilled sniper, able to hit Brittany's head from such a long distance.

Even Zane couldn't do that when he was in the military.

He guessed this had to be some kind of supernatural ability.

In long-range combat, he had no advantage and would just be a sitting duck.

What about close combat?

Zane couldn't cover the 6,500 feet to get close to the enemy.

And running away was the worst idea.

With the enemy being a sharpshooter, as soon as he showed his head, he'd be at risk of getting sniped.

He muttered to himself, "Hold on, I need to think this through. He's the one who should be sweating bullets, not me! If I'm right, he's the owner of that villa, Steven."

"After spotting us, he's desperate to kill us to keep his secrets safe. So, my best move is to hold out here and call for reinforcements!" he decided.

It'd take about two and a half hours to get here from West Mountain Base by snowmobile, and around four and a half hours by sled.

Zane pulled out his gear and sent a distress signal to West Mountain Base.

Just like Zane figured, Steven was itching to take him down.

But after missing that first shot, Zane had gone into hiding, not giving Steven another chance to snipe him.

And from what Steven saw of Zane's skills, he was another warrior with strong close combat abilities.

If it came to hand-to-hand combat, Steven wasn't sure he could win.

He thought, 'If this drags on, the guy might send out my info or even call for backup. What should I do? Call Earl to come over? Nah, he doesn't have transportation. By the time he gets here, it'll be daylight.'

Steven glanced at Fluffy beneath him. An idea popped into his head.

"Fluffy, you go flush him out, and I'll cover you from a distance!"

Steven jumped off Fluffy, crouched in the snow, and spoke to Fluffy.

Fluffy got the message and let out a grumpy meow.

It seemed to say, "I'll be in danger too!"

Steven reassured, "It's okay, your defense is solid. He can't hurt you. Just expose his position, and I promise I'll take him down with one shot!"

"Be good, and I'll reward you with a hundred fish sticks when we get back!" he added.

Fluffy licked its big paw and then nodded in agreement.

With a strong territorial instinct, Fluffy already hated the two strangers who had invaded its turf.

So it quickly agreed with Steven, and with the promised reward, it bolted towards Zane's hiding spot.

At first, it charged through the snow, but soon, its body rolled in the snow, turning into a huge black spiked ball!

Its hard black fur stood up like steel needles, rolling towards Zane's position with great momentum!

Zane had planned to use the terrain to engage in a prolonged battle with Steven and wait for reinforcements.

But suddenly, a huge rumbling sound reached his ears.

He carefully took out his phone to use as a mirror to check.

What he saw made his pupils contract in fear. "What the hell is that?!"

He saw a massive black ball rolling towards him; it was something beyond his imagination.

At this critical moment, Zane lowered his body and quickly moved to the side.

Fluffy rolled over the spot where he had just been, leaving a path over ten feet deep.

Zane had just breathed a sigh of relief when he suddenly saw the huge black ball stop.

Then the black ball transformed into a giant black monster not far from him!

Fluffy roared, its fur standing up like steel needles, and charged at Zane in an S-shaped route!

Zane hurriedly raised his gun and started shooting.

However, ordinary bullets did little damage to Fluffy. The bullets sparked off its steel-like fur.

Fluffy, though hurt, wasn't seriously injured and charged at him with even more ferocity.

Zane made ghost-like movements again, dodging rapidly in the snow.

It was truly bizarre that a human's speed could match that of a feline!

But while he could dodge Fluffy's attacks, he couldn't hide his position.

From a distance, Steven had been waiting with his sniper rifle!

As soon as Zane showed himself, Steven pulled the trigger!
